5 Perfect Itineraries in Thailand
2
Thanks for requesting this guide. We’ll keep this short and to the point.
Every vacation is different; everybody has different needs and vacation
time at their disposal. That said, in order to make itineraries that will be as
useful to as many people as possible, we made some assumptions in this
guide that will, hopefully, fit as many standard cases as possible.
For example, we’re assuming you're flying to and out of Thailand However,
you may very well be already in Thailand, coming by bus or leaving by train.
If so, alter things accordingly, which should be relatively easy as you'll
probably be able to be a bit more flexible with your travel schedule.
One big assumption being made (at least in the general itineraries) is that
you've never been to Thailand before and what you want to see are all the
major attractions in the major destinations. Though the whole point is to
help you fit in as much amazing sights as possible we also think it is
important to squeeze some actual vacation in between all the sightseeing.
Below, you will find 5 perfect itineraries – ranging from 2 or 3 weeks in
Thailand (and in some instances a few neighboring countries). If you only
have 1 week in Thailand we recommend 3 days in Bangkok and 4 days in
either Chiang Mai or an island in the south.
Thailand's domestic transport system is accessible, efficient, and
inexpensive. If your time is short, fly. But if you have the time to take in the
countryside, travel by bus or train. Buses are fast, cheap and frequent, and
can be quite luxurious. Trains are slower but safer and offer more chance of
sleeping during overnight trips; moreover, if travelling by day you’re likely
to follow a more scenic route by rail than by road.

2 Weeks in Thailand
This itinerary takes you to almost all of the top destinations in Thailand,
including a visit to Chiang Mai and a 2-day hilltribe trek. After Chiang Mai
there are 2 options. Either fly to Ko Samui and visit the islands on the east
coast or fly to Krabi and visit the islands on the west coast. This will largely
depend on the weather; the rainy off-season on the east coast is from
November to February. The rainy season hits the west coast harder than
anywhere else in Thailand and rainfall can already start in April and usually
persists until October.

2 Weeks in Northern Thailand and Laos
This itinerary combines a trip to Northern Thailand with neighboring
country Laos. It’s a bit more adventurous than the other itineraries and
you’ll be sleeping in a train, boat and mountain lodge. The route from Luang
Prabang in Laos back to Thailand is the most adventurous part and requires
taking a very scenic 2-day trip by boat on the Mekong River. There is also a
speedboat that does the same trip in 6 hours but it is noisy and dangerous.
This itinerary can also be done in reverse (first Chiang Mai, than Laos).

2 Weeks in Thailand and Cambodia
This itinerary combines a trip to Thailand with Cambodia where you’ll visit
the amazing ruins of Angkor, one of the most important archaeological sites
in South-East Asia. There is a direct bus service running from Morchit bus
terminal in Bangkok to Siem Reap, but it is also possible to take a (more
expensive) plane to Siem Reap. Also, instead of going to Sihanoukville from
Phnom Penh and returning to Thailand, it is also possible to continue your
journey to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

From Singapore to Bangkok in 2 Weeks
This itinerary combines a trip to Thailand with next-door neighbor
Malaysia and the city-state of Singapore. During this trip you’ll see the
major highlights in Malaysia and afterwards spend some time on the beach
in Thailand. Though it is possible to do this trip independent, it is also
popular as a small-group tour with G Adventures.
