In order to comply with Federal Guidelines, FNS has implemented a program to differentiate revenue from vending machines where students consume meals from all other vending machines.
• Cafeteria vending- machines that are located where students consume meals
• Enterprise vending-machines located in all other areas; by gym, media, bus loop, teacher lounge locations, all bus garages, maintenance, and charter schools.
Revenue Share Program

• A portion of the revenue is shared with school principals, transportation, maintenance departments, and the District Office Social Committee
• Principals may use funds to benefit student programs

• Cafeteria managers are required to complete periodic reconciliation reports.
• To reconcile the manager compares a report of cash deposits for the period with cash sales recorded in the web based vending software for that same period.
• A difference of plus or minus 3% is expected to be within compliance.
• The report is completed electronically on an Excel form provided on a shared drive.

Profitability & Analysis
• The web based vending software offers these reports among others: sales summary, sales by range, product sales, and transactions reports. These are reviewed frequently to assess the productivity of the program.
• These reports aid in making decisions on vending machine placement, future acquisitions, and selection of products.

Web Based Vending Software
• Smartboard equipped vending machines utilize a web based software to provide sales data, inventory tracking, alerts, and to facilitate credit card and account sales.
• We are able to monitor the “health” of the machine.
• Planograms indicate product placement as well cost, price, and size.
Point of Sale
• Our POS software provider wrote an interface between the web based vending software and the POS software to enable vending purchases utilizing student and adult meal accounts.

• To protect students from the unscrupulous use of their accounts, our tech team came up with solution.
• Fraud Guard acts much like an alert on a credit card.
• When a certain threshold is reached the pin number is changed to “HACK” which disallows any further activity.
• Managers may provide another pin number to the student when the issue has been resolved.

• Cafeteria managers request service for their vending machine(s) through an electronic form easily accessible from a shortcut on their desktops.
• The form has the convenience of drop down menus to populate fields to expedite the process, and allows for data to be captured.
• Searches and sorts can be done through the software which aids in identifying reoccurring problems, and provides a history of issues.
• Depending on the problem, it is handled by either FNS technology or an FNS equipment technician.
