2013-2014 Mainstage Season Announced

In 19th century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of

unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mis-

trust and mistreatment. After breaking his parole in hopes of

starting a new life, he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector

Javert. During the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must

confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of

the student revolutionary who has captured the heart of Valjean’s

adopted daughter. His world-view shattered, Javert relents, and

Valjean at last attains the peace he has been seeking. Opening

our 45th season, this international smash hit will be presented in

the Historic Theater for two weekends only, Sep 27– Oct 6.

Sport produces great human drama and there is no greater sports

icon than Hall of Fame football coach Vince Lombardi. Though

football’s Super Bowl trophy is named for him, few know the real

story of Lombardi the man—his inspirations, his passions, and

his ablility to drive people to achieve what they never thought

possible. This mixed-media production will follow Lombardi’s

journey, attempting to lead the Green Bay Packers to the 1965

Championship. Based on the book When Pride Still Mattered—A

Life of Vince Lombardi by David Mar, Eric Simonsen’s script will

have you cheering from your seats. Showing in the Studio Thea-

tre, this production will be presented Nov 8 –17, 2013.

Gilbert and Sullivan are the undisputed masters of comic operet-

ta and the proud parents of the modern musical. That their

works are more in demand today than when they were created

over a century ago is ample proof of their brilliance. When the

hero of Pirates of Penzance was but a boy, his father instructed his

nurse to have him apprenticed as a pilot. She thought he said

“pirate” and thus the zany trouble began. Twelve giggling sisters,

a band of rough and tumble pirates, and a league of London’s

finest law enforcement all come together for hilarious fun in one

of the most popular Gilbert and Sullivan musicals of all times.

Showing for two weekends in the Historic Theater Feb14-23.

~~ 2013 Storybook Island Summer Season ~~

BHCT 2013-2014 Mainstage Season (continued)

SBI Scripts Penned by Local Author

This season at Storybook Island Chil-

dren’s Theatre we will be celebrating

the works of local published play-

wright, KRISTI THIELEN. Kristi

has penned many pieces for us over

the years, and all of us at Black Hills

Community Theatre are very excited to

be showcasing her plays for the entire

summer season. Kristi works as the

Journey Museum Programs and Mar-

keting Director, and organizes many

theatrical events at the Journey Muse-

um. Come check out Kristi’s exciting

plays for children beginning June 4th,

Tuesday through Saturday, weekly, at

Storybook Island Children’s Theatre.

Immortalized on stage and screen by Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke,

this classic drama tells the story of Annie Sullivan and her blind and

mute student, Helen Keller. Written by William Gibson, The Miracle

Worker dramatizes the volatile relationship between the lonely teacher

and her charge. Trapped in a secret, silent world and unable to com-

municate, Helen is violent, spoiled and almost sub-human and treated

by her family as such. Only Annie realizes there is a mind and spirit

waiting to be rescued from the dark, tortured silence. The Miracle

Worker, will be presented in the Studio Theater March 21-30, 2014

The peaceful English countryside may never by the same after Bertie

Wooster and his unflappable valet, Jeeves, pay a visit. What starts as

a plan to pair tongue-tied, amphibian-loving Augustus Fink-Nottle

and fanciful, poetry-loving Madeline Basset quickly goes awry. Soon,

Bertie is fending off Madeline’s amorous advances, reluctantly partici-

pating in an attempted burglary and fleeing attacks from a homicidal

French chef. Hold on to your seats as the witty banter, misinterpret-

ed intentions and physical comedy may have you rolling in the aisles!

Presented in the Studio Theater, shows are May 9-18, 2014.
