Key Club Pledge I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the Objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my nation ; and combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions.

Word from your secretary...

Dear Edward R. Murrow High School Key Club,

My name is Cindy Zhang and I am your newly elected 2012-2013 Key Club Secretary. For the past 2-3 months experience as an of-ficer, I’m ready to make the best of our club when the next school year starts. I am excited about plan-ning fun events or projects that we all can do to serve our community. I would be appreciated if you the members tell me and the officers your ideas that we can do in Key Club. My job is to make Key Club enjoyable and inspirational as much as possible for the members. I believe that the walks and other events we did so far were successful. Since the school year is over, that doesn’t mean key club activities are postponed until we get back. I hope that Key Club will stay active in the summer. From Key Club Secretary, Cindy Zhang PS. I wish everyone a wonderful summer.

The AIDS Walk The Key Club of Edward R. Murrow High School at-tended the AIDS walk last month and although it was a grue-some six point two mile trudge our members still came out of it with optimism! “Even though we were all exhausted from 3 hours of walking in the scorching weather, it was worth it knowing we were able to finish the walk.” and “…crossing the finish line made us feel accomplished.” Were all things said by Diana Situ about the AIDS walk. I completely agree with Diana especially that bit about the killer weather. Along with a sense of accomplishment, some of us walked away with the good feeling of making an impact. ”Knowing that doing the walk to help people made me felt like the walk was worth it.” commented YanFen (Melissa) Huang , and fellow key clubber Aileen Xu said “…the money we made was to try to find a cure for aids… It was tiring, but it was a good cause.” A good cause Indeed, More than one million individuals in the United States alone are infected by the Hiv/AIDS virus. It is very important for us to take action against this terrible epi-demic and fight it however we can. No words can describe how proud I was to see everyone come out that day despite the harsh weather.

The Ice Breaker Written by Iris Li

On Monday April 2nd 2012 2:45pm I remember stand-

ing alongside five other students in front of 50+ of our

peers leading our first ever meeting as active officers. I re-

member looking at the crowd and thinking “I don’t know a

lot of these people and they probably don’t know us.” I re-

alized how wrong it felt for us to call ourselves a club and

not at least know each other’s first name! The other offi-

cers and I agreed upon this matter and set out to change it.

Thus, The Ice Breaker was born. The ice breaker event

aimed to warm key clubbers up to each other. It took form

in an outdoor picnic in central park and it was a full day of

games and food. A good amount of you guys showed up

with delicious food and awesome (if not daring) activity

ideas. We played volleyball, truth or dare, red rover and a

game called “The picnic game” (fitting right?) for the

chance to hear each other’s names. I’ve posted a few pic-

tures of the picnic next to names and the objective is to

match the name with the face, if you were listening during

the game you shouldn’t have any problem at all. Have fun

guys and good luck!

Pie a Teacher

The second annual pie a teacher day took place this year

at food fair on the 24th of May. Our booth was once again a

great success due to the generous donations of supplies and

time from you fellow club members and the deans who volun-

teered for their face to be pelted with pudding and whipped

crème. I’m sure we all had a wonderful time making fun of

and tossing desserts at our favorite and in some case least fa-

vorite deans. The money we earned from this event will help

us keep our club running further more allowing us to continue

serving our community. Thanks to everyone to contributed,

hopefully we will be seeing the majority of you guys next

Word From Your Editor...

Another end to another issue! I hope you guys noticed the changes in format. The new background adds a level of professionalism don’t you think? But that’s not what I wanted you all to notice. The jour-nalist credit at the top of every article is what I was hoping you guys took note on. When you read that I bet some of you were thinking “Why’d she put that there? Of course we know it’s her who wrote, who else could have?” And my respond to that is: it could be you. I want all of us involved in this newsletter; it was one of my promises to you when I ran for this position. I want every member to be participating in our club besides the charitable events we do. I want us to know each other’s names. I want us to talk to each other outside of club meetings. Bottom line I want us to feel like a club and I feel that by having us let loose sometimes and do things like the ice breaker and this newsletter we can achieve a little of that. I’m not forcing us to be bffls here but I strongly encour-age you guys to reach out to each other and to reach out to me and participate.

Your KC editor, Iris Li
