day 1: Lukla to PhakdingThe expedition starts with a 230m descent from Lukla to the peaceful riverside hamlet of Phakding.

At Phakding you have the option to visit a stunning hidden monastery, an hour’s walk from the hamlet. This will be your first opportunity to gain insight into the local way of life in remote areas of the Khamdu region.

Day 4: Namche Bazaar - Tengboche After a day trekking you will arrive at Tengboche. You will have the chance to visit the historic monastery, see all of the beautiful architecture, and catch a glimpse at the disciplined lives of the monks who inhabit the monastery.

As if the Tengboche Monastery is not stunning enough on its own, the awe inspiring Abu Dablam (6,856m), overlooking the monastery, and considered by many to be the world’s most beautiful mountain, adds a breathtaking finishing touch to the scene.

Day 2: Phakding - Namche Bazaar From Phakding you will trek to the hidden town of Namche Bazaar. Namche is the trading hub of the Khumbu region and you will have the chance to pick up some authentic Nepal products here.

Day 3: Namche Bazaar, Acclimatization Day Day 3 is an acclimatization day. You will ascend and descend 400m, and in doing so will ensure your body adjusts to the altitude. You will also have the chance to see some spectacular mountain peaks, including Abu Dablam, as well as the world’s highest airport.

Day 5: Tengboche - DingbocheAs you pass the 4,000m mark the tree line suddenly disappears, and you are greeted by a harsher, rockier terrain. From here onwards you are constantly surrounded by spectacular mountain peaks.

Day 6: Dingboche, AcclimatizationDay 6 is the second acclimatization day to ensure your body adjusts smoothly to the altitude. It involves ascending 400m before returning to Dingboche.

Day 7: Dingboche - Lobuche (Khumbu Glacier)

After a day’s trekking through a spectacular valley you will arrive at a cosy tea house in the settlement of Lobuche, beside the Khumbu glacier.

Walk along the edge of the glacier, and hear the growling of the shifting ice. Avalanches can be seen on the other side of the glacier down the mountain

Day 8: Gorak Shep and EVEREST BASE CAMP After trekking parallel to the Khumbu Glacier you will arrive at the lodge of Gorak Shep. After an hour and a half ’s trek from Gorak Shep all of your hard work pays off, as you reach Mount Everest Base Camp. The feeling of satisfaction is indescribable as you reach this legendry spot. You will spend about an hour at Base Camp, taking in the views and capturing this magical moment on camera.

Day 9: Summit of Kala Patthar On day 9 there is the option to summit Kala Patthar (5,545m), where some of the best panoramic views of Everest and the surrounding mountain peaks can be taken in.

After returning to Gorak Shep, you will begin the three day trek back to Lukla for your return flight to Kathmandu.

expedition guidesOur experienced, enthusiastic, and English-speaking team will ensure that you get the most out of this once-in-a-lifetime adventure, whilst maintaining your personal safety at all times. Tap into our guides’ local knowledge to make the very most of your trip.

Health and fitnessThe Everest Base Camp trek is strenuous, but does not require that you have any previous trekking or mountaineering experience. The only requisite is that you are in good physical and mental condition, and that you can hike with a backpack for 4-6 hours daily without completely losing the plot!

The altitude affects people differently, but it is common for participants to experience mild headaches on the expeditions after a day of ascending. Despite this, the effects of altitude usually subside after a few hours, as your body naturally adjusts to the altitude. To aid the acclimatization process we factor in two acclimatization days. We require that anybody with past medical conditions seek medical advice before enrolling on an expedition.
