OUR DREAM TEAM ENSURES THAT EVERY DREAM WE FULFIL IS A UNIQUE ONE-OF-A-KIND MASTERPIECE, JUST LIKE THE CHILDREN WHO RECEIVE THEM.
The Reach For A Dream Foundations primary purpose, embedded in our hearts and minds, is to continuously provide hope to children fighting life-threating illnesses 365 days of the year.
We achieve this through the fulfilment of their dreams – which we have been doing since 1988.
When a child is faced with a life-threatening illness, the impact that a dream coming to fruition has on their wellbeing is overwhelming. Studies have shown that a larger percentage of children survive life-threatening illnesses compared to that of adults. One of the reasons for this, is that children simply have not learnt what the term life-threatening means, they live each day as it is given to them.
The fulfilment of these dreams inspires hope and courage in the dreamer and helps them believe that tomorrow is worth fighting for.
Fulfilling dreams enables children to experience the fun side of life which they often miss out on as a result of their illness. The positive effect of a dream lingers, often leading to a better response to their medication.
These children, between the ages of three and 18 years, have used their dreams to fight illnesses such as cancer, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, kidney failure, blood disorders and heart conditions.
In addition to individual dreams, our projects enable us to work with groups of children and their families, all of which allows us to reach over 42 000 children each year.
The Reach For A Dream Foundation relies solely on donor funding and public support to ensure the success of its’ initiatives.
Every dream is a masterpiece
To inspire every child to believe in the power of dreams!

Our Vision
To give hope to all children fighting life-threatening illnessesthrough the fulfilment of their dreams.
We will work tirelessly to encourage children to use theirdreams to fight life-threatening illnesses and as far as possiblewe will make their dreams come true.
Dear Friends,
Welcome to our 31st Annual Report. As a charity organisation in South Africa, which depends on the generosity ofour corporates and individuals this is an astonishing accomplishment. For 31 years the Foundation has impacted the lives of children, moms, dads and their families, and we have made more dreams come true beyond even our wildest imagination.
In 2019 we fulfilled 1684 dreams!
We built 14 spectacular “Dream Rooms” in hospitals in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town, that offer a sanctuary for our brave children while receiving treatment. The rooms are brightly and comfortably furnished, with TV’s, games, books and other activities for the children to enjoy.
In order to ensure the upkeep and continuing utilisation of the “Dream Rooms”, we will host appropriate events and activities for our children together with our sponsors. We are sincerely grateful for allthe donors who have built rooms, fulfilled
dreams and voluntarily given so generously of their time.
Thank you to our dedicated board members, staff members, volunteers and stakeholders who ensure that every dream is magical and that the enriching work we do touches lives and builds memories forever. To our donors who give monetary or in-kind support, thank you for all your generous support, despite the economic constraints that we face.
Thank you to every individual who pedalled in the Argus, Cape Town Cycle Challenge and joined our team of Dream Riders, as well as every South African who supported Slipper Day, by purchasing a wristband and wearing slippers on the day. Thank you to everyone who is part of the Reach For A Dream family.
Our theme for 2020 is STRENGTH, and it is our fervent hope that Reach For A Dream goes from strength to strength, as we fulfil more dreams and make more special memories, for our children and their families, in our 4th decade.
Love Julia.
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERCHAIRMAN
Dear Friends of the Foundation,
When we celebrated 30 years of enriching the lives of life-threatened children the year was jam packed with a series of events and activities each of which was not only successful but further entrenched our brand. The year culminated in us having achieved donor support the likes of which we had never previously experienced.
We were also able to announce the proposed launch of what was to become the new and exciting Dream Room Project.
We commenced our 31st year with a sense of trepidation, uncertain as to how we could improve on our accomplishments achieved during the previous celebratory year.
It is with great pride that I am able to share with you that 2019 was truly remarkable. We achieved a record number of dreams which remains the cornerstone of the work that we do. We also developed and launched our first 9 Dream Rooms in some of South Africa’s largest medical hospitals and with Dis-chem having joined Wimpy and
Pick n Pay, accomplished truly sensational brand exposure as well as record revenue generated from our 11th Slipper Day event.
I am constantly in awe of the accomplishments of the dedicated team under Julia’s tutorship and I want to publicly express my admiration and appreciation to our wonderful Board of Directors all of whom are volunteers representing a cross section of some of South Africa’s premiere businesses.
Thank you fellow South Africans for your support and for enabling us to instil hope and many wonderous miracles.
Sincerely
Mervyn H Serebro

A RUSH OF ADRENALINE, A DAY OF FUN AND A MEMORABLE ADVENTURE!
These are the things that define a day spent at Captain Courage. Boys with life-threatening illnesses face adventure head on with smiles that cannot be contained and a spirit that cannot be suppressed.
Each boy receives a Medal of Courage and a Certificate of Bravery reminding him that he has the ability to overcome any obstacle, including his illness.

A DAY OF PAMPERING, BEAUTY ANDSELF CONFIDENCE.
It is every young girls dream to become a princess. With the rigorous treatments and side effects like hair loss this “dream” often becomes a distant memory. Our Queen For A day project helps to remind young girls of their beauty no matter their illness or how it has affected their appearance.
Each princess is crowned Queen For a Day and treated to limousines, manicures, pedicures and makeovers. With a professional photographer there to capture the joy that fills every moment of this day.
JOY, SUNSHINE AND LAUGHTER.
Children with life-threating illnesses, often face limited social interaction with their peers while undergoing treatment.
Camp Sunshine gives them the opportunity to socialise, nurture their confidence and above allhave fun.

FAMILY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT INFLUENCE IN A CHILD’S LIFE.
From the time of diagnosis, a family’s reality changes, often leading to strained relationships.
Our Family Focus weekends were designed to help families develop new relationships and friendships. The whole family are pampered and given the opportunity to experience some form ofnormality, albeit for a brief period.

2219LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE
This adage holds true in the hospitals where the wards are filled with laughter thanks to the Jabulani Kingdom Entertainers. Laughter strengthens the immune system, boosts energy, minimises lethargy and decreases stress.
A few minutes of sheer fun helps to detract from the pain and discomfort of the child in thehospital ward.

A SAFE SANCTUARY FOR OUR BRAVE CHILDREN IN HOSPITAL.Dream Rooms are dedicated spaces in hospitals for children who are facing life-threatening illnesses and undergoing treatment. They are sanctuaries for the brave children and parents who need a safe place to relax in hospital and escape their clinical surroundings. Families will have the opportunity to spend time in bright and colourful area’s that inspire hope. Eventually, there will be 50 such rooms in hospitals which provide critical care to children with life-threatening illnesses.
To date we have proudly opened nine Dream Rooms at Chris Hani Baragwanath, Charlotte Maxeke, Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria, Donald Gordon Medical Centre and the Red Cross Childrens Hospital in Cape Town. Proudly sponsored by Vukile Property Fund, Standard Bank, Comair Limited (Kulula), Emperors Palace, Big Concerts, Discovery Vitality, RMHC, The Miller Family, Truworths and The Travel Group.
Thank you to Pieter from Alive Architects and Sandra from Wall Creations for ensuring that our Dream Rooms are beautifully decorated.
