Aim of the test beam

Test the FP420 System:

1 hamburg-pipe section with 3D detector blade(s) and timing detectors at room temperature

Tracking possible using ATLAS micro-strip telescopewhich can be installed to include the entire system

Will include: motor tests, irradiated 3D atlas assembly ( 1 single card if cooling available)

DAQ with ROD (Scott) or Turbo-Daq

Dates and organisation

11-16 October. Request made for few days in November

It will be in former NA45 area - H8 Need of scheduling the installation

The 138 door blocks 80-90 m of beam lineNormally a crane is available and there will be 1

full dayAvailable to install everything in the beam area

– There is a dump: people can work downstream if you are taking data, but not the opposite

Facilities

What do we need?

Table? Cables? Registration for computers?» Make list as soon as possible

Network infrastructure (more than what is already available?)

Network infrastructure available 100 Mbit connection Need of register equipment

Page 5: TEST BEAM 2007 Dates, Facilities, Safety Cinzia Some key slides from Beniamino Di Girolamo CERN

to be decided in the next months:

ALL SUB DETECTORS: infrastructures, space

MANPOWER availability

DAQ choice

Next meeting’s data

Equipment transfer dates to Cern

Safety

These slides do not replace a safety course Any of you working in building 887 or in

other controlled area must Follow or followed a Safety training Wear a film badge

• Temporary ones are easy to obtain from ‘film-badge service’

• Long term ones have stricter rules to follow

Breaking rules is nice, but these rules are for your health!

Page 7: TEST BEAM 2007 Dates, Facilities, Safety Cinzia Some key slides from Beniamino Di Girolamo CERN

Building 887 classification

The building 887 is classified as controlled area Average dose rate: ≤25 Sv/h Maximum dose rate (transitory

conditions): ≤100 Sv/h Limit for people under dosimetry control

status: 20 mSv in 12 months The ALARA principle: As Low As

Reasonably Achievable

Page 8: TEST BEAM 2007 Dates, Facilities, Safety Cinzia Some key slides from Beniamino Di Girolamo CERN

Basic rules

Wear your film badge Every month (at the beginning) insert it in

the reading machines: you are monitored• Many around CERN• One near gentlemen toilets in 887, Jura side door

There are frequent visits of radio-protection personnel that will ask you to show your film badge

The film badge has to be complete Do not remove labels It costs a lot: don’t loose it

In case of need

For any safety question call coordinator at 16 3593

For any accident Call Fire brigade 74848 Fire or big accident: call 74444 or 112 from

any CERN phone

Page 10: TEST BEAM 2007 Dates, Facilities, Safety Cinzia Some key slides from Beniamino Di Girolamo CERN

NEVER work alone in the area

Same is valid in 887 You are all brilliant and experienced scientists

Surely you can do everything alone BUT… If you fail you will be frustrated (minimum) in

danger (maximum) Doing with other people is more fun

In case you are alone GO HOME If you are alone and you need help, before start call

someone or call me If there is something strange going on call the fire

brigade they are around 24/7 (even during CERN holidays…). They are happy when they are useful

In key access

Only 8 people can access the area ONE PERSON ONE KEY If more people is needed inside: put the area

to FREE ACCESS Via the beam terminal Or keep the door open for more than 1

minute Safety people is constantly around and they

take digital pictures of you: 10-12 people in KEY ACCESS!

Page 12: TEST BEAM 2007 Dates, Facilities, Safety Cinzia Some key slides from Beniamino Di Girolamo CERN

Do not push the button on the door!

Unless it is a real emergency Opening the door is very simple

Turn clockwise (completely!) the key Open the door

If the door doesn’t open it means you are not patient Turn the key completely

Behavior in the area

Do not leave ladders around One of the conditions to close the area

All ladders to the floor All metallic structures for detectors with high

voltage or current have to be grounded Refuse to work in unsafe conditions

Page 17: TEST BEAM 2007 Dates, Facilities, Safety Cinzia Some key slides from Beniamino Di Girolamo CERN

Every MD and every time we are in free

After each MD and every time the zone is in free access, there is the need to patrol the area

Few individuals have been instructed They are registered in the SPS Control

Room They are the only individuals enabled to do

a search patrol

In case of first aid emergency

Use common sense

Safety is also common sense There are not special dangers Just keep eyes open In case of doubts ASK

What else?

Need of training on the spot? Need of training for beam terminal use? Beam tuning?

e, , for free in a wide energy range
