Concert Band An active conductor and clarinetist, Matthew M. Marsit has led ensembles and performed as a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician throughout the United States. Currently on the artistic staff of the Hopkins Center for the Performing Arts at Dartmouth College as Director of Bands, Matthew also serves as the Music Director of the Charles River Wind Ensemble in Boston. Matthew has previously held conducting positions at Ithaca College, Cornell University, Drexel University, Symphony Nova, the Chestnut Hill Orchestra, the Bucks County Youth Ensembles, the Performing Arts Institute of Wyoming Seminary and the Eastern US Music Camp. As a clarinetist, Matthew has performed with many ensembles including the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Fairmont Chamber Orchestra, Cornell University’s “Ensemble X” and has made solo

appearances with the Keene State University University Symphony Band, the Dartmouth College Wind Ensemble, the Handel society at Dartmouth and the Chestnut Hill Orchestra. Matthew has served as clarinet faculty at Plymouth State University and now maintains a small studio of private students in and around Hanover, NH. A native of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Matthew moved first to Philadelphia to complete his studies in music at Temple University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, where he studied clarinet with Anthony Gigliotti and Ronald Reuben and conducting with Luis Biava and Arthur Chodoroff. Additionally, Mathew has studied conducting with some of the world’s most prominent instructors and holds a graduate degree in Orchestral Conducting from The Boston Conservatory.

Orchestra Adam Kerry Boyles is a dynamic and versatile conductor, and a notable figure in the musical life of New England. Boyles is currently Director of Orchestras at MIT, Assistant Conductor of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and Music Director Emeritus of the Brookline Symphony Orchestra. Previous Music Director positions include three seasons with the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra, five seasons with MetroWest Opera, and five summers as a conductor at Opera in the Ozarks. Boyles served on the faculty at The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Arizona. Recent guest engagements include concerts with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island All-

State Orchestra, Charlottesville Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island College, Grand Harmonie, and Manhattan School of Music. Boyles also served as a cover conductor with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra in 2007. An accomplished vocalist, Boyles performed in numerous operas with the Indiana University Opera Theater, and in Arizona Opera’s first complete presentation of Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen. He has sung with many professional choral ensembles across the country such as Conspirare, Apollo’s Voice, Mon Choeur, Cantique, and the Tucson Chamber Artists. In 2010, Boyles was featured as a guest soloist with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus. Boyles received his Doctor of Music in Orchestral Conducting degree from The University of Texas at Austin, his Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting degree from The University of Arizona, and his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance degree from Indiana University.

Jazz Ensemble Terry White is a retired music educator who has taught instrumental music at all levels for over 35 years. He retired from the Cape Elizabeth School District in 2010. Presently, he composes and arranges for many groups throughout the country. He has written for many idioms including the Portland Symphony Orchestra, marching band, jazz ensemble and concert band. His music has been performed at the Mid West Clinic in Chicago, the Illinois Music Educators Conference and is listed in several states’ festival lists. Terry’s music has also been reviewed in the Instrumentalist, the IAJE Journal and also Teaching Music Through Performance in Jazz for Beginning Ensembles. Many of his publications have been selected for J.W.Pepper’s Editor’s Choice list annually. Terry is the brass arranger for the Colt Cadets DCI Drum Corps in Dubuque, Iowa

Originally from Falmouth, ME., Terry received a B.M in Composition from Berklee College of Music and a M.S. in Music Education from the University of New Hampshire. He has studied composition with John Bavicchi, Hugo Norden and Herb Pomeroy. As a performer Terry began with the Don Doane Big Band while still in high school and continued with the band as trumpet player and writer until 1984. Terry continued with his own big band for several years releasing a cd entitled “This Note’s For You” and presently writes for the Portland Jazz Orchestra and numerous other jazz ensembles throughout New England. He is an active adjudicator and festival conductor.

Chorus Dr. Stephen A. Paparo is Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and conductor of the University Chorale He holds degrees form Michigan State University, Syracuse University, and Ithaca College, and is a Guild Certified Practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method of somatic education. As a former public school teacher, he taught junior and senior high choral music for ten years in New Hartford, New York, and earned National Board Certification in 2002. Dr. Paparo is active as a guest conductor and has conducted honors choirs in Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. He has presented at international, national, and state conferences, including International Symposium on Performance Science, The Phenomenon of Singing International Symposium, Suncoast Music Education Research Symposium, and American Choral Directors Association Eastern Division Conference. He is President for the Massachusetts

chapter for the American Choral Directors Association, and has previous served as Student Activities Chair.

His research interests include the application of the Feldenkrais Method to singing instruction in the choral setting, non-traditional choral ensembles, such as contemporary collegiate a cappella, virtual choirs, and circle singing groups, and LGBTQ studies in music education. He is published in Bulletin for the Council of Research in Music Education, International Journal of Music Education, and Music Education Research, and has a chapter, “Circle singing: Composing Improvisation and Improvising Composition” in Musicianship: Composing in Choir, published by GIA. His compositions, “Sing in Harmony!” and “A Musical Pun-ology”, for beginning choirs are published by Alfred Music.
