John 17:21-23 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me

through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in

you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given

them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in

me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent

me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

This is part of the priestly prayer in Jesus’ final discourse. Jesus prays not only for his disciples but all who

will come to believe. Jesus will soon suffer, die, and be raised on the third day. Jesus prays that the work he

has accomplished will continue in the work of his disciples and throughout the community of faith. This

includes the work today and continues on until Jesus Christ returns again. This work is done only to glorify

God the Father.

As the body of Christ, Jesus prays that we are to be one in each other as he and the Father are one. People

will know to whom we belong if we love one another. 1 Corinthians 12:14-26 Indeed the body does not

consist of one member but of many. God is the giver of our gift. For example if a foot says “because I am

not a hand, I am not a part of the body.” The body is to work together in union. The hand cannot say to

the foot, “I have no need of you.” Paul dedicates this chapter to oneness. If one part of the body is hurting,

the whole body is affected. When that one part of the body rejoices than the whole body rejoices.

1 Corinthians 13:1-7 is known as the love chapter. Many men and women use part or all of these verses in

a reading for their marriage. It expresses their promise of oneness to each other.

This is what love is. The scriptures talk about this again and again. We have peace because the gospel is

love. We love those whom we already love. This is not hard. We are to love the stranger who by our witness

may turn into a believer which is work of the Holy Spirit. As Jesus prays in his priestly prayer; “I have

given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so

that they may be brought to complete unity.”

Ascension Budget Council would like the membership to be aware of

our financial status on a month to month basis. Below

WANTED FLOWERS FOR THE ALTAR This is the time of year when flowers are blooming. If you have an abundance in

your garden please consider bringing some to Church on Sunday. It doesn’t

have to be for a special occasion. If it would be for a special observance please indicate that on the signup list on the table by the library. You can

bring them in a vase or we have vases available in the fellowship storage room.

Thank you to everyone who made the Country Gospel service a success. To Pastor Mark and Toni for putting the worship service together, Heather for putting the power point together

and the Praise Team for a great service. Dawn for organizing the BBQ lunch, Sue for putting the silent auction and bucket raffle together, Glen and Phyllis for setting up the tables and

managing the kitchen, to everyone who worked that day and to everyone who brought food. It

was a huge success. We made $954.00 for the church roof fund.

Bible Study Reminder

The Monday night Bible Study group

will continue to meet during the

summer months on a week by week

basis. Contact Dave Klemp for more information.

The Tuesday morning Bible Study has ended for the

summer months. It will resume again in the Fall.

Watch for notices in the Visitor and Church

bulletins. We will continue to have Small Group

Bible Study on Sunday mornings at 8:30am.

Special Projects Fund Estimates for the church roof are between

$29,700-$58,000 and Solar removal is

estimated at $12,000 more or less. We

currently have $ 16,282.77 in the Special Project

Fund. Below are fundraisers we are doing for the

church roof.

are a dollar each. Please put your money in the envelope in the box. If you want

to sell elsewhere, please see Heather Goodacre.

Looking for Thrivent Members Please let the office know if you have an insurance

policy or investment funds with Thrivent. Any Thrivent member is eligible to apply for two $250 Thrivent action cards which can be used to as seed

money for our fundraisers or for community service projects. We will help you with the

application process and completing your final report for any project you my be involved with.

Navarino Days Pie Sale

We will be selling homemade pies for Navarino Days on Saturday, July 13th.

We are in looking for people to donate pies. We are also looking for volunteers to work from

11am-3pm or until pies are sold. Watch for a sign up list is on the table in back of church. Please

bring your pies to church on Friday the 12th or to the ballpark the day of the event.

Council Meeting Minutes Wednesday, June 19, 2019

President George Peters brought the meeting to order at 6:00 pm.

Devotion led by Pastor Mark Sabin and prayer by Pastor Mark Sabin.

Approval of minutes: 1st by Dave K, and 2nd by Glen P. Voice vote passed.

Pastors Report: Two hospital visits. Two home visits one with holy communion and one without. Recognized graduates Sunday, Hosted Missionary Gladys Mungo and planning of country gospel service.

Treasurer’s/Finance Report: Income for May $5,470.00 Expenses for May $5,253.31 YTD we are $1,445.18 in the red for income vs expenses. Project fund: Loud offering $176.09, Thrivent Choice $49.00, Fellowship Fund $50.00. Script program cards being purchased at this point. Kwik Trip rebate: 5.51, Amazon Smile $5.00, Misc. donations $50.00 Total available for projects $17,028.51. Report approved by Glen P, 2nd Dave K. Voice vote passed.

Property: The well tested positive for coliform. Darrell is working with the DNR on testing and shocking of the well. More tests to follow. Glen presented a quote from Wolf River Asphalt on fixing the potholes and remarking lines for our parking lot. Requesting more quotes from other contractors before pursuing and presenting to the congregation.

Worship: Country Gospel service was a success. Proceeds from donations and raffle/bucket netted $954.00.

Membership: Bonnie continues to work on the list and has created a letter to send to individuals that haven’t responded.

New Business: Propane contract: Bonnie is working on getting several prices before approving a contract for propane.

Request by “Fresh Project” to use our parking lot to provide produce in our area on Tuesdays. Bonnie will contact the leader as a “certificate of insurance” would be needed before consideration.

Presentation to council by Church Mutual representative on property insurance.

Emergency letter: Bonnie created a flow sheet of who is contacted and procedures of canceling service. Old Business: Community Dinner: July dinner will be hot dogs and brats August dinner will be hamburgers and brat patties. Projects: (Roof) est. $29,700-$58,000). + Solar removal $12,000 +/-

Fundraising: Upcoming Fundraisers: Navarino Days Pie Sale: July 13th (Pies will be needed on Friday July 12th-to be delivered to church. We will need volunteers to help sell pie slices the day of the event. (11:00am-2:00pm -or sold out). Thrivent Action Dollars applied for by Kay F. Signup on back table. John and Dorothy Nelson Auction: July 20th. John and Dorothy Nelson have offered for Ascension to have a food booth at their auction with proceeds going to the roof fund. David R will apply for Thrivent Action Team funding. Thank you to all that have volunteered to help Norwegian Cemetery Brat Fry: August 26th, 27th, 28th. (Monday -Wednesday). Charlies County Market Red Barn. We need 3 Thrivent members to apply for Thrivent Action Funds, one for each day to pay for the meat and buns. Profits will be used towards the roof fund. We will need volunteers for all three days. A sign up is on the back table. Annual Fall Rummage sale. We can hold this event again and are looking for volunteers to help coordinate. Tentatively scheduled for September 21st.

Continued Fundraisers: Script program: Scrip cards can be purchased from Bonnie at any time and also after each service. We get a percentage back after the cards are used. We received our first check from Kwik Trip from script cards that have been used. VandeWalle Candy Bars: Candy Bars are available in the social hall. If you would like to sell a box at your work place, please see Heather Goodacre.

We are in need of congregation members who have Thrivent policies to consider applying for Thrivent action team money for fundraising events. Members receive 2 -$250 that can be used for fundraisers. Please let Bonnie know if you can help us out. Bonnie can help you apply.

If you have any ideas of future fundraisers, please let the council or the fundraising committee know so we can discuss as possibilities to increase the funds for the roof fund.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT FOR HAITI’S CHILDREN

You outdid yourselves again this year! Gladys had a car full of our donations and

a second trip will be needed to collect the remaining items. The people that are

touched by your generosity will certainly feel the love as they are able to

attend church and school and ‘LOOK GOOD FOR GOD’.

Just a note that we are not collecting pill bottles for Haiti at this time.

The next Community Dinner will be Wednesday, July 17th at 5:30pm.

Brats and hotdogs will be provided along with ice cream for dessert.

We are asking for donations of Potato Salad, Pasta Salads, Fresh Fruit and

Fresh Vegetables, Chips and Dip, Deviled Eggs, Jello’s, Cookies and other

Desserts.

The Navarino Nature Center has many upcoming events. Below are a list of July events. You can RSVP at navarinonc@gmail.com.

*Creepy Crawley Day Camp: July 11th from 9:30am to 1pm. Registration is required either online through

www.navarino.org or by calling the Nature Center at 715-758-6999. Boys and Tomboys will venture into

the woods in search of crawly critters and materials to build a toad house, find and hold frogs, salamanders,

and play with Maize, our in house snake. We will make nature crafts, have our in house artist do face

painting. A special campfire meal will be provided. Ages: 5 - 10 (no chaperone required) Wednesday, July 11, 2019

Time: 9:30 - 1:00 Fee: Members: $40, Non-members: $45

*Nature Photography Workshop: Thursday, July 11th: 6-8pm. Are you new to photography and want to learn more about how to

take a great photograph? Do you own a camera or a phone? If so, then come on out to Navarino Nature Center on Thursday, July

11th, 2019 for a photography workshop and hike! Participants will be engaged in learning and discussion about the basics of

working your camera, great nature photographers and what makes their photos great, and how to set yourself up to take a great

photo out in nature during a walk around the wildlife area. We hope you can join us! Registration required by calling

*Harry Potter Day Camp #1: Wednesday July 24th or Harry Potter Day Camp #2: Friday July 26th. Time: 9:30am to 2pm. This

day camp will bring your child into the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Wizards & Witches will spend the day with Hogwarts

teachers learning potion making, wand picking, different magical classes, and Quidditch. This wizarding camp will have exciting

experiences & enchantments that will create memories that last a life time!!Ages: 5-12 Registration is required. Fee: Members:

$40, Non-members: $45

*Junior Explorers Camp: Tuesday July 30th through August 2nd. July 30th- Aug. 1st: Time: Tues. July 30th – Thurs. August 1st 10

am — 3 pm Fri. August 2nd 10 am - 1 pm What is the Junior Explorer program? The Junior Explorers program is for children

ages 9 to 14. The program teaches them about our natural environments by having them participate in outdoor recreational

activities. Exploring is not for the faint of heart, whether it’s landing that big fish, learning how to canoe, mountain biking around

and through the wildlife area (must supply your own bike), or setting up camp and cooking over an open fire. This is a very

active, hands on nature experience.

Day One: Introductions — name tags, fishing on the Wolf River & picnic. (Bring sack lunch)

Day Two: Introduction to canoes and exploring the flowages of Navarino. (Bring sack lunch)

Day Three: Bring your bike, sunglasses, helmet or hat as we ride around & through the wildlife area. (Bring sack lunch)

Day Four: It’s time for games! Activities abound with a last day of hoorah. Then prepare the campfire for the cookout lunch!

(Cookout lunch provided) End at 1:00 PM Registration is required. Fee: Members: $60, Non-members: $70.

Don’t Speak the Truth Incorrectly! By Kevin Patterson

An older Lady who happened to be a very poor cook, gave a preacher and his family a homemade pie. The pie tasted so terrible, that the preacher’s wife had no choice but to throw it in the garbage. The preacher wanted to thank the lady for the gift, but at the same time, he wanted

to be truthful. After much thought, he sent the following note: “Dear Mrs. Jones, Thank you for your kindness. I can assure you that pies such as you bake never last long around our house.”

The truth is sometimes a difficult thing for us to handle, and we often have just as much difficulty administering it to others. No one would doubt that the Bible teaches us never to lie, but is there a wrong way to tell the truth? Yes! When telling God’s truth, we should never use the Bible as a club to beat someone over the head with what is right. We should always dispense His truth with loving kindness. Paul gave the members of the

church at Ephesus a very important instruction concerning the conveyance of God’s word. He told them in Ephesians 4:15 that they were to speak the truth, but they were to speak ‘truth in love’ That is the only way were are to relate the truth of God’s word to others. Now, we are most certainly commanded to tell the truth. There is no exception to this rule. Lying will only get us in trouble, both presently and eternally (Revelation 21:8). But, when we tell the truth, there is a right way and a wrong way to go about it. If we use the right way that Paul outlined to the Christians

in Ephesus, the truth may be used to turn a soul away from sin and to the love of God. However, if we use the wrong way and speak the truth our of pride, arrogance, or selfishness, then the truth will have been spoken, but a soul may have been lost. So, remember to speak the truth always,

but always speak the truth in love.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x13 inch pan. Mix cake mix as directed on pack-age. Pour into pan. Mix sugar with rhubarb and pour over cake. Pour unwhipped cream over the top. Bake 50 minutes. Serve plain or with cool whip on top.
