LEADING BY EXAMPLECombined with a strong U.S. market presence and experience working with the Department of Defense, Thales can be a highly credible contributor to the STOC II program.

THALES IN THE UNITED STATESOver 100 years of history and operations supporting industry and the

Department of Defense.

Thales specializes in Defense, Aerospace, Training, Simulation, Services, and Security markets worldwide. Today, Thales’ global multi-domestic strategy has led to a U.S. presence that consists of 14 primary locations in 10 states, and nearly 3,000 employees. In recent years, Thales has expanded its operation in the U.S. to focus on a wider range of market segments. By leveraging domestic and overseas Thales capabilities, the company is able to focus its US business interests in the Land Forces, Naval, Military and Commercial Aviation, Space, Security, and Transportation domains.

Tank SimulatorThales’ Tank Crew Training Simulators provide a detailed replica of the crewmember positions. They are equipped with an “out of the window” visualdisplay system, which provides the crew with a visual scene through the hatch and through periscopes. They are mounted on specially designed motion platforms, which provide realistic motion cues without inducing motion sickness. These factors, when combined with simulated tactical and cultural environments, provide highly realistic battlefield training.

THALES GLOBAL OVERVIEW Thales is a leading supplier of professional electronics systems for both defense and civil applications. Globally Thales Group employs 68,000 people in 50 countries, generating revenues of $19.1B in 2007.

With a strong commitment to research and innovation, Thales steps up to the security challenges of its customers in an increasingly interconnected, technology-driven world. Thales recognizes that civil and military systems can benefit from many of the same technologies and innovations. Maximizing its global network of 22,000 high-level researchers, Thales has come to the forefront in the development of these dual technologies. By leveraging a global presence and capabilities that span the entire value chain, from prime contracting to equipment, Thales plays a pivotal role in making the world a safer place.

THALES TRAINING & SIMULATION GLOBAL EXPERIENCEHaving pioneered simulation technology for over 50 years, Thales systems provide the

most advanced simulation training in the most realistic environments.

Thales’ global presence is well represented in the area of Training and Simulation, with experience in the simulation of aircraft, including fixed wing and rotary, land vehicles, infantry small arms trainers, and synthetic environments. Thales has developed training technology and systems to meet the training needs of over 30 military services, including the U.S. Air Force. In addition, Thales supports the Air, Ground, and Naval forces of NATO countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Norway, and non-NATO countries such as Australia. Thales also provides integrated and networked training solutions to many other customers worldwide.

In its 50 years of experience supporting military forces, Thales has acquired a unique understanding of how these forces train, deploy, operate and fight. By listening to the users requirements, Thales has developed the expertise to support the introduction of challenging, realistic and demanding training systems that are adaptable to evolving joint and coalition network centric operations.

ADVANCED TRAINING FOR THE MODERN WARFIGHTER

Keeping our warfightersa step ahead.Thales understands that training environments need to be realistic and demanding. Personnel need to train the same way that they will operate when conducting real missions. Among its business priorities, Thales has a thorough understanding of the importance of dual-use technologies and interoperable solutions. Drawing upon expertise from its diverse business activities across several domains, Thales is leading the way with regard to the networking of simulators that are in operation today. Thales is active in working with the armed forces to support mission rehearsal and is a pioneer in the establishment of advanced collective training. By listening to the end-user’s experiences and applying the knowledge gained from these interactions, Thales engineers are able to analyze, design, develop, field and sustain successful and

effective training systems.

ASLAV SimulatorThe Australian Light Armored Vehicle (ASLAV) Simulator provides an exceedingly realistic, challenging, fully immersive environment in which the soldier can train either individually or in full tactical cooperative scenarios. This is achieved by the use of COTS PC-based technology, state of the art visual system technology, sophisticated simulation software and a highly detailed and realistic synthetic environment.

TOTAL SIMULATION SOLUTIONSThales’ capabilities are directly aligned to STOC II requirements. Thales’ primary training and simulation capabilities lie in the following areas:

• Front end analysis, design, development, fielding and sustainment of simulation systems for a complete military portfolio.

• Extensive experience in developing and maintaining systems for fixed wing aircraft, helicopters, land vehicles, naval platforms, small arms trainers and close combat tactics trainers – including the associated weaponry and systems embedded within their increasingly complex operational environment.

• Skilled in the creation of Interoperable Training Solutions and Distributed Mission Operations.

• Demonstrated ability to assemble “best in breed” teams and the practice of Industrial Participation and Supplier Diversity.

• Dedication to continual research and development and dual-use technologies through a global corporate commitment.

• Development of sophisticated training environments that include a compilation of Live, Virtual, and Constructive technologies.

• Introduction of a new concept to the training domains referred to as Versatile Training Systems, allowing the U.S. Army and other services to employ “Train as you Fight” methodologies, thus improving operational effectiveness and survivability.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENTResearch and development are the lifeblood of any high-tech organization. For Thales, technological excellence is a key driver of competitive performance in every market the company serves. Innovation is central to corporate strategy and is an integral part of the organization’s genetic code. Thales’ commitment to technology includes an annual investment in excess of $3 billion, representing 17% of our annual revenues. Thales employs 22,000 R&D engineers worldwide and has more than 250 patent applications filed annually.

Thales’ commitment to technology and its subsequent application provides ongoing technology insertion into our products and services, ensuring they remain competitive. It also provides Thales with capabilities in the modeling and simulation, integration, and management of highly complex technical ventures, including our involvement with Technology Incubation Organizations. In the field of simulation, this is particularly true. Advances in electronics hardware, middleware, and software applications, largely driven by the commercial games industry, are providing many new complementary opportunities. Thales recognizes that advances in technology are continually reshaping the simulation industry. We are active in integrating these technological advances where possible to ensure Thales remains an industry leader in simulation solutions.

PARTNERING FOR CUSTOMER SUCCESS Throughout the world Thales is known as a partner of choice to customers, industry leaders and suppliers alike. In the U.S., Thales partnered with Raytheon to form the first transatlantic joint venture, Thales Raytheon Systems, which today supplies air defense systems to the U.S. Army, Air Force, NATO and numerous other customers. Another Thales partnership is the joint venture with DRS Technologies, Sonar Systems located in Pennsylvania and Maryland, supplying underwater surveillance technologies for the U.S. Navy.

Across the U.S., hundreds of valued suppliers work closely with Thales to support military and commercial customers located in the U.S. and abroad. Thales is committed to forming industry-leading partnerships with suppliers, joint venture partners and those companies to which Thales serves as a subcontractor providing of state-of-the-art technologies.
