In a recent press report, the ADA celebrated preliminary data released by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) that suggests a declining trend in early childhood cavities across the United States.
Presented at the Innovations in the Prevention and Treatment of Early Childhood Caries conference, the early analysis of the data suggests that more children are accessing dental care and receiving treatment for dental disease.
The preliminary analysis was established using a representative sample of the American population and the CDC’s 2011-2012 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey's longitudinal health statistics. According to the CDC, the data reflects an increase in cavity treatment in preschool children over the last decade.
The ADA stated that it was encouraged
by data showing fewer cases of
untreated youth tooth decay, but
emphasized the ongoing importance of
disease prevention efforts and dental
health education.
