Did you know?! In 1599, a Spanish Governor in early Colonial Ecuador was

executed by having molten gold poured down his throat.

Prospectors would use

gold panning to both

find the gold in creeks

and streams, as well as

to recover it. As the

pan moved in circles,

muddy water and sand

would float out of the

pan, with the much

heavier gold

remaining at the

bottom of the pan.

Gold in the news! Ghana Gold Mining and Exploration

Amanda Kay - August 1st, 2018 Gold mining isn’t Ghana’s biggest claim to fame, but the country is Africa’s second-

largest gold producer. Plus it hosts more estimated reserves than key gold-producing

countries like Peru and Papua New Guinea. Those factors make gold mining in Ghana

a pursuit with great potential. In fact, Southern Ghana has been considered one of the

world’s most prolific regions for gold discoveries for some time, with both gold

producers and explorers enjoying success there. Ghana gold also stacks up in terms of

production — as mentioned, it’s Africa’s second-biggest producer of the metal. In 2016,

it produced a 40-year high of 4.13 million ounces.

Global Gold Mining Expected To Remain Stable In 2019

Allen Sykora Global gold production is expected to be somewhat stable in 2019, with one

analytical firm forecasting a fall of half a percentage point and another looking

for a rise of less than that. The GFMS team at Refinitiv projected 2019 gold

production will ease to 3,265.5 tonnes from an estimated 3,281.7 for 2018. “On

balance, we think it will contract by one-half percent,” said analyst Johann

Wiebe. Meanwhile, the consultancy Metals Focus sees global gold mine

production edging higher by 0.2% in 2019 to a new record of 107.6 million ounces.

GFMS looks for output to rise in Africa, Australia-Oceania and Europe. However,

production is seen decreasing in Asia, South America and North America.

“There’s not going to be any major mine closures,” Wiebe said. “There’s going to

be a couple of instances where we have lower grades having an effect on

production.”
