If you happen to open the golden chest of Bulgarian Literature you will meet plain , poor and suffering people . So is their food.

Bread used to be a main part of the Bulgarian repast . It was handmade . It was also baked in special pottery ovens and taken out when ready with long shovels.

Zlatyu Boyadjiev This is a painting by the famous

Bulgarian artist Zlatyu Boyadjiev. It displays a typical renaissance Bulgarian family. The family is big, united and strong. Each member of it has a certain place which never changes. The central position is for the eldest man of the family and his wife. They sit together around a low wooden table, called “Sinia”. There are no chairs. They sit on the wooden floor close to the ground, which gives them food.A position which shows their love and respect to the ground.

A member of the family says a pray and they all thank good for the food on the table, while the oldest woman breaks the wheat bun and distributes the food in pottery bowls
