THE SEASON OF PENTECOST ORDINARY TIME
Although a rather long period stretching from Pentecost in early June to Advent, there is nothing ordinary about thischurch season. Green is the color of this season when we are experiencing “what the Church is really like, week inweek out. These are the Sundays when we are most ourselves, and when we can be most hospitable and embracing.”Ordinary? Hardly! This is when we, as people of God “offer such an experience of worship that we will be stopped in
our tracks and glimpse, here in our midst, nothing less than the glory of God.” (Giles,Times and Seasons, Pages 2-3).
IFTAR MEAL - SATURDAY, JUNE 17 at 7:30 p.m.Join our friends from the American Turkish Friendship Association as they break theRamadan fast. All are welcome. Please let D-L Casson know if you will be attending.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast and renew their focus on prayers and the recitation of the Quran. The fast is one of thefive pillars of Islam and is considered by some to be a “spiritual detox”. In a recent article in The New Yorker, journalistSaeed Saeed wrote, “The fast is not simply about denying your body food and water. It also involves arguably the moretaxing challenge of avoiding ill speech, arguments, loss of temper and malicious behavior. The whole point of the fastis to demonstrate submission to God and keep the mind focused on a spiritual plane”.
