Steers have already been validated; sheep, goats and pigs showing in the State Fair-Dallas have been validated. August will be the month to place orders for sheep, goat & swine tags! EVERYONE (including 4-H & FFA members) who are interested in showing sheep, goats, and/or swine will need to indicate AND PAY for the number of validation tags they will want to order. This will include everyone who will be showing in the winter and early spring, including the county show AND all major livestock shows. Tags will cost $12.00 per tag, and you will need to indicate the number of sheep or goats or swine tags you want to order. If participants are wanting to participate in the county show only which is held in January, tags will be $3 per tag. Just remember that the COUNTY ONLY tags are just that - it will not allow the animal to show in any other show but Tom Green County or your local school show. All other shows including San Angelo Stock Show are considered a MAJOR SHOW and must have the state validation tag. Quality Counts info and testing can be found at: http://agrilife.org/qualitycounts/ The “Texas Trail” is an online self paced guided experience through Quality Assurance and Character Education with your livestock project. The overall experience takes approximately 2 hours to complete, and can be stopped and restarted as many times as needed. With a unique user log-in, each participant has their own personal experience. The actual testing will be located under the Verification tab. Only those who are new exhibitors will need to test! If you have turned 14 and will be classified as a Senior member this year - you will need to RE-TEST in the new age division. All others will use the same number as in the past. The Texas 4-H Photography contest results were an-nounced recently and some of the winning photos were on display during the 4-H Roundup event in College Station in June. Photographs are judged on points of categories of Impact, Creativity, Technical, Composition, Subject Mat-ter and Story Telling. Blue ribbons are on points of 81 to 100; Red ribbons are on points 80-51; White is 50-31 and Participant award is 30-0 points. Tom Green County had 12 photos which advanced to the State Contest with a total of 5 Blue ribbons, 5 Red ribbons and 2 White. Those placings and their division are:

We are proud for all the 4-Hers who put a record book together for this year’s contest. The record book is a priceless asset, especially when scholarship applications are being filled out. There were a total of 43 participants who turned in record books for county competition and 40 of those will compete in the District Contest on July 12th. Judging for the District Contest will take place on July 12th at the Tom Green County 4-H Center here in San Angelo. This participa-tion shows the dedication and hard work that everyone puts into their projects. Good Luck!

Sheep & Goat Leadership Tour It is time for the 3rd annual Sheep & Goat Youth Leadership Tour. This is a leadership event for those exhibitors, participants and 4-H members who are involved and interested in learn-ing more of the sheep and goat industry. The tour will be held July 25 – 27 here in San Angelo with participants staying in the ASU Dorms. There will be a full schedule of industry tours, hands on learn-ing, and leadership activities. The tour is now open to everyone across the State and the event will be 3 days and 2 nights. The first 20 youth to email or fax their registration to the Con-cho County Extension office will be accepted after that there will be a waiting list. All registrants must be 13 years of age by the event and cost is $75 per participant and adult chaperones. All papers and fees must be in office by July 15, 2016. If you might be interested in learning more of this special event and/or need a registration form, please feel free to contact the Tom Green Extension Office.

State Roundup Results

Tom Green County 4-H members and leaders participated in the 2016 State 4-H Roundup in College Station on the TAMU campus earlier in June. Results from the State Contest are: Fashion Show: 4th place (Buying-Businees/Interview) -Jill Kellermier; 7th place (Buying-Fashions Under $25) and 7th in Natural Fiber Contest-Cotton - Emily Moeller Fashion Storyboard: Accessory - 11th place, Emily Moeller Leaders 4 Life Team: 3rd place - Ashley Wilde, Cassie Weishuhn, Emily Niehues, Taylor Hoelscher, Tara Weber and Kenzie Weadock. We also had several who participated from Tom Green County for Texas 4-H Foundation Scholarships. Taylor Hoelscher and Ashley Wilde both received scholarships in the amount of $16,000 each from the Rodeo Austin Show; Ashley also received a $1,000 Scholarship from the Texas Extension Education Association for District 7. Tara Weber received a 4-H Foundation Scholarship from the Davidson Family Foundation in the amount of $5,000; Megan Craw-ford received Foundation Scholarship from the Bob Benson Memorial in the amount of $3,000 and Emily Niehues re-ceived a scholarship from the Houston Livestock Show in the amount of $18,000. Tom Green 4-Hers brought home a TO-TAL of $59,000 in scholarship awards. We are so proud of All those members who represented Tom Green 4-H. Other participating in the Roundup activities were: Ryleigh Hyles, Payton White, Dakota Smith, Nathan Wal-dron, Carson Green, Matthew Trees, Sebastian Castillo, Brandie Dragt, Kristen Schwartz, Cameryn and Chloe Jones. We send a special thanks to all those leaders, coaches, par-ents and agents who assisted in driving participants to and from their contests, or worked as a judge in the event. Your support is greatly valued and appreciated. We have included a number of snapshot photos from the event elsewhere in newletter. Congratulations to all on a job well done and representing Tom Green County 4-H with pride!

TG County Jr. Fashion Show The Tom Green County Jr. Fashion Show was held on Thursday, June 30th at the Tom Green 4-H Building. Some participants were judged on their garments which were either constructed thru their sewing project or pur-chased and entered in the buying division. The top 3 plac-ing participants in the Junior & Intermediate age division in each category will advance to the District 7 Contest which will be held on Tuesday, July 19th at the Grape Creek Bap-tist Church. Those who participated their category and placings include: Juniors-Construction: Everyday Living –1st—Paige Hohensee; 2nd—Anna Laura Barker; 3rd—Ellen Boness Juniors-Construction: Re-Fashion—1st-Sierra Killam Juniors-Construction: Special Interest –1st-Kyleigh Woodley, 2nd—Shelby Black Junior-Buying: Fashion Under $25-1st Sierra Killam Intermediate Construction: Dressy—1st, Kristen Schwartz; 2nd—McCulla Woodley Intermediate Construction: Everyday Living-1st, Grace Wilde Intermediate Construction: Special Interest-1st, Julie Black Clover Kids: Dressy—Kate Hohensee. Re-Enroll NOTICE! Notice: September 1 begins a new year for 4-Hers. Eve-ryone - including 4-Hers AND Adult Leaders are reminded that you MUST re-enroll each year. Beginning August 15th and in September and October, please check to make sure that you have completed a NEW & UPDATED enrollment info online. These enrollment forms and verification thru 4-H CONNECT verify that you are an active 4-H member and that your mailing address and other important contact infor-mation is correct. All Adult leaders and adult volunteers must fill out new forms and be prepared to background check which are required through the State 4-H office and are valid for only 3 years. This process will also help to update our 4-H enrollment program. If you are NOT receiving regular e-mails thru our office regarding some 4-H activities then it may be a GREAT possibility that you are either NOT current in your status OR you did not indicate a family e-mail in your contact info. Please call the Extension office for info or check at your next club meeting to re-enroll. We expect delivery of these NEW forms in August. CLUB Managers: Please assist the office by making sure ALL your members - new and long-time members - have completed the 2016-2017 form or have been online to verify their contact information. Reminder: PLEASE remind your family & friends who are wanting to join to wait until AFTER you have received notice from our office or a date given by the Texas 4-H State Office that the 4-H CONNECT system has rolled over for the NEW YEAR.

Club News Hunter’s Education Class: The Basic Hunter Education Course is designed for novice or young hunt-ers, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All ma-terials are provided and subjects are covered to enable the student to suc-cessfully complete the hunter education certification process. The Basic Hunter Education Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of class-room instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test admin-istration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. Instructor Gary Glass will also be providing a Hunter’s Education Safety Class for all participants that need to qualify for a safety class to obtain their Hunting License. This class will be held on Saturday, August 20th at the Tom Green 4-H Building. Anyone that is needing the necessary classroom requirement to meet the state regulations from Texas Parks & Wildlife for a hunting license, can contact Gary Glass at 234-8666 to register for this event or for more information. 2016 Leadership Lab - Texas 4-H Center, Brownwood Tom Green County 4-H was represented by 9 4-H members who attended the annual District 7 Leadership Lab in Brownwood. Those attending this year’s Lab were Nicholas Broz, Baylor Halfmann, Mark Holtman, Tate Jones, Jill Kellermeier, Grady McCrea, Robin Morris, Cassie Weishuhn and Ashley Wilde. These members were accompanied by 4H agent - Jaye Chasteen and Agent Courtney Redman. Officers for the District 7 4H Council were elected and they are: Presi-dent - Sierra Gordon; 1st Vice-Pres - Kamry Keese; Delegate-At-Large-Katie Pantoja; 2nd Vice-Pres -Madison Fussell; 3rd Vice-Pres - Tate Jones; Secretary - Jessica Harris; Public Relations Officer - Ashley Byrom; Par-limentarian -Kade Greaves. All reported having a good time and looking forward to next year’s event. Tom Green 4-H Archery Club: The 4H Archery Club celebrated their End-of-Year party at the Out-doorsman. They celebrated by having lots of food and Archery games. The Club would like to thank the Hall Family for providing lots of game prizes and goodies. Many thanks to all the parents for supporting our club in various ways. Our club is successful because of you! Archery Club members: Celeste Castillo, Sebastian Castillo, Gryphon Ross, Mor-gan Ross, Sergio Del Rio, and Cie Rangel conducted an Archery class for the R.A.N.G.E program at the San Angelo State Park on June 29. Club members helped teach, demonstrate, and helped the participants shoot arrows. This bunch of great kids had a great time learning to hold a bow and shoot some of our 3D targets. Tom Green 4-H team wins national 4-H wool judging contest SONORA – The Tom Green County 4-H wool judging team nabbed the top spot to win the 56th annual National 4-H Wool Judging Contest held recently in Sonora. The contest and its sister event, the 16th annual National FFA Wool Judging Contest, capped off three days of youth activities held in con-junction with the 79th annual Sonora Wool and Mohair Show June 14-16. 4-H is the youth component of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. The Tom Green County 4-H team earned a score of 1,800 to best the Medina County 4-H team’s 1,739 points. Medina County edged out Wyoming’s Natona County 4-H, which had 1,616 points and was third place.

The winning Tom Green County team members were Matthew Salisbury, whose score of 618 points earned him high point individual honors for the entire contest, Ross Smith, Baylor Halfmann and Casie Weishuhn. Their coach was Dr. Mike Salisbury.

The Hondo FFA team coached by Timbo Tatsch won the National FFA Wool Judging Contest with 1,786 points, slipping past second-place Marion FFA by only three points. Emily Reily of the Marion team earned the contest’s overall high-scoring individual honors with a score of 606 points. The Hondo FFA team members were Devin Gonzales, Emma Lessing, Max Bales and Hanah Jones. The national 4-H and FFA wool judging contests are the premier events of the Sonora Wool and Mohair Show. The show features youth judging contests and wool and mohair fleece competitions. The event is sponsored by the Sonora Lions Club and Sonora Chamber of Com-merce in cooperation with AgriLife Extension.
