Judd Herberger 1942-2021
THe herberger Theater celebrates the life of judd Herberger
Judd’s passion for the performing arts and love for the theater was put on display each and every day. He was determined to fulfill the vision his parents, Bob and Kax Herberger, had for the arts community in Arizona. Each time he met with theater leaders to discuss current successes, emotion would overcome him knowing that the Herberger Theater, in its present state, would have made his parents proud.
Judd’s favorite seats were in the loge, just above the orchestra, so that he had both a great view of the audience and the show he was attending. In an interview for a video shown during Billie Jo and Judd’s Hall of Fame induction, Judd mentioned how seeing children’s faces light up at the magic of theater would bring a tear to his eye.
Judd helped construct the Herberger Theater in a literal and figurative way. He loved to share the story of how his crew was working throughout the night on the finishing touches of the grand staircase, hours before the opening of the Herberger Theater. Without Billie Jo and Judd Herberger and the Herberger family’s commitment to creating and maintaining the first major theatres and arts organizations in Arizona, the arts community would not be what it has become today. Thank you, Judd. - Arizona’s Arts Community

Your safety is top priority
• Masks & Face Coverings: Masks and face coverings are required at all times for all Guests, volunteers, and staff in all indoor spaces regardless of vaccination status until Maricopa County is no longer an area of substantial or high transmission. Masks and face coverings may only be removed while actively enjoying concessions purchased at the bar in designated areas. Masks and face coverings must be constructed and worn as per CDC guidelines. Cloth face coverings shall be constructed with two or more layers of breathable fabric. Face coverings shall cover both nose and mouth and fit snugly along the sides of the face and securely under the chin.
• Healthy Associates – COVID-19 Vaccination: Herberger Theater Center associates and volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated, as defined by the CDC, in order to work at the theater.
• Restrooms: Occupancy of the interior restrooms will be limited to ensure proper physical distancing. Molekule brand air purifiers, which have been FDA-cleared as shown to destroy viruses and bacteria, have been added to lobby public restrooms. Ongoing sanitation of high-touch surfaces will take place during all events. See below.
• Cleaning: In addition to overnight sanitation, we will have trained cleaning staff before, during, and after every event with guests. They will sanitize high touch points, restrooms, and other surfaces on an ongoing basis. That includes the audience area, restroom, box office, and backstage areas.
• Healthy Associates – Health Screening: Associates and volunteers will continue to submit daily health screening information, including temperature checks. Anyone reporting symptoms or not feeling well will not be permitted at the theater.
• Smoking/Vaping: Smoking and vaping will only be permitted in designated areas away from the seating area and lobby doors.
There is an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 in any public place where people are present, particularly where there may be close contact with others. Click here to view the full list of safety measures.

The pandemic’s effect on the Herberger Theater Center community has been staggering. COVID-19 forced an abrupt closure of the Herberger Theater. As the months stretched on, the negative effects of that closure have escalated and resonated throughout the Herberger Theater community. Compared to 2019 in the same timeframe:
• The curtains raised on 755 fewer performances,• 115,183 fewer patrons enjoyed the magic of theater, and• 44,961 children were deprived of the pleasure of a school performance.
This is a huge loss for our theater to recover from. But we will get there.
We’re turning to champions of the performing arts like you during the recovery from the pandemic. In this special 1000-day campaign, our goal is to add 1000 Friends of the Herberger Theater Center by 2024.
By becoming a friend of the Herberger Theater Center, you sign up to receive notifications about upcoming performances, opportunities to support, and ways to engage with your local theater.
