The Equivalents Project

Primary & Secondary Sources

I have used secondary sources such as other artists work and pictures of still life. For example, below is a study I made of a piece of Francis Bacon’s work. I also worked from primary sources such as still life. For example I made 3 small sketches (right) based on the still life I was looking at and I made marks using ink and cardboard based on the textures I could see in the frame I was looking at.

Use of Formal Elements In this project I used many formal elements. I looked at drawing whilst including shape, tone and detail to enhance my work. I also painted from different sources including other artists work.

Visual Language To the right is a painting I did in the style of Juan Gris. I studied his visual language and developed an understanding of his colour scheme and the way he used shape. I started to develop an idea for a sculpture to represent my print. I started off with one main idea and gradually adapted it to fit the criteria.

Developing WorkI have demonstrated a understanding of health and safety around a printing press and understand the risks involved. I have also shown the progression of my work and how it has developed into a piece of art hat can be used in many possible ways; such as, the development of my printing plate.

EvaluationThroughout this project I do not feel that I have used my time management skills to the best of my ability. There were tasks in the project that were going to take more time than others and I believe that at some points I under estimated how long these task would take. For the next project I plan to be more organised and plan my time out accordingly to allow my work to reach the highest standard it can.

In this project I did lots of research. I mainly researched art styles, such as Cubism and Dada, and found artists along the way that worked in a particular style. I found it helpful to ensure I understand the style of art before I start to make a study of a piece of work in this style. To conduct this research I used mostly secondary sources such as online websites including Tate and other gallery websites.

I developed my ideas to create m model influenced by my print. I was influenced by Picasso when it came to thinking of ideas for my model. I like the simplicity but the use of many parts to his sculpture work. In my next project I hope to develop more of my ideas to showcase more of my ability.
