Today’s second reading calls wives to be “subordinate” to their husbands and to the husbands to love their wives in imitation to Christ and the Church. In reality these forms represent the same. We must take into account the meaning of the word “subordinate” in ancient Greek. We should also see the use of it, its context, and the intention of the writer in using it. The common use of the word “subordinate” in our current culture describes it as a submitted state, subjugated, and even oppressed. Many men have misinterpreted this concept in an effort to manipulate and control their wives. To subjugate is not to love, is to control. Therefore, we must come to a new understanding of the word. In Spanish we say “Cuando se ama de veras se da el corazón”. It means, when you really love you give your heart away. As you give your heart away it becomes prisoner of the object of your affection. When you love to aim, to please, you strive to put the beloved one needs first. Your will is at the service of your other half. You become subordinated. In a true relationship, a relationship of equals, subordination and love are simultaneous and reciprocal. It is the glue that keeps the matrimony together. The result is the becoming of one flesh, one will, and one heart. Therefore, husbands cherish your wives! Remember that they are your own flesh. Who else would do so if you were not the first one’s setting the example? Many times our local current culture gets in the way of this. As Christians we are to go against those cultural ideologies that promote division, oppression, hurt, and an indemnifying way of living. On this occasion I am talking about machismo and ultra-feminism. As men we must not consider ourselves as superior to women. If you do so, you better think again. You must get rid of this chauvinism and learn how to really love and honor them. As women, never consider your essence as lesser of a man. If you do so, you better get smart. You should stand up straight and remind yourself that you are also God’s creation and he doesn’t create mistakes. As men and women we should imitate Christ in his love for humanity and for the Church. He loved humanity so much that he allowed himself to be handed over for the forgiveness of sins. He also loved the Church that he became the sacrifice to cleanse it and to allow her to be the source of light and the splendor for the world. But, isn’t this what you do when you love? You do everything possible to let the other half shine. This is hard. Indeed difficult if we believe that we can do it by ourselves. In the Gospel lies the key to this dilemma. We believe that we have the word of eternal life. And who is the word of eternal life? Jesus the Christ. In Jesus we find the model of the person who gives himself away for his brothers and sisters. Through Jesus, we shall live forever as we eat his flesh and drink his blood. Christ at this mass invites you again to follow him and to share his love with all. We shall begin in our households and in the way we treat our spouses! Lord, where else shall we go? You have the words of eternal life!

La segunda lectura de hoy llama a las esposas a estar "subordinadas" a sus maridos y a los maridos para amar a sus esposas en imitación a Cristo y la Iglesia. En realidad, estas formas representan lo mismo. Debemos tener en cuenta el significado de la palabra "subordinado" en griego antiguo. Cuando entregas tu corazón, se convierte en prisionero del objeto de tu afecto. Cuando te encanta pretender, complacer, te esfuerzas por poner al amado primero. Tu voluntad está al servicio de tu otra mitad. Te vuelves subordinado. En una relación verdadera, una relación de iguales, subordinación y amor

es simultánea y recíproca. Es el pegamento que mantiene el matrimonio unido. El resultado es el devenir de una carne, una voluntad y un corazón. ¡Por lo tanto, los esposos amen a sus esposas! Recuerda que son tu propia carne. ¿Quién más lo haría si no

fueras el primero en establecer el ejemplo? Muchas veces nuestra cultura actual local se interpone en este camino. Como cristianos, debemos ir en contra de las ideologías culturales que promueven la división, la opresión, el dolor y una forma de vida indemnizada. En esta ocasión estoy hablando de machismo y ultra feminismo. Como hombres, no debemos considerarnos superiores a las mujeres. Si lo haces, será mejor que pienses otra vez. Debes deshacerte de este chauvinismo y aprender a amarlos y honrarlos de verdad. Como mujeres, nunca consideres tu esencia como un hombre inferior. Si lo haces, será mejor que lo

vuelvas a pensar. Debes ponerte de pie y recordar que tú también eres la creación de Dios y él no crea errores. Como hombres y mujeres, debemos imitar a Cristo en su amor por la humanidad y por la Iglesia. Amó tanto a la humanidad que

permitió que lo entregaran para el perdón de los pecados. También amaba a la Iglesia porque se convirtió en el sacrificio para limpiarla y permitirle ser la fuente de luz y el esplendor del mundo. Pero, ¿Acaso no es esto lo que haces cuando amas? Haces todo lo posible para que tu otra mitad brille también. Esto es duro. De hecho, es difícil si creemos que lo podemos hacer por nosotros mismos. En el Evangelio se encuentra la clave de este dilema. Creemos que tenemos la palabra de la vida eterna. ¿Y quién es la palabra de la vida eterna? Jesucristo. En Jesús encontramos el modelo de la persona que se entrega a sí mismo para sus hermanos y hermanas. Por medio de Jesús, viviremos para siempre mientras comemos su carne y bebemos su sangre. Cristo en esta misa te invita nuevamente a seguirlo y compartir su amor con todos. ¡Comenzaremos en nuestros hogares y en la forma en que tratamos a nuestros cónyuges! Señor, ¿a dónde vamos a ir? ¡Tú tienes las palabras de la vida eterna!

Excerpt about Christ in the Classroom: Lesson Planning for the Heart and Mind by Jared Dees. (source: The Catechist’s Toolbox) If the goal of catechesis is to cultivate an encounter with Christ, why do religious educators spend so much time focused almost exclusively on ideas and not experiences? The reason is that many have never been shown a method that inspires the heart while also instructing the mind. Jared Dees, creator of the popular website The Religion Teacher, shows how applying the steps of lectio divina to teaching can reorient religious education toward encountering the person of Christ rather than merely sharing information about him. In Christ in the Classroom, Catholic author and speaker Jared Dees applies the five steps of lectio divina—reading/learning, meditation, prayer, contemplation, and action—to the ministry of catechesis. He offers teachers and catechists a practical framework for preparing lessons that broaden the focus of teaching from mostly intellectual learning to also encountering Christ in prayer, reflection, and action. Using this method, students and catechists come to know intimately the person of Christ at the same time that they are learning the tenets and traditions of the Church. Dees shares stories of success and failure from his own teaching experience and he offers dozens of field-tested strategies, tactics, and teaching methods to effectively integrate the steps of lectio divina into the classroom or other catechetical setting.

To register for First Communion you need to be in 1st Grade. This is a 2 year sacramental preparation program.

To register for Confirmation you need to be in 7th grade. This is a 2 year sacramental preparation program.

If your child is 7 years of age or older and has not been baptized, they need to register into the CCD program. During the first year of preparation, they will receive their Baptism.

Only Parents can register their Child. There is a $20 non-refundable registration fee. Must bring the Birth Certificate or the Baptismal Certificate of the child being registered.
