Zubin and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra will only have two per-

formances in Taiwan this time; they will be in Tainan Municipal Cultural

Center on the 26th of March and National Concert Hall in Taipei on the 27th

of March. People who are interested in symphony are all welcomed to par-

Zubin Mehta and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra!!

Zubin Mehta is going to lead Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra to Taiwan

for performance in March, and the locations for the event is only limited to

Taipei and Tainan. Being a citizen of Tainan, the capital of cultures, do not

miss out this great opportunity!

Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra, which is best known by their opera

performances, it is their first time coming to Taiwan, and they are going

to perform Giuseppe Verdi’s “Les vepres siciliennes”, “Luisa Miller”, and

“La forza del destino” with Zubin Mehta as the prologue of their perform-

ing tour. In addition, this year happened to be the centenary of Gustav

Mahler’s death, so Mahler’s symphony, “Titan”, will be performed in

order to commemorate Mahler, and it is going to be the rarely seen full

Mahler’s symphony No. 1, and it was originally made for five move-

ments, but since it was too long, Mahler condensed it to four move-

Opera in 1998.

“Fireproof” Material Failure – Random Checks on Pubs in Tainan

As a response to the fire accident which took away 9 lives in Taichung last weekend,

Fire Safety departments in Tainan and Kaosiung launched a series of spontaneous

checks on Fire Safety at the nightlife scenes, and proved to be worthwhile.

the inspections on emergency exits and signs, the Department was most concerned

about the so called “fireproof” materials used around the premises. They found one

famous pub in Tainan which uses acclaimed “fireproof” sponges as sound insulation

material. But when the firefighters try to light the material, it caught fire

immediately, even though it is “certified” as fireproof. The pub owner promised that

it will be improved right away.
