Project Specifi cationMatthew Childs was awarded ‘Best in Show’ and ‘Gold’ for his Smart Meter Garden sponsored by Smart Meter GB. This is the second year running that Matt has taken home the title of ‘Best in Show’ at the prestigious RHS Hampton Court Flower Show, but he has received an accolade of Awards over the years for his beautiful show gardens.
The garden had a perimeter of beautiful trees supplied by Majestic Trees and were installed by Belderbos Landscapes using the Platipus Rootball Fixing System with Plati-Mat. Lush drifts of shade planting formed the boundary of this garden. A glistening, winding path led to the centre of the garden, where curved benches faced a large circular area that was blackened and cracked. Lights fl ashed beneath the cracks, gassy smoke seeped through and the surface fl ooded with water transforming the centre of the garden into a giant mirror that refl ected the lush trees. Matt said “the garden is inspired by a quote from philosopher and artist Rabindranath Tagore: The one who plants trees, knowing that he will never sit in their shade, has at least started to understand the meaning of life”. We exhibited some really beautiful mature specimen trees in the garden. It was important that these were both secure in the ground and not visually impacted by above ground staking. The Platipus Rootball Fixing System was the perfect solution.
