This magazine, as the name probably made quite obvious, will be re-leased everyday - Monday to Friday. Its purpose will be to relay to you the highlights of the days’ news in music and in film. We will endeavour to publish an issue every evening.

The Angle Daily is an interactive magazine. That means that unlike a lot of other publications that just talk about music and video, we can actually show them to you and include them on the page itself. The majority of the images inside are clickable- doing so could allow you to play a video, listen to a song or just visit a website. The article will probably tell you what to expect.

We’re currently looking for unsigned bands and artists to feature in this magazine. To have a news piece written about something you have com-ing up- be it a new record, a massive tour, something you’ve released that you want streamed, whatever- or to have something reviewed, just send an email.

WHAT ARE THE BALCONY SESSIONS?We work from an office with a balcony surrounded by stun-ning views of the cityscape around it. As the sun sets that view is absolutely fantastic, with beautiful architecture in ev-ery direction. We couldn’t waste that.

Every week we take performers outside for a professionally filmed and recorded acoustic session with great sound and visuals. Above is just one of those videos, you’ll find more on our website.

NEWS: pity sex stream trackIndie rock band, Pity Sex have launched a new song, ‘What Might Soothe You?’ from their album ‘White Hot Moon’, which is set to land some time next year. This song is available to stream through the Soundcloud of record label, Run For Cover Records.

This song is also being released as a 7” single with an etched b-side. Pre-order the vinyl edition of the track through Run For Cover Records website. Sean St. Charles, the drummer and lyricist of Pity Sex, shares his thoughts on the tune, “I was falling in love and life had begun to take on the hazy quality that it sometimes does. In those moments the line between what is possible and what feels possible goes askew. ‘What Might Soothe You?’ is a plea to the inaccessible other: ‘Come down here, stay with me, let the dream dissipate later.” Check it out via the image above. NEWS: cold snap release new videoThe video for song, ‘Monster’ certainly lives up to its reputation, and beyond, in what is a very dark and uncom-fortable video to watch, highlighting abuse to children, as the press release for the video states the band, are “mad as hell about child predators.”

Although the video is quite daring and brave on their part, they hope it will encourage people to speak out if need help, vocalist Jan Kerekes says: “In this video there is a lot of metaphors and symbolism”. The video is deliberately uncomfortable to watch. That’s the point, because it’s important to see the horror of what happened. Our intent is that this video will get people talking about this problem, and give someone the courage to step forward and speak out. If this video saves just one child, then we will be proud of what we’ve done here.”

The parents of the boys featured in the video gave permission to do so, and some were present on set during filming, creating a distressing atmosphere. However of course this only helps show the importance of the video, as children having to go experience this in real life are ashamed, uncomfortable and afraid, and unfortunately don’t always speak up. The sensitive video, which you can check out via the image above, was directed by Tin Majnaric at Alfa Film Studios in Zagreb, Croatia. CL

NEWS: mofoisdead release new singleThe band who describe their sound as ‘Moist Rock’ or ‘Goat-core’ have released a new single, ‘Born Shit Die’ taken from their upcoming EP, ‘Bris-neyland’. Yes you guessed it they’re Australian! The EP will be released on November 20th through MGM Distribution and the band state it will be “dis-tinctively eclectic”.

Fans of The Butterfly Effect may recognise frontman Paul’s Galagher vocals. An Interesting fact about this new single is that Paul wrote the lyrics in his psychiatrist’s chair when asked to write down his day’s thoughts. The EP will also feature an instrumental track, ‘Mournography’, which pays tribute to Paul’s best friend who sadly died during the making of the release. Be sure to check out this personal EP next month! Check out the track via the image above. CL

ep review: thelem-we aint the same (ft t-man)Thelem’s brand new and much anticipated We Ain’t The Same EP was just released on Artikal Music UK. The album features three 140 BPM bangers alongside three, sub-loaded 87 BPM tracks. The EP features T-Man, a Man-chester based MC who spits fire over the haunting and heavy pulses of Thelem’s productions.

In this EP, perfectly separated frequencies shoot through the speaker, collaborating to raise the tension and drop into bass-pumped, synthetic and dark atmospheres. A lot of the sounds are reminiscent of the style he started towards in his previous Haunted Harmonics EP, (Artikal Music UK, 28/04/2014). Many of the songs, like Get A Grip and Equippin’, have that melodic, detuned, fuzz pushed over the sub bass. Surrounding this focus sound are dangerous arpeggiations, delayed triplets and rattling percussion which both trips and keeps the beat’s pace.

As we’ve seen with Thelem in his previous Artikal EP, or if you’ve ever seen him live in the mix, you’ll know he’s prone to mixing in some mind-bending, sub-driven, drum and bass alongside the dubstep he’s best known for. This EP seems to have been split in that respect and three out of the six tracks are drum and bass. This could show a shift in direction for him. However, it is more likely something that he’s wanted to put out there for a while, which his live sets suggest.

There is an element of trap music in his basslines too. His dubstep tracks have that slow, bassy push to them. It was only natural that trap, which was formed of a combination of dubstep and a certain type of hip-hop, would eventually combine more heavily with dubstep. Thelem is currently pioneer-ing a seamless fusion of the two, generating an instantly recognisable sound in his tunes.

Thelem can be most often caught around the UK and following this release, I’m sure you’ll hear the likes of J:Kenzo, Piezo and Sleeper, alongside the rest of the Artikal crew, playing these wicked new tunes out and about. CM

NEWS: simple plan and nelly collab on new trackSimple Plan have always been well-loved for writing relatable and angsty pop-punk tracks that made you sing and sob along, while still managing to feel pret-ty good about yourself. It’s been four years since they released their last album, get Your Heart On!, thirteen since the fantastic No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls and three since their Summer Paradise collaboration with Sean Paul, but now they’re back with their second track of the year, I Don’t Want To Go To Bed.

The track, which features Nelly, is taken from the band’s long-awaited fifth al-bum, and sees the band move a little bit away from their tried and tested for-mula in favour of something a little bit more experimental.

The album is due to be released early next year. You can find their new track on Spotify. AN

NEWS: fall out boy and demi lovato release new trackFall Out Boy have taken yet another step away from the rock music genre that made them famous with their new single, a collaboration with Demi Lovato.

The track, which features the pop-sensation who is well-loved for the personal touch she gives her fans , is a reboot of Fall Out Boy’s American Beauty/Amer-ican Psycho song, Irresistible. Judging by some of the comments online, fans aren’t keen in the slightest. You can check out the video, which features Doug The Pug, via the image above. AN

NEWS: radkey release claymation videoMissouri rockers Radkey have released a crazy new claymation video for their new track Glore, taken from their recently released record, Dark Black Makeup.

Glore is a fast-paced and relentless punk track that harks us back to the glory days of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. It really makes us want to hunt down those SKATE letters again. The claymation video features the Radkey brothers meeting all sorts of mental and maniacal versions of instantly recognisable characters that soon, for some reason, end up bursting into bloody messes or transforming into game consoles. Check out the video above. AN

news: PROTEST THE HERO LAUNCH MUSIC SUBSCRIPTION SERVICEProtest The Hero have just released their brand new song, Ragged Tooth. The track is the first instalment on a new music subscription-style platform called Pacific Myth that uses Badcamp to deliver new songs and content directly to fans.

The service costs $15 a month and will feature new Protest The Hero songs on the 15th of each month for the next six months. Sound complicated? The band have explained things a little: “For a long time, we have been dreaming of a new way to bring you our music. We wanted something more direct than a standard album release and record cycle. After months of soul searching and a little bit of elbow grease, we proudly present to you “Pa-cific Myth” – our new subscription song and video platform. At it’s core, this is a ‘song a month’ platform which launches RIGHT NOW. We will be releasing a new song every month for 6 months, always on the 15th. In our opinion, this is the most direct way we can deliver you new tunes. We have chosen to lead things off this month with “Ragged Tooth” a cracking little banger of a song which we felt represented where we are headed with all of this. It’s important to note that every song release will be accompanied with an instrumental mix of the song as well as hi-res album art, lyrics, and liner notes.” Click the image above to be directed to the band’s Bandcamp. There you’ll find a little more information.

NEWS: twisted sister to play final showTwisted Sister have announced that they will be headlining Bloodstock festival next year as part of their farewell tour

The headline spot will be the band’s only UK stop on their Farewell 1976 – 2016 tour, so it’s not to be missed. Twisted Sister will play Friday night of the festival when it returns to Catton Park in Derbyshire August 11-14th. “Our journey in the UK that began in Wrexham in 1982, ends with Bloodstock 2016! Without the recognition that we received from our UK fans, the world would never have known nor would we ever have reached our 40 year milestone!” Fellow headliners Mastodon have already been announced, as well as Venom and Behemoth. There are loads more acts still to be unveiled. AN

NEWS: bullet for my valentine release new videoBullet For My Valentine have continued the narrative started in their video for You Want A Battle? (Here’s A War) with the new video for the title track of their most recent full-length album, Venom.

“Working with Bullet is a real pleasure. It is important for me to connect with the artist, their music and establish trust creatively,” says director Stuart Birchall. “After our first video I was very keen to continue the journey of the characters we established in taking the narrative in a fresh direction. The band and management were behind this 100%. We discussed taking a more cerebral tone with a darker subtext. Maeve O Connell (DOP) and myself wanted to take the cinematography in a different direction stylistically and the cast were all very keen to continue the story and journey we had started together.” Birchall adds, “It really is a great feeling when the plans come together, the crew across the board were all amazing with special mention to Jamie Whymark (Kode Media) for fighting to keep the vision on track. We hope this video takes people back to enjoy part 1 (‘You want a battle, Here’s a War’) again and of course I left room for a finale!” Check out the video above. AN

film review: the martianIf you like the idea of watching an isolated Matt Damon wander around a deso-late planet for two and half hours, then this is the film for you. However, if you’re like me and don’t have that in your ‘list of what makes films good’, then you will probably get quite bored, like me.

From the trailers and general overview of The Martian, we know that the film is about a man who is stuck on Mars for a long time. Spoiler alert! It really isn’t much more than that. Like a lot of books that have been made into films, it seems that the action and ideas are really much more suited for the written medium. You only see the character’s thoughts and feelings through their actions in film, but books allow the character’s mind to speak to you directly. I think that would work better for a guy who’s alone on Mars.

Matt Damon’s character, Mark Watney, constantly reels off jokes, which are sub-par. They feel far too geared towards knowing there’s a cinema audience sitting in front of them. Obviously, all films know that there’s an audience watching them (you would hope), but this one doesn’t do well in hiding the fact. Mark Watney reels off pop culture references and jokes about his situation just to keep you entertained, rather than himself. Obviously it’s meant to show how bright his attitude is in the face of danger, but it would be better if he were actually funny.

Not only that, but the film treats you like a fool. There were far too many mo-ments where complicated mathematics and space ship trajectories were ex-plained through the use of condiments and general stationary. I know I’m not a rocket scientist, but save me the floating staplers and whooshing noises, Ridley.

Ok, so there are some good elements to this film. The cinematography is stun-ning and if you want to see top budget renditions of the orange, endless and lifeless Mars, then you won’t be disappointed. Much of the film is spent overlook-ing the vast orange terrains with a classically sci-fi score from Harry Gregson-Wil-liams… and a lot of 70’s disco music (Guardians of the Galaxy appears to have started a trend). Another part, which I appreciated, was that there was no love interest! Finally Hollywood, you break one rule of your rigid film structure!

Those two points however, don’t make up for the boredom and sheer length of the film. But if you’re a fan of Matt Damon, then I’m sure you’ll find some joy in the dusty desert of Mars. CM

HOWLS-REST WELL

the lucid experiment- she's my melody

The song lingers over the pensive thoughts in its lyrics before reaching a new level of energy in the chorus, seething in a apparent frustration at the world’s current state of affairs. You can only applaud the worldly scope of the subject matter and how concise the thoughts and emotion behind it are. This band know what their message is and just how they want to communicate it.

wolf like child-wars

The song starts with a simple guitar rift that is carried on through much of the song, and immediately an asso-ciation with bands like Dire Straits is created. It’s very easy to get into the groove of the track and special credit has to be given to the extremely dynamic bassline that underscores majority of the song. Towards the mid-dle and end it morphs from a saharan sunset roadtrip track to an increasingly psy-chedelic experience, before ending with a comfortable descent back from outer space.

Rest Well was released early, as a little teaser of what the band had to offer. Packed with intense depth and emotion that builds ten-sion, the track takes head banging to a whole new level.
