The Freudig Singers of Western New York Announce Winners of Third Choral Composition Competition The Freudig Singers of Western New York, directed by Roland E. Martin, recently launched the Third Freudig Singers Choral Composition Competition. Composers were invited to submit original compositions arranged for four-part choir. Forty composers (31 men, 9 women) submitted a total of fifty-four works for consideration. They live all around the world representing four continents, eight countries and 13 states in the US. The three-member jury consisted of published composers Roland E. Martin, Director of the Freudig Singers, Persis Vehar, Canisius College Composer-in-Residence, and Martin J. Wimmer, Depew Public Schools Music Teacher, Radio Host Classical 94.5/WNED, and Competition Coordinator. Wimmer states, “We’re thrilled that we can offer this amazing opportunity to composers, performers and our beloved audience members, and we hope that our competition will grow with each passing year.” The winner will receive $750 and the work will be performed and recorded during the 2012-13 concert season. Three additional works were named “Honorable Mention” and will also be performed and recorded during the season.
