• If you are a proactive person you are “response-able”. This means you don’t blame others for what happens to you. You choose your behaviour.

Reactive:Something should be done about it.Pro-active:I’m going to solve this issue.

Reactive:If only I had enough money, I would buy a new Playstation.Proactive:I want to buy a new Playstation, now how can I get the money for it?

• There can be many obstacles to achieving a goal. What has kept you from accomplishing a goal in the past? Fear? Time? Motivation? Lack of practice? Disorganization?

Habit #4: Think Win-Win

“Instead of playing to win, I was playing not to lose. It reminds me of the story I once heard about two friends being chased by a bear, when one turned to the other and said, "I just realized that I don't need to outrun the bear; I only need to outrun you.”

Case Study

Kim is a third-grade student. She has been having trouble in math, and tomorrow there is a big test. While she is in the living room studying for this test and trying to work out some problems, her little brother, Marshall, comes in from school. Marshall, who is in the first grade, has had a hard day at school, so he wants to have some fun and relax. He turns on some music and begins to sing and dance around. Kim wants quiet, and the music is disturbing her. They argue.
