When the greatest shooters in the

world get together, it’s the pros from

GLOCK who come out on top...

Every three years, the finest practicalshooters from around the world

participate in a frenzied ritual to determinethe very best of the best. The InternationalPractical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) isthe granddaddy of all practical shooting organizations, and its once-every-three-yearWorld Shoot is the ultimate braggingrights for anyone who’s pulled thetrigger in practical competition.

In September 2002, under a bigSouth African sky, GLOCK pistols—especially the venerable and provenG17, proved conclusively that theyruled not only police and personalprotection worldwide, but the fieldsof competition as well, comingaway with not one, but threeIPSC World Championships. GLOCKace David Sevigny won the World

Championship in the ProductionGun division; veteran competitorand GLOCK’s own Sharon Zaffiro

returned to her winning waysto capture the Women’s WorldChampionship in the Standard GunDivision, and Debbie Keehart-

Ross, another veteran returning toworld-class competition, capturedthe Women’s World Championshipin the Production Gun division.

For David Sevigny, the WorldChampionship is, thus far, thecrowning jewel in a brief careerthat has rocked the world ofcompetition shooting. Heading intohis fourth year of serious competitiveshooting, the 29-year-old Sevigny hasestablished himself as the sport’snewest superstar. And he did it all

with a largely stock GLOCK G17 9x19 (withHeinie sights) from a concealable kydexholster from Ky-Tac Holsters. Unlike many ofthe top competitors who change gunsand holsters depending on the sport andthe division, Sevigny uses the same gunand holster combination whether he’stactically running an IDPA course or winningthe IPSC World Championship.

Sevigny began shooting at the age of20, when he purchased his first gun forself-defense.

On June 1, 2002 my family and I traveled to Fulton,NY for the GSSF Empire State Regional Classic IX.

This was our first shooting match and we were unsureabout what to expect. We were delightfully surprisedwith our experience. All of the people we encounteredwere friendly and knowledgeable. Pictured is ourdaughter, 6 months old, at her first GLOCK match. Thefirst of many, we are hoping!

Prior to purchasing our GLOCKs we did extensiveresearch on the various handguns available. We notonly wanted a dependable handgun, we wanted a safeone as well. In addition to purchasing our GLOCKs, wealso purchased a safe in which to store them as wehave 4 children in the house. It was our goal to takegreat care in teaching our children about gun safety. We both work together in teaching them the properways in which to handle firearms. It is our firm beliefthat it is a parent’s responsibility to educate their children as well as keep their weapons locked awayout of harm’s way.

In the back of our minds is always the threat that wemight someday lose our right to bear arms. We hope tonever see that day so that we may continue to enjoyour GLOCKs for many generations.

Our choice of firearm is GLOCK because it is notonly the most reliable gun on the market, but it is thesafest!

I Changed My MindIam a former Navy Seal. Through my experience in the

Navy and when abroad for my studies in the States, Ihad the chance to use several kinds of handguns.

I used to be a great fan of Smith & Wesson and I supported my choice very firmly. However, when I handledmy first GLOCK I changed my opinion completely.

Now at 34 years of age, I have won a G17, a G19, anda G30. I want you to know that GLOCK is the bestchoice I have ever made. I will never regret it! “Betterlate than never!” They are my babies. Believe it or not,I spend more time with them than with my girlfriend.

New GLOCK RecruitIpurchased my very first GLOCK about five months

ago and am proud to have become a GSSF member. Iam a US Marine in North Carolina, and my commandingofficer believes in teaching his Marines to be proficientwith a pistol. And, of all the Marines he has introduced toIPSC and the art of pistol shooting, I am proud that so far I am the only Marine to never experience a jam or malfunction. My G23 is a fine weapon, and after readingyour article in The GLOCK Report, “The GLOCK ThatRose Again,” it is reassuring that the G23 will be there forme in any conditions and environments I am in. Thankyou for making such a fine weapon—I cannot wait formy first GSSF match.

Starting EarlyS hooting the GSSF matches has surely become a

family affair. My husband began shooting them in1996; I started when we began dating in 1999 and wecompete twice a year as a married couple at the Dallasand San Antonio matches here in Texas. But recentlywe’ve been bringing a new Junior Shooter with us topass on our commitment to the shooting sports. Thusfar, she’s attended 3 GSSF matches.

This may not seem too remarkable or that unusual, since we certainly see many couples and families enjoying the matches. But what is unique about our circumstances is that our new Junior Shooter is only 7months old! She began attending the matches while Iwas still pregnant with her (though I didn’t shoot that tournament, upon doctor’s recommendation only), andshe’s been going with us ever since. Her second matchwas the wet and cold San Antonio December 2001 matchand her most recent was the 2002 Dallas match. We planto take her to the inaugural Schreveport match this year.

We’re certainly excited to introduce her to the shootingsports, and look forward to her winning the JuniorFemale category once she’s old enough to understandand master all of the safety elements. Good shooting!

A True ChampionY ou are the highlight of my shooting life. A couple

of years ago I won a GLOCK at a PPC match onVancouver Island, after shooting the Duty Pistol eventwith a borrowed G22 that a kind member of the RCMPloaned to me—the first time I had fired one of yourfine pistols.

You could say that I was impressed. I talked withyour wonderful and accommodating Customer ServiceDepartment who allowed me to exchange the prize

model for the model that I really wanted with very little trouble. I’m now the proud owner of a G21 in .45caliber. I love it and shoot it at every opportunity.

This past weekend in Spokane, Washington the Can-Am Police/Fire Games were held. Since I am aCanadian Customs officer, I entered the competitionand had a terrific weekend of shooting and talking toother officers who are armed by GLOCK. In six events,I won one bronze, two silver and two gold medals. Yes!I was a happy shooter—two of those events—DutyPistol and Distinguished Semi-Auto earned one silverand one gold respectively. That G21 is one heck of afine gun. Since I’ve owned it, I’ve not had one misfire, failure to feed or eject. It eats everything that I feed itand puts them right where I point it. As a matter of fact,I have a sneaky feeling that my G21 is a whole lot moreaccurate than I am.

Your product is a great one. It feels good in my hand;points naturally; chambers and fires everything I putinto it and is accurate as all get-out. Thanks, GLOCKfolks—a silver and a gold medal are now hanging onmy wall because of your fine product.

This Says It AllT hey say a picture is worth a thousand words, so

instead of telling you my opinion of GLOCKs, I’llshow you a picture of what became of my two Sigs,Browning HiPower, Kahr, and Mauser M2.

I don’t understand why every army in the world isn’tequipped with GLOCKs.

They may not be pretty—neither is the Jeep orHumvee—but, they take a licking and keep on ticking,as that old commercial said.

I’ve never won anything, but please enter me in yournext drawing for another GLOCK pistol.

Winning with GLOCKEnclosed please find a photo of my teammates and

me after the annual Michigan Upper Peninsula Law Enforcement Shoot. It was held on Thursday, June 20, 2002. This shoot is the championship for lawenforcement officers in the U.P. every year, and attractsofficers from across the U.P. ranging from small policedepartments to large ones such as the Michigan StatePolice, Department of Natural Resources, and ourMichigan Department of Corrections. Our team—MDOC-Alger Maximum Security Correctional Facility, took the team honors this year. We converted from theS&W Model 15 .38 Special to the G22 .40 early last year. This particular competition requires that you use yourduty weapon. We were able to take this competition withour “out of the box” 8lb trigger G22s. We also postedrespectable scores to do so. The team consisted of twoof my fellow officers (scores were 262 and 274), and me(251). Our team total was 787, and we beat our nearestcompetitor by 19 points. All shooting is done at 20 yards

on a reduced B-27 target. I would also like to note thatone of our biggest opponents, the State Police, and theMDNR, who employ great shooters, did not place in thetop three with their new Sig Arms .40. I would also likeyou to know that my fellow officer who had a score of274 had the second highest overall score. Also, it bearsmention that we all backed up our team competitionwith good scores in the Open class.

Although these scores were not with GLOCK pistols(because you could use any gun), there is no reason tobelieve that the same scores could not be achievedwith the GLOCK. In the Open I took honors with a 284-9X. One of my fellow officers backed me up in second place with a 283-5X, and the other finished in5th place overall with a 279. All in all, it was a good day, and it was very rewarding to place so well against the best law enforcement shooters across theUpper Peninsula. I wanted you to know how admirablythe GLOCK performed. I also wanted you to know thatwe have so much confidence in the GLOCK guns that we also carry them personally for protection, notjust for work.

We are now beginning to prepare for the StateChampionships, commonly referred to as the “Governor’sCup.” This is for all law enforcement personnel statewide. It is a different format—bullseye all at 25 yards. There is astrong marketing atmosphere at the competition as Smithand Wesson awards several guns to winners, and there aremany dealers there selling guns and accessories. Shootingthe G22 is not really feasible at this championship competition because there are no “duty” requirements, somost shooters use either their 1911s or Model 52 Smith for bullseye. As I said previously, we all personally ownGLOCKs. Together we own two G22s, two G23s, and oneG27. We have the utmost confidence in the guns.

Like GLOCKworkMost of my military career I carried the 1911 45

caliber as my sidearm. The 45 has and alwayswill be my favorite handgun. My first impression of theGLOCK was that it looked like a toy gun. Still not trustinga gun without a side safety or hammer, I bought manyhandguns and fired many different ones.

One day a friend and I went to a range to shoot withhis G22 and my Sig. After the first volley we traded gunsjust to see the difference in shooting. To my amazementhis was much lighter and fit my hand quite well.

Like a Swiss watch, the GLOCK is a well-made, easy tohandle, easy to clean handgun. I recently purchased a G21which I am well pleased with, so much so that I would recommend a GLOCK to anyone for an all-purpose handgun.

Greetings from the NetherlandsI n the Netherlands, it is not as easy to get a firearm

permit as in the USA. So if you get a permit youwant to have a gun that is one of the best that is avail-able. After some testing I found GLOCK is very goodfor me. The more I shoot the gun, the more I like it.Now I have won a G17 and a G21.

In the GLOCK Annuals I have read about GSSF, andI wondered if I could join GSSF here in the Netherlandstoo? So I started writing. Great was my surprise whenyou sent me the membership card, the GLOCK Report

and the GSSF hat. The boys and girls of our gun clubwill be jealous now.

I look forward to the next GLOCK Report and Iproudly promote my GLOCKs here in the Netherlands!

Lots of Greetings, from a happy Dutch GLOCKer.

Something Borrowed,Something Blue,Something GLOCK???M y husband and I are avid GLOCK shooters. We

always go to our local GLOCK shoot and wehave even travelled to Florida for one.

When I first met my husband I already knew GLOCKwas the gun for me. My husband didn’t care for them atfirst. After my first GLOCK purchase he tried it andloved it. He bought one after another and couldn’t getenough of them.

When it came time for our wedding, I bought himthe 10th Anniversary Commemorative pistol. He wasthrilled that I bought him a wedding gift like that. Sincewe love our GLOCKs so much, I thought it would be fitting to surprise my husband and our guests with aG27 hidden in my garter. What a surprise it was!

GLOCK—An Eye-OpenerIn the mid-1980s I was the senior firearms instructor

for the Louisville Division of Police. I was introducedto the GLOCK pistol for law enforcement by Mr. GaryWade of GLOCK. I told him that I did not feel the GLOCKwas suitable for law enforcement because it had noexternal safety. Gary stated “This is a pure combat handgun.” Boy, was he right. I started shooting GLOCKseven before my agency started using them. I am a GSSFmember and I enjoy the GLOCK matches along withshooting IPSC. As you can tell by the picture of my personal GLOCK cabinet I am sold on the GLOCK pistol.“First they fired us, then they hired us.”

G19—A Great TeacherA fter serving in Viet Nam, I promised myself I

would never fire a weapon again unless out ofnecessity. For 33 years I kept my promise until 9/11/01.At that point, I made a visit to my local gun shop andbought a new G19. I was now visiting my local range afew times a week, with a pistol that in time wouldteach me how to shoot. With over 20,000 rounds offlawless effort, I can now fire 50 rounds at 13 yards andget a nice group.

I am humbled by the performance of the G19 and recommend it to other shooters on the range. Thanksagain, Gaston, for GLOCK perfection and a great little 9mm.

We Love Our GLOCKsI am enclosing a photograph that shows the GLOCKs

that I, my boyfriend and his brother have collectedover the past three months. I purchased the G19 lastwinter for personal protection, but sport shooting hasturned out to be a very fun hobby for all three of us. Wehave four GLOCKs among us, including my originalG19, a G17, and two G34s. We are constantly trying todecide which model we want next. We go out shootingwith our GLOCKs weekly—that has completelyreplaced the past hobby of trap shooting for the guys.

I recently received my GSSF membership packet andam so pleased with all of the information that came with it.

(Continued from page 1)

“I thought if I was going to carry a gun, I ought to begoing to the range and making sure I knew how to useit,” he said.

“I remember when I used to go to the range and takea single bag,” he said ruefully. “Now I have to take atruckload.”

World Shoot XIII was held outside Johannesburg inthe town of Pietersburg. The match consisted of 35 stagesof fire, spread over more than a week of shooting. Thestages included everything from arm’s length and fast tolong shots requiring precision accuracy. There was also a100-yard field course, essentially a hundred-yard dashwith lots of targets. “You don’t see that in the U.S.,”Sevigny said. “Thankfully.”

“We started early and shot late,” Sevigny told me.“This was by far the hardest match I’ve ever shot.”

That sentiment was echoed by Sharon Zaffiro, who, inessence, “found her mojo” on the plains of Africa.

Sharon Zaffiro dominated the women’s side of thepractical shooting sports throughout the 1990s.Whether it was USPSA Open or Limited (World and

National championships), the multiplicity of TheMasters, the accuracy challenges of the Bianchi Cup orsuch diverse matches like the Sportsmen TeamChallenge or the Three-Gun Championships, Zaffirowas at the top.

Then a whole series of events conspired to take herout of the winners circle and out of sight. One majorevent was the deflation of Colt Firearms, her longtimesponsor. With Colt no longer in the running, Zaffiro foundherself in the same position as a NASCAR driver who’dlost “the ride.” A couple of years ago, Zaffiro made acareer change and began working for GLOCK. After

From left to right: Diane Mills, Chris Edwards,

Bruce Wampler, Scott Gilbertson

years of pushing a 1911 Colt racegun, Sharon found herself with one of Mr. GLOCK’s plastic marvels. And shebegan to get the urge to start competing again.

Unfortunately, her job as Range Program Administratorfor GLOCK, Inc. involves a lot of travel, which is never goodfor establishing that so-necessary practice routine.

“You don’t want to know how much I ‘practiced’ thisyear,” she said. “If you want to call it practice.”

With only three matches under her belt prior to theWorld Shoot, she resolved herself to making a seriouseffort in Africa.

“I believe it’s like riding a bicycle,” she said. “You neverforget how to do it, you just have to work on finesse.”

Shooting a stock GLOCK 17 9x19 from a Safarilandcompetition holster, she smoked through the 35 stages.

“The stages were great,” she said. “I really got intothem, and I really enjoyed the shooting.”

The third G17 was in the hands of yet another veteran, Debbie Keehart-Ross, who had not been having a great year. Keehart went to Africa too with the specific goal of ending her season on a positive note.

She did that in spades, capturing the Production Guntitle for women. Production guns are held to an evenhigher standard of “stock” than Standard, and onceagain, the G17 in the hands of a master performed.

“We absolutely want to congratulate our three WorldChampions,” said Chris Edwards, founder of the GLOCKShooting Sports Foundation and the company’s compe-tition coordinator. “At this match, you saw every gunyou’re likely to encounter…Berettas, CZs, Tangfolios,H&Ks…from around the world, and we came out ontop in really hard fought races.”

Of course, Edwards added, GLOCK never had any doubtsabout the G17. “It’s an oldie,” he said, “but a goodie.”
