MASS INTENTIONS
The custom of requesting a priest to offer the Mass for a specific intention, even when one cannot be physically present at the Mass, is a longstanding tradition in the Church. This is because the Church considers the Mass as the greatest possible prayer of intercession insofar as it is the perfect offering of Christ to the Father by making present the paschal mystery of his death and resurrection. You may request a Mass Intention by visiting the
Cathedral Center Office. Mass Intentions are posted in the Parish Bulletin, and on our website:
www.thecathedralofstmary.org
The Jubilee Year of Mercy “…Plenary Indulgence for the temporal punishment of sins, imparted by the mercy of God and applicable also to the souls of deceased faithful, may be obtained by all faithful who, truly penitent, take Sacramental Confession and the Eucharist and pray in accordance with the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff
What must one do in order to receive the special Plenary Indulgence?
In order to gain this special Indulgence, a Catholic is required first to make sacra-mental Confession, receive the Eucha-rist at Mass, make a profession of faith and offer prayers (Our Father , Hail Mary and the Creed) for the Supreme Pontiff's intentions. In addition to and in conjunction with fulfilling these con-ditions, one may then take part in any of the following ob-servances of the Jubilee of Mercy. Each time one visits, in the course of a pilgrimage, one of the six designated pilgrimage places in the Archdiocese of Mi-ami: one is The Cathedral of Saint Mary, and then walks through the designated Holy Door, and makes a brief visit. The Pope has asked the Church in this Jubilee Year to rediscover the richness encompassed by the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. The ex-perience of mercy, indeed, becomes visible in the wit-ness of concrete signs as Jesus himself taught us. Each time that one of the faithful personally performs one or more of these actions, he or she shall surely obtain the Jubilee Indulgence. Indulgence can also be obtained for the deceased.
FAST AND ABSTINENCE The holy season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Both Ash Wednesday and Good

years of age. All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat
for those 14 years and older.

WE WILL CELEBRATE MASS IN HONOR OF THE ELEV-
ENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF THE SERVANT OF
GOD
FR. LUIGI GIUSSANI,
FOUNDER OF THE MOVEMENT OF
COMMUNION & LIBERATION.
“That only Christ gives meaning to the whole of our life. He
always kept the eyes of his life and of his heart fixed on Christ.
In this way, he understood that Christianity is not an intellectual
system, a packet of dogmas, a moralism. Christianity is rather an
encounter, a love story; it is an event.”
Homily of Cardinal Ratzinger on funeral mass of Fr. Giussani 2/22/2005
