William Shakespeare was born in 16th century near the end of the Middle Ages and at peak point of the Renaissance period. By look at William Shakespeare’s work and the Renaissance we can see that he played a key roles of the forming of society today. Women and men have great effect in that time, to this present day if we look into Shakespeare’s scripts particularly that of his dramas we can see how he viewed society through his scripts of his plays to the more artistic side of the world. The arts are how the Renaissance period portrays the roles of women and men. Mrs. Clinton’s living documents that are testifying of time showing key moments in their paintings how the role of women and men and other outside influences. Religion played a crucial part of society then and today. “In times like these, it can be easy to despair that some differences are irreconcilable, some mountains too steep to climb; we will therefore never reach the level of understanding and peacefulness that we seek, and which I believe the great religions of the world call us to pursue,” A lot of people believed that the sexes had a different roles to play throughout the times of man history in some aspects this is true. Shakespeare’s plays always give women a strong role to play. My view backup by http://www.shmoop.com/macbeth/lady-macbeth.html “Lady Macbeth is a teensy bit worried that her man isn't quite man enough to do what it takes to be king; he's "too full o' the milk of human kindness" (1.5.1). If her husband's going to be the powerful figure she wants him to be, Lady Macbeth's got to take things into her own hands. This is seen over and over again is in his plays the ones were they manipulating the men. This makes me believe in the saying that “behind every good man is a woman”. In the concept of things humans are always battling the sexist of there identity.

But who has the power is it the person who has an influence over the strong or is it but strong who have an influence over the weak to manipulate. When comes down to it influence is power and you have to advertise that power between to control of the many. Nothing has done this better than religion during the Renaissance period and now. Mostly today we think ourselves as being a purged of such things but are in reality, day-to-day roles still have the same fundamental structure we still play our crucial role as male and female. We are less subtle about it behind every good woman is a man

In Shakespeare’s plays women have always been strong, part of his work in my opinion some of his dramas women have a much stronger role then men. Shakespeare's view on women in society are best worded by this quote; “It didn't offend me at all. Nothing that is real offends me. Women like that exist. In fact, women in past generations were encouraged to be dainty and delicate and depend on the men. And who were they to complain? They had it easy. Life was carried on broader shoulders and capable arms. But have you read the Merry Wives of Windsor? The women are cunning, the women are clever, the women are victors.” But we still see them as being less then man which is not true there has been any points in the Middle Ages when women have flourished for example in the 1960s and 1970s, the idea that women were oppressed in the Middle Ages flourished. In fact, all we need to do is think of a few significant women from that period to see that is not true at all: Their was a young woman who was given full control of the French army! Her downfall was political and would have occurred whether she were male or female. Hildegard von Bingen was a wisdom in the middle Ages who was held in such high esteem that Kings, Popes, and Lords all sought her advice. Her music and writing exists to this day.

Elizabeth I ruled as a powerful queen in her own right. Her words “There  is  one  thing  higher  than  Royalty  And  that  is  Religion,  which  causes  us  To  leave  the  world,  and  seek  God.”    Women did not work on Cathedrals but they certainly pulled their weight in the fields and villages. Women were homemakers we can still say that today Furthermore, the rules of chivalry meant that women had to be treated with dignity. The biggest difference between the concept of feminism in the middle Ages that it did not happen there was no feminism to my knowledge. The middle Ages it was believed that women were “equal in dignity, different in function” – now the concept has been modified to “equal in dignity and function” I.E we have women doctors and male nurses.

When we perceive ourselves I believe little has changed between the ages of religion, there is many paintings that share my same view in art men have been a strong figure to be looked upon. I believe this is because of the church how it advertised back in the day. Forced their ideals onto others through the influence of arts in the Renaissance period by doing this was the very first early form of advertising by use of these pictures. Could be seen by most in the church. The church worshippers passed down what they have learnt to others in a subconsciously we have accepted there ways. The conflict with the sexes in the church still exists.

In looking at our society would be the equivalent Shakespeare time from theatre to movies the role of women has changed in the way the society sees them. ‘Women are traditionally represented as the victims and men represented as the monster and hero. This was how women used to be treated before women had equal rights to men; so that was how they were portrayed in horror films. The book “Men, Women and Chainsaws” by Carol J Clover supports this “The functions of monster and hero are far more frequently represented by males and the function of the victim far more garishly by females.” Taking the accounts of sexual roles between modern society in advertising the old spice man is a good example of how one advert appealed to both sexes “The man your man could smell like” in the aspects of women buying it for men and men wearing a women the that works well. In conclusion the roles we play in society to me will never change, we will always be influenced by others and we would push on those influences and opinions what we have subconsciously accepted and naturally passing it on to others. From Shakespearean times through the Renaissance and now all shares need for knowledge that we have find in advertising.   Religion is just as important today as it was back in Shakespeare’s time when changes have come about as man has gained more knowledge and is more worldly not just relying on one source of information. Many other share my views some would say that “Religion has changed but it is still part of us. There are many people who are still devout Christians and Jews. Even if you aren't following the rules, most people believe in some sort of religion and use it as their morality basis. Religion is also relevant in a way of discrimination too. Many are prejudiced towards other religions and races.” Advert can appeared as a piece of string in the concept that the never-ending and how society can grow over times. In a way advertising depicts sexual roles in society and how best we are influenced by ourselves through the times. this view is share with http://www.businessinsider.com/ “There is no shortage of sex in advertising. We all know sex sells, but how has it altered the way we think about sex”

When done right, these ads can have a huge impact on society and how we think about sex and gender, such as Gatorade's empowering "Keep her in the game" campaign.
