Lighting-up for Xmas on Dec. 5

Facing the upcoming Christmas, Tainan City Government holds a series of activity. The first peak of the whole series is the “Light-up Ceremony” at the square of National Museum of Taiwan Literature at 19:30, Dec. 5.

Tainan City Government has planned to cooperate with churches, organizations, firms and citizens to decorate the traffic islands on several sites of downtown Tainan with beautiful lightings.

All lightings will be on after the ceremony and provide 3-month non-stop Christmas atmosphere until 2011 Lantern Festival.

Since the weather has been unsettling recently, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the number of emergency cases related influenza has been on the rise 3 weeks in a row.

Hurry to have this immunization before the end of November if you are in the priority group (families with children and elderly), as the CDC will be starting to allow all public to receive vaccinations in December 1st.

The CDC has started government funded immunization since October 1st. Until the last Friday, more than 2 million injections have been given. Currently, there are only 400 thousands vaccines for adults and 180 thousands vaccines for children left.

Overseas research has concluded that, by taking this vaccination, the rate of repeat infection within the household among school and pre-school children can be lowered by 32 to 38 percent. Other research also shown that, when 2 groups of children, taking Influenza and Hepatitis A vaccination respectively, the former group has 80% lower chance to spread other children in the same household with upper respiratory infections. The number of sick days is also reduced by 80 percent. Therefore, CDC recommends parents take their young children to receive the Influenza Vaccination.

South Taiwan Film Festival start this Friday The South Taiwan Film Festival is now in its The South Taiwan Film Festival is now in its 10th year, the organizer again takes the social welfare stance, choosing over 60 films with topics ranging from Environment, Ecology, Economics and Gender, hoping to make all the film-lovers get the worth of their tickets.
