MIDDLE SCHOOL EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION

CSN offers several areas in which students have opportunities for leadership, service, and academic enrichment.

Sixth Grade• Students embark on a series of team building

exercises through the Path Finders Program.• Students undergo a fossil excavation along

the Peace River.Seventh Grade• Academic enrichment is discipline oriented.

Learning is extended through the use of our native Southwest Florida resources. Students visit the Renaissance Fair in Ft. Lauderdale, explore the national preserve in Big Cypress, and conduct an overnight marine science unit at Sea World.

• Students visit Manatee Park and go canoing as part of their unit on life science.

Eighth Grade• Students journey to the nation’s Capital,

Washington D.C. for an unforgettable lesson in our nation’s past.

• Students attend the physics fair at Busch Gardens as part of their physical science unit.

GLOBAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM

CSN welcomes students representing 19 US states and 15 countries. In the safety of this envi-ronment, CSN students develop a clear identity, become comfortable with who they are, and are active members of an increasingly interconnected global community.

Beginning in grade 7, students are offered the opportunity to study anywhere from two weeks to one year abroad. We currently have sister school partnerships with St. Stephen’s in Rome, Italy and the American School of Valencia in Spain. We are also a member of S.Y.A. (School Year Abroad) for high school students seeking a year abroad in another country.

100% of CSN graduates

attend select four-year

colleges and universities.

An average of 70% of six

and seventh grade CSN

students qualify for the

Duke Talent Identification

Program each year.

Middle School Academic Program

MIDDLE SCHOOL

The Middle School challenges students in a nurturing environment to become independent thinkers. The vision for the middle school program is to provide a broad range of opportunities to address the unique needs of the pre-adolescent/adolescent child. Students transition to a rigorous academic schedule, requiring personal time management and responsibility.

A strong advisory program becomes the touchstone for both students and parents in the Middle School. Each student is matched with an advisor for a full year and meetings are conducted regularly throughout the week. The advisor serves as an advocate for the student and acts as a liaison between the parents and the School. Students learn to set goals, recognize and demonstrate character traits valued by the CSN community, and develop leadership skills that can be used both in the School and the community at-large.

MIDDLE SCHOOL HOURSGrades 6 - 8 8:00 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.

STUDENT SCHEDULEStudents in the middle school have seven, fifty minute periods a day with a 30 minute meeting time each day allocated for advisory meetings, grade level activities, or middle school assemblies.
