Welcome! WELCOME! Welcome to the 18th annual National Homeschool Volleyball Tournament! We are delighted to have all our returning organizations, and we would like to extend a special welcome to these new participants:

Central Nebraska Falcons – from Trumbull, NebraskaCentral NE Christian Volleyball – from Hastings, Nebraska

KCT Tumbleweeds – from Kansas City, KansasSUMMIT Volleyball Club – from Escanaba, Michigan

Lapeer Lakers – from Lapeer, MichiganHouston Mavericks - from Conroe, Texas

Over the last seventeen years, our records show that over 434 teams across the nation have participated; approximately 4500 athletes have played in four different venues in Omaha. We have gone from word of mouth & phone calls, to mailing lists, to email, and now the web—Facebook included. We are the longest lasting National Homeschool Volleyball tournament in the country. A Little NHSVBT Trivia:In 1999, the first National tournament was held with 8 teams represented. Of the original eight teams, three are represented again this year. HCYA, TexasLittle Rock Flames, ARMetro (Omaha) Warriors, NE We look forward to seeing how the tournament will develop in the future. But it is you - the coaches, players, and parents who have worked hard to become successful on the court this season, and it is you who deserves the recognition. As parents of homeschool athletes, we know the cost and want to thank you for your sacrifices. In respect for your hard work, we thank you for coming to Omaha and want you to know that we will work hard to make this event a great experience for you and your girls. Most of all we hope to bring honor and glory to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To that end, please do not hesitate to let us know how we can serve you. We pray that your stay in Omaha will be a most blessed and memorable time. Good Luck to all the teams! Let’s all play FOR HIM!Pam Stander, for the Metro Warrior BoardNHSVBT Director

WARM-UPS

Warm ups will be 3-3-1. Three minutes each for individual team time and then one minute of shared serving

time.

OFFICIATING TEAM

POOL PLAY: The team labeled “Lines” will provide trained and competent line judges, scorekeeper, libero

tracker and clock operator for the designated match. If a team scheduled to provide court help is late for the

assigned time, that team will lose 1 point in their next scheduled set for every minute they are late, up to 25

points. Please report for duty to the referee immediately following your played match. For all other first

matches, please arrive 15 minutes early.

BRACKET PLAY:

In the Gold tournament all court workers will be provided. In the Silver tournament, all games on the winning

side of the brackets will have court workers provided. On the losing side of the brackets, teams will be assigned

to provide court workers for the game that follows on their court. Refer to the Master Court Schedule for

assignments. In the Bronze tournaments, losing teams will officiate for later games. The team assigned to do lines

will provide trained and competent line judges, scorekeeper, libero tracker and clock operator for the

designated match. If a team scheduled to provide court help is late for the assigned time, that team will lose 1

point in their next scheduled set for every minute they are late, up to 25 points. Please report for duty to the

referee immediately following your played match or 15 minutes before a match in the morning. Please be aware

that if you lose a game, you will most likely work at the next game on your court.

COIN TOSS

Teams will be designated home or visitor. The referee will designate one team “heads” and the other team

“tails”, and will toss the coin. The winner of the coin toss will have the choice of “serve”, “receive”, or choice of

court. The serving team for the match will have the first court during the warm-pus. Teams will not be designated

“home” or “visitor” on the scoreboard, but the score will correspond to which team is on which side of the court.

JV/VARSITY ROSTER SUBSTITUTION

Any changes to your roster must be turned into the tournament director by the end of the coach's meeting on

Wednesday evening of the tournament. However, due to adding the JV tournament this year, we are adding a

different aspect of that. A player can move from a JV roster to Varsity during the tournament, only if they replace

a player that has been removed from the varsity roster due to injury or illness. Once they move they can no

longer play on the JV and the player they replace on varsity can no longer play varsity. This would help ensure

that no varsity team ended up playing short due to an injury/illness that disables a player.

GENERAL RULES 1. All player substitutes and assistant coaches must be seated on the team bench. The head coach may stand. If

there is room for statisticians or photographers to be seated, they can remain on the bench. If there is not

enough sitting room, they must sit in the spectator areas. 2. There are racks provided for players to store their bags. Please ensure all bags are placed in the proper area

and not in the spectator areas. 3. Sport Court Rule -- When serving the ball, a player must be on the playing surface during the entire service

action. Non-playable areas are all areas beyond the sport court. If the ball goes into the free zone, a player may

continue to play the ball. If the ball goes beyond the free zone (off the sport court above the secondary surface),

the player must contact the ball while a body part is in contact with the playable area. After playing the ball, a

player’s momentum may carry him/her off the playing surface without penalty.

Friday, November 5, 2016 8:00 AM

Three (AA, BB and CC) 5-team pools will play two sets to 25 starting at 4. Must win by 2 points. The AA, BB and CC pools will consist of the 1st and 2nd place teams from each of the 7 pools on Thursday; as well as the TOP 3rd place finisher from Thursday. This top 3rd place finisher will be determined based on the following:1) Win-loss record2) The larger point differential (points scored minus points given up for Thursday’s pool sets). The team(s) with the higher point differential will be placed higher.3) The least points allowed4) Coin toss 8:00 AM

Three (DD, EE, FF) 4-team pools will play two sets to 25 starting at 4. Must win by 2 points. The DD, EE and FF pools will be consist of the lower six 3rd place teams from pool A - G as well as 4th place teams in Pools B – G. See Round 2 Pool Schedule.

For determining placement into brackets, we will first look at pool play W-L record. · If two teams hold the same pool play W-L record:o We will look at the head to head results of the team's’ pool sets.o If the teams split, we will then place the team with the least points allowed during the head to head pool play in the higher position.o If they are still tied, then we will look at pool play point differential (points scored minus points given up for all pool sets). The team(s) with the higher point differential will be placed higher.o If teams are still tied after all this, there will be a coin flip. · If three teams hold the same W-L record:o We will look at pool play point differential (points scored minus points given up for all pool sets). The team(s) with the higher point differential will be placed higher.o If any teams are still tied at this point, we will put the head-to-head winner of their last pool play match in higher place.o If they split, the team with the least points allowed during the head to head pool play will be placed higher.o If any teams are still tied after all this, there will be a coin flip.

Tournament Bracket Play Format

This year’s varsity tournament bracket play will consist of 3 divisions: Gold, Silver and Bronze. The format ensures that all teams play at least 2 matches in tournament bracket play. Teams will be placed into the brackets based on their finish in Friday’s Pool Play. For example, if a team finishes 2nd in Friday’s BB pool play they will be placed in the BB 2 spot in the Gold Bracket. To help ensure that teams will not have to replay a team that they just played in pool play, we will place the other team from the same pool that qualified for bracket play on the other side of the bracket. For example, a team that finishes 1st in pool play will be on the opposite side of the bracket of the team that finish 2nd in the same pool. See the brackets below for specifics on how teams will be placed into tournament matches. Beginning Friday 4:30 PMThe Gold division tournament will proceed as a 9 team bracket made up of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams from Round 2 pool play pools AA, BB, and CC. There will be a “Play in” game to determine the 8th team of the quarter-finals game. Gold division tournament play in the play-in, quarter-finals, semi-finals and championship final will be best 3 out of 5 (scored 1 to 25). Game 5 will be scored 1-15. All other play will be best 2 out of 3 (scored 1 to 25). Game 3 will be scored 1 to 15. Friday 5:00 PMThe Silver division tournament will proceed with a 9 team bracket made up of the 4th and 5th place finishers from Round 2 pool play pools AA, BB, and CC as well as the 1st place finishers Round 2 pool play pools DD, EE and FF. All Silver tournament matches will be best 2 out of 3 (scored 1 to 25). Game 3 will be scored 1 to 15. Friday 5:00 PMThe Bronze tournament will be a 9 team bracket made up of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams from the Round 2 pool play from pools DD, EE, and FF. All Bronze tournament matches will be best 2 out of 3 (scored 1 to 25). Game 3 will be scored 1 to 15.

● If two teams hold the same pool play W-L record:o We will look at the head to head results of the teams’ pool sets.o If the teams split, we will then place the team with the least points allowed during the head to head pool play in the higher position.o If they are still tied, then we will look at pool play point differential (points scored minus points given up for all pool sets). The team(s) with the higher point differential will be placed higher.o If teams are still tied after all this, there will be a coin flip.

● If three teams hold the same W-L record:

o We will look at pool play point differential (points scored minus points given up for all pool sets).
