North Haven Yacht Club News and Views Through 2016 March Edition Someone commented recently that I hadn’t been seen around the club for ages. That’s true, I have been busy on all sorts of things, including getting a year older and a trip to Hertfordshire to be with the family. Since then I have been struggling to get the boat ready for the new season. One of the jobs took much longer than I thought and was not helped by the weather. Anyway now I’m almost ready. Did the antifoul last week with Brian Stapely’s help, the job I hate most. Naturally I was well protected in the spirit of the threat to stop us Doing it ourselves. Brian was helping me get out from under the trailer when I moved into a bad position and laid my head against the paint tray. Of course I had removed my hat by then! A generous amount of white spirit and I had a wonderful blue rinse to come home with. The next job is to check and add my strop to the mooring. Checking our moorings is something we are all required to do and not just assume the mooring team have done all the work. These jobs might be mucky but they have to be done to keep the boats afloat! THE END… The final day of the Club’s 50 year celebration. It has certainly been a busy year with lots of activities both on the water and socially. Now with the 50 year Time Capsule locked and ready to insert into a prepared space in the store, all we can do is wonder if these two young people will be able to remember where they put the keys in 50 years time. Must seem impossible to them now, but William Brooks and Sienna Hanson by then will be in their 60s. The rest of us oldies will just be a distant memory. One of the interesting items in the box was a photograph of the parking ticket machines from the car park opposite. What on earth will the charges be by 21 st . February 2065? In fact will we have our own cars by then and if we do will developers have built over every car park in town… As they say, “He who lives will see.” I’m not planning to be driving then so I’ll leave it to the youngsters to find out.
