The Boy Scouts of America designates February 9 as Scout Sunday to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting. All scouts within the Scout BSA program are asked to proudly wear their uniform to mass that weekend. The 9:15 Sunday mass will allow scouts to serve as ushers, bring up the gifts, serve as altar servers, etc. The Scouting program within the St. Jude’s community is more than just an activity for our youth to learn about the outdoors. Scouting provides fun, fellowship, and training to

our youth as well as youth in our community. It emphasizes honesty, self-reliance, and respect, as well as Reverence and Duty to God. Through a year-round program, it affects character, citizenship, and personal fitness. As the Boy Scouts of America celebrates its anniversary, we salute all the scouts (in Packs, Troops, Crews, Venturing and Posts), as well as the splendid volun-teers who make the program successful.

Every Thursday after the morning mass, and ends at 8:00PM. You can come at any time and stay for as long as you like. Dur-ing the adoration there are several prayers in which you can participate:

We are so accustomed to read the letters of St. Paul, or travel with him on his journeys, to con-sider this itinerant preacher as one who had it all together. As we listen to him today, he placed his trust on the Lord, the Spirit and God’s good grace or power. Although he denies the use of persuasive speech, our Christian lives are mold-ed and formed by his great teaching. As I listen to the homily at mass, may I ask that that same Sprit and power be on the lips and in the heart of the preacher, to assist me in my growth as a dis-ciple.

May the image of salt and light, strengthen and guide me as the words and Spirit move my heart.

Abortion Survivors

Child psychiatrist Philip Ney relates, "A woman reported telling her nine year old son about her abortion, which had taken place years before he was born. He said, 'I knew, Mom, that there was some-thing wrong. I always have nightmares about knives and my mother killing me. I have an imaginary brother who wants to kill me. If you had not aborted the other, would you have aborted me?'" (Abortion Survivors, p.36). This is a story repeated more times than most people realize, and representing a societal and

pastoral problem whose pro-portions are greater today than at any previous time in history: the phenomenon of tens of millions of abortion survivors.

It is clear that abortion's prima-ry victim is the child who is killed. It has also become in-creasingly clear that to kill the child is to harm the mother and father as well. What is not al-ways so well known, however, is that abortion makes its im-pact felt on those who have had a sibling aborted, and that this impact is felt in surprising and astonishing ways, which also have wider implications for the whole of society.

First Reading: Isaiah 58:7-10 This reading is a vigorous exhortation from the prophet Isaiah to lead lives of active charity and generosity. He promises that the Lord will be our “dawn,” our “rear guard,” our “light” if we share our bread, shelter the homeless, and clothe the naked. Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 Paul tells the Corinthians that he and they must not rely on the so-called “wisdom” of secular teaching and philosophy but on the power of the Spirit. Gospel: Matthew 5:13-16 Jesus reminds the disciples and all Christians that they carry special responsibilities to be “the salt of the earth.” They must not hide their light but show their goodness to all.
