STORY OF THANKSGIVINGThe story of Thanksgiving starts with the Pilgrims. The Pilgrims were people who left England and came to America in 1620, because they wanted to practice their religion freely.

STORY OF THANKSGIVINGThe Pilgrims did not know how to grow food and how to hunt in America.

They also did not know how to build strong homes. They were very cold.

STORY OF THANKSGIVINGOver half of the Pilgrims died in the winter of 1620, because they did not know how to survive in America.

STORY OF THANKSGIVINGThe Native Americans are people who lived in America before anyone else.

In the spring of 1621 some Native Americans started to help the Pilgrims grow food and make homes.

STORY OF THANKSGIVINGThe Native Americans showed the Pilgrims how to grow: pumpkin, squash and corn.

STORY OF THANKSGIVINGThe Native Americans also showed the Pilgrims how to hunt turkey.

STORY OF THANKSGIVINGIn the fall of 1621 the Pilgrims had a lot of food to help them survive the next winter.

STORY OF THANKSGIVINGThe Pilgrims wanted to give thanks to the Native Americans for their help. They shared their food with the Native Americans at a big meal the first Thanksgiving celebration!
