Aana has also been a part of the High School Youth Group, also participating in the Steubenville of the Rockies Youth Conference numerous times, and has become an avid member of the parish music department utilizing her skills as a viola player. Outside of her church commitments Aana enjoys writing stories and poetry, playing music, and German dancing with her family. Her music career has been a huge part of her life. She has majored in Orchestra at Denver School of the Arts for the past 7 years, and because of it, she has received many amazing opportuni- ties and awards such as playing with Lindsey Stirling, putting on her own concert, performing in New York at Lincoln Center and much more. She will be majoring in Music this Fall at CU Denver, and was also accepted into Berklee College of Music in Boston and Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln. In Aana’s own words, "I'm extremely excited to continue my music career and see where God will take me. My biggest piece of advice for anyone applying to college is to keep God in the picture. I learned the hard way that it only makes it more difficult to decide when you leave him out." We are thrilled for Aana Rase and her future and could not be more proud of the impact she has made on the Community at St. Jude with her music and more importantly her passion for God.

Mission Statement: The Catholic Community of St. Jude is formed in faith in Jesus Christ. We seek to grow in our faith through the proclamation of God's Word and the celebration of the Sacraments. We are dedicated to love and care for all God's people in their physical and spiritual needs. The stewardship of our time, talent and treasure is conducted in a way that shows our gratitude to God for His blessings.

Andre Le is one of our Senior Scholarship Award recipients for the 2017-18 School Year. Andre is gradu-ating from Lakewood High School and the IB program. He has been a part of the religious education and youth programs at the parish since the 5th grade. Here is a little bit from Andre’s perspective and time here at St. Jude.

“Every year spent at St. Jude has been a fun one. Each year is another year to strengthen my faith and relation-ship with God. Through a combination of youth group,

Steubenville of the Rockies Youth Conference, 7AM Mass and an experience of almost getting lost while picking up burritos, I’ve learned that we all need to be open to accepting God’s will and be ready to recognize His signs. Even when His sign is a moving car at 25mph and you’re on a bike going .5mph.”

His advice, “Let’s help people, one good deed and one good laugh at a time.” Andre has kept us laughing and we can’t wait to see what God has in store for him as he attends college at Colorado University in Denver.

Aana Rase is one of our Senior Scholarship Award Recipients. Aana has been part of St. Jude her entire life, but only really got involved when she went through confirmation in 8th grade. Sack Lunch Sunday June 3rd , 2018 for the Volunteers of America to help feed the poor. Please bring a sack lunch prior to the 11:00 a.m. Mass.

PASTOR’S POTPOURRI- SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION

Forty days after Easter in Luke’s tradition, Jesus ascended into heaven after giving the apostles their marching orders. As we see in today’s reading, an angel comes and asks them: “Men of Galilee. Why do you stand there looking up to heaven?” He insists that they

get on to the work of preaching the Good News to the peo-ple. Next Sunday we celebrate Pentecost, the 50th day of East-er. We will celebrate confirmation for 72 some young people with Father Capucci presiding. Pray for those to be confirmed. And after they are confirmed, they will receive their First Commun-ion. It will be a big day for them and for their families.

We also wish all our moms a Happy Mothers’ Day and ask our Blessed Mother to look down on them and lift them up in all the toils and labors of their lives.

—Fr. Bob

Registration is now open Contact Brenda for more information at [email protected] or 303-988-6435 X 18

BASIC SUPPLES NEEDED: Large boxes or pieces of cardboard, paper grocery bags, brown paper (Amazon often uses it as packing material), cardboard tubes (paper towel size or larger) and carpet tubes, thick rope. See the display in the gathering space for other items we need. Thank you for your support!

Vacation Bible School needs YOU! Each summer we have around 60 children join us for a fun-filled week of learning about Jesus’ love for them. It takes a minimum of 18 adults (or mature teenagers) to make this happen. VBS will run from 9:00 a.m. to noon June 11 – 15. There

will be an evening training prior to that week and all plans, materials, scripts etc. will be provided for you. Please contact Brenda at 303-988-6435 x 18 if you are interested or would like more information about helping out with VBS.

Faith: Pass it on! Next fall, approximately 100 children in grades K – 5 will sign up here at St. Jude to learn more about Jesus and their Catholic faith. At this time, many of those children have no catechist to teach them as several of our catechists are mov-ing, moving on, or having babies! YOU can help by becoming a catechist for faith formation. As you nurture the faith of our youth, you will learn and grow as well. Please contact Brenda at 303-988-6435 x 18 if you are interested or would like more information about teaching our young people.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) St. Jude’s RCIA program is a year round program. This model of formation provides a form of learning, centered on the relationship of the individual with the person of Jesus Christ and with his body, the church. It centers catechesis in the primary place where that relationship is fostered and celebrated, in the community of faith that gathers Sunday by Sunday throughout the year. “Within the cycle of the year the Church unfolds the whole mystery of Christ, from his incarnation and birth until his ascension, the day of Pentecost and the expectation of blessed hope and of the Lord’s re-turn” (Constitution of Sacred Liturgy [CSL], 102.) This model also respects the journey of each person. It assumes that those who come seeking initiation will be welcomed whenever they arrive, no matter what time of the year that happens to be.

In this model of sacramental catechesis, the church uses the language of journey, conversion, discipleship and relation-ship. Rather than a program of specific instruction, the RCIA suggests a fluid, gradual process of formation, the heart of which is the paschal mystery of Jesus Christ.

Contact Deacon Mike Bunch at [email protected] or 303-988-6435 ext 16 to register.
