We all face issues in life:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matt 5:3

I ADMIT I need help; that I’m powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable.

4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

What does this mean? What does this mean?

• I am aware that it dishonors God.

• I am able to see my selfishness.

• I recognize this as sin in my life.

• I recognize that I deserve punishment.

It means:

Page 7: THE COMMITTMENT CHOICE Life’s Healing Choices: The Beatitudes - Part 3

Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him, and that He has the power to help me change.

Page 8: THE COMMITTMENT CHOICE Life’s Healing Choices: The Beatitudes - Part 3

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” Matt. 5:5

Page 9: THE COMMITTMENT CHOICE Life’s Healing Choices: The Beatitudes - Part 3

Meaning

• In the original language of the Bible the word for “Meek” is Praeis

• Meek is strength under control.

• The spirit of meekness is actually the spirit of Jesus.

1 Peter 2:19-2419 “For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. 20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. 22 "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth." 23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”

A.W. Tozer once wrote,

“The meek man is not a human mouse afflicted with a sense of his own inferiority. Rather he may be in his moral life as bold as a lion and as strong as Samson; but he has stopped being fooled about himself. He has accepted God's estimate of his own life. He knows he is as weak and helpless as God declared him to be, but paradoxically, he knows at the same time that he is in the sight of God of more importance than angels. In himself, nothing; in God, everything. That is his motto."

“Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.”

I consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ's care and control.

Page 14: THE COMMITTMENT CHOICE Life’s Healing Choices: The Beatitudes - Part 3

This involves 3 aspects:

I Consciously Choose: Again and again, every time.

Page 15: THE COMMITTMENT CHOICE Life’s Healing Choices: The Beatitudes - Part 3

Matt 4:1-104 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." 4 Jesus

answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" 5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: "'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'" 7 Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'" 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me." 10 Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"

13 Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.“

John 4:13-14

All my life and will: Everything

As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?“

Mark 10:17

21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." 22 At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

Mark 10:21- 22

Jesus should be our one thing, the only thing and everything.

To Christ’s care and Control: I can Trust Him

5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. 6 I will sing to the Lord, for he has been good to me.
