Take a Wiff of This

Holey Balls in Your Mouth

Holey Balls jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead on us in the top half of the 1st. We responded with 2 of our own in the bottom half of the frame and then continued to chip away over the next few innings. We never really had a breakout inning offensively, but we were able to pull away with an 8-5 win. At least that’s what the scorebook says. Take it for what it’s worth. It was a good, close game. Our two teams match up well against each other. Baham was a homerun machine that night and I think Matt hit a homerun as well. Charm and Daniel scored a couple runs apiece.

- Robbie Wright

The game was close...before we had started it. Just playin'. It was a solid game but we couldn't hold off the aggressive base running and their ground hits. Take a Wiff took advantage of every little mistake we made. Our performance was better from the first time we played them. Holey Balls is becoming a better team week by week. Great game by all.

Sons of Pitches

The last game of the season. A bittersweet loss. The lead changed hands 4 times in this game and we entered the last at bat down 3 runs. We were able to scratch two

runs together but couldn’t get the last bat heroics we needed to win the game and end the season on a high note. Nevertheless, Wiffskey played solid defense on a day where the wind didn’t help either of us. I think there were only 3 home runs combined in this game so there was a lot of defense and smart base running by both teams to pull together 23 runs. Looking forward to a fun tournament and luau on Saturday with an opening round game against Gordon and his band of purple people eaters.

- Will Buker

We went into the day knowing that if we won 1-out-of-2 games, we would win the regular season and take the number one seed in the tournament. Our first game against Sons of Pitches was an extremely tough game. It seemed like we were losing in most of the contest. It was back and forth, with solid hitting and good fielding by both teams. Luckily, we ended up with just one more run on the scoreboard when it was all said and done. It definitely could have gone either way. Good game, Sons of Pitches!

Take a Wiff of This

Da bombers

Da Bombers figured this to be a tough game considering the circumstances however we played well and so did Take a Whiff. Game was close for the first couple of innings but Take A Wiff got rolling and kept it going. Good job by both teams and we are looking forward to the playoffs. Great season everybody.

- Gordon Boothe

The Bombers were short-handed this game. They had two outfielders and no catcher. They have some good players but it would be damn hard for any team to pull off a win with only like seven players. Maybe it’s because of all of the open space in the field, but our bats came alive this game. We would have scored more, but the Bombers made some nice defensive plays to stop the bleeding. A diving stop by Gordon at shortstop comes to mind. Kudos to the Bombers for playing the game despite being short a few players. We’ve been in that position before and know how difficult it can be.

- Robbie Wright

Wiffskey Militia

This was one of those close games where either team could've won. Both teams made amazing plays but also made a few errors. Thanks to Mike "I hit a home run every time I touch the ball" Mars for being involved in almost every run we scored, and a special thanks to me for some ridiculously good plays on the defensive side of the ball (Yes, I am giving myself props). Now, if I could only hit the ball next time around, or not slide and get called out, I think we'll be alright. I can't wait for the playoffs and hopefully get some payback. Great job to the Militia for a well played game.

- Antonio Pazos

WIFFSKEY MILITIA

So, going into our second game of the day, we were excited about taking the regular season crown. I think before the game even started, we had already taken two test tube shots that April brought and some of us had shotgunned beers too…haha. So, I would say we went into this game, relaxed. I think Down Wiff It sensed our guard was down and they got off to a fast start. Down Wiff It has a good squad. Everyone knows Mike can hit the ball a mile and they have many other quality players as well. We battled back, little bit by little bit and ended up taking a three-run lead going into the bottom of the last inning. Two homeruns for Down Wiff It and they were just one run away from drawing even. With two outs, another player hit a deep shot to center field. Craig backed up and caught the fly ball just short of the cones to end the game.

Buker’s Predictions Down Wiff It vs. Holey Balls in YOUR Mouth

Down Wiff it has power sources all up and down their lineup, men and women included. HBIYM has better infield defense but is suspect in the outfield. DWI hits a lot of balls to the outfield so that can be an area of concern for James Salgado and his band of plucky upstarts. HBIYM tends to load up their lineup in the front and then hope the back half can string together some offense. DWI does a better job of level loading their lineup to ensure consistent run production from top to bottom. I'm positive DWI can't "Stop the Chop" but will play strong enough defense to minimize the damage from the rest of the HBIYM lineup. DWI's offense will be too much for HBIYM to handle. Final Score Prediction: DWI 16 - 7 HBIYM

Sons of Pitches vs. Da Bombers These two teams split the season series, each with a signature win. This game pits the second highest scoring team in the league versus the second lowest scoring team in the league. SOP can score runs in bunches against even the best teams in this league and have one of the most formidable 3-4-5 hitters in Caroline, Ricky, and Brian. DB has lost 4 in a row coming into the tournament but has a penchant for stringing together offense and creating big innings. SOP, meanwhile, has seemingly lost their home run stroke from last season and can't seem to stay organized on defense. Can Caroline match Ashleigh? Can Ricky and Brian go swing for swing with Dante and Gordon? SOP will have every opportunity to take this game from the league's third worst run scoring defense but after the final out, DB will stay composed enough to turn around their losing streak and move on in the tournament to face the top seeded Wiffskey Militia. Final Score prediction: SOP 14 - 17 DB

Opening Round

Wiffskey Militia vs. Da Bombers Wiffskey Militia has the best defense in the league... period. When they're not playing wiffleball on Thursdays, they're playing in someone's backyard on the weekend. This is the most prepared team these league has to offer. After an early misstep, they've won 9 games in a row and have scored double digits in all but two of those wins. Da Bombers play solid defense as well and even held WM to 6 runs (albeit in a loss) earlier this season. Both teams have powerful male hitters that play solid defense. This game will be won by the team who's women collectively hit better. The edge in that category most certainly goes to the Militia. DB will keep it close for a while but the WM ladies have played wiffleball for a long time and know how to deliver the timely hit. Final Score Prediction: WM 15 - 6 DB

Down Wiff It vs. Take a Wiff of This Down Wiff It represents the ultimate in risk/reward wifflin'. They're far and away the highest scoring team in the league but also don't play a lot of defense... as in no defense at all. They've allowed the most runs in the league. So which DWI will show up? The team that steals extra bases and hits the timely long ball or the team that plays out of position and puts their offense in an uphill climb. If it's the latter, TAWT will take advantage with their veteran ball players and solid defense. TAWT, if fielding their full squad, is the best team in the league at limiting mistakes and minimizing damage. It will be difficult for DWI to overcome "The Robs" and "The Reyeseseses" and after all is said and done, TAWT will hold on to beat DWI. Final Score Prediction: TAWT 9 - 8 DWI

Semi-Finals

Wiffskey Militia vs. Take a Wiff of This This will be a rematch of last year's championship game. These two teams split the season series but WM won on aggregate 21-14. This is another game that will come down to the veteran play of seasoned wiffle ballers. Both teams expect to make it to the championship game. Buck, Colin, Joseph, John, Craig, and Marcus. Matt, Rob, Robbie, Jon, Ronnie, and Daniel. Those twelve men will match each other swing for swing as the game progresses. The old wiffleball adage of "There's no defense for a homerun" will stand true in this high scoring affair. But this game will be won by a girl making the timely hit or making a key defensive out. That play will be made by one of the ladies from... Wiffskey Militia. Final Score Prediction: WM 11 - 7 TAWT

Championship Game

The Hookup If you haven’t met Jessica Morimando yet, you don’t know what you’re missing. This chick is a little spitfire! She’s from New York, so you know she’s got some sass to her. She might come off hard on the outside, but she’s a softy that just wants to be loved…or shall we say loved on! HA, just kidding! You can find this girl out on the town on the dance floors. She’s Hispanic, so you know she can dance her little booty off. You can find this chick in the outfield of Take a Wiff of This games catching any balls that come flying at her…..ok you dirty perverts, I didn’t mean it like that!

If this frat boy isn’t in the middle of tickle fights or taking awkward midnight shirtless pictures, then you can find him hitting bombs and dropping balls for Holey Balls in your MOUTH! Roman Goldshtenyn is the boy from Chesapeake with the weird accent. Ladies, if his stunning good looks don’t hook you in, then his Ukranian accent should do the trick. If that doesn’t do it, maybe his quick wittedness and his ability to make you laugh at a drop of a dime might do it….and if that doesn’t do it, his ability to whip up some bomb a$$ BBQ and some smoked macaroni & cheese….they always say the way to a woman’s heart is through her stomach. He’s already won Robbie and I over through our stomachs! And if none of these win you over, then there’s something wrong with you…just sayin! Roman is a catch and I’ll be taking applications for him, because of course, I have to approve first Loves ya kid!
