TICT-2011 – Call for PapersThe organising committee welcomes you to submit a paper and prepare your presentation for this

year’s premier event in the New Zealand Tertiary IT calendar, the 2011 Tertiary ICT Conference!

This year’s theme is ‘The Future of Service!’ - As the pressure on our customers to perform and deliver becomes stronger, our ability to react to their needs becomes a much bigger challenge. How we discover,

plan, design, implement and support the services they require is now seen as an enabling platform for their success.

The 2011 Tertiary ICT Conference will explore and define what the tertiary sector is doing to prepare for the increasing demands on our infrastructure, budgets, processes, staff and students.

The 2011 conference will be your opportunity to contribute your experience, expertise and knowledge to the New Zealand Tertiary IT community. It will be a forum of discussion for what is on the horizon as service providers within a disparate, large scale sector. It will also provide an opportunity for our technology vendors and partners to update us on future road-maps and services that will directly benefit our customers.

Presentation Timing and Focus

Successful submissions will be given a 30 minute presentation slot on the conference program. The allocated time should also allow for speaker introductions and 5 minutes of questions at the end of the presentation.

Papers should focus on the theme of the conference ‘The Future of Service!’. Sub-themes could include:

•Newservicesimplementedthatdirectlybenefityour organisation•Currentorfutureservicearchitecture, design, implementation or delivery•Endusersupportinitiativesthatarechangingthewayyour customers engage IT groups•Currentorfutureinfrastructureorapplicationdevelopment•NeworfutureITservicesthatareenablingqualityresearch or teaching and learning outcomes•HighlighttechnologyorservicesthattheStudentsreallywant•Newtechnologiesorservicesthatareonthehorizonthat will benefit our customers

The presentation content can be on any topic relating to ICT. Presentation content should encourage, inspire or inform (maybe warn) delegates on current IT initiatives that are being utilised or on the horizon for the New Zealand Tertiary ICT sector.

We are asking that you, the delegates, give serious consideration to presenting a paper, or asking a colleague or industry acquaintance, who has undertaken some relevant activity, to present at this year’s conference. The measure of any conference is derived through its presentations and by the calibre of its delegates. The organising committee is working hard to ensure we present interesting, relevant papers and keynote speakers.

Presentation Submissions

Presentation proposals and Innovation Award submissions giving a brief resumé of the presenter, presenter photo (if you don’t mind!) and a 100-200 word abstract of the presentation should be submitted no later than Friday the 17th of June 2011.

We urge you to get your submissions and awards entries in early, as speaking opportunities will be at a premium. Don’t forget, those who present a paper are entitled to free entry for the full conference proceedings!

2011 MICROSOFT Innovation Awards

Has your institution designed, developed or implemented innovative ICT services which directly support and enable the outcomes for your institution, staff and students? Do you have a futuristic service waiting to explode onto the national stage proving you as an innovation leader in the NZ tertiary sector? THIS AWARD IS FOR YOU!

Given the success and popularity of the Microsoft Innovation Awards and awards dinner, we are continuing the TICT award series into 2011 and looking to build upon the pioneering submissions from the last two years.

This year we have chosen TWO categories to support the TICT 2011 theme of “The Future of Service !”. A supreme winner will also be chosen. The two categories are:

• ServiceinnovationinthebusinessofHigherEducation – . e.g. Staff, Research, Infrastructure or Business Services• ServiceinnovationinTeaching,LearningortheStudent Experience – .e.g. Student Services, Learning Management, Audio Visual or Computer Lab Services

The categories have been chosen to support this year’s theme of “The Future of Service”. The prestigious award will be presented at the Microsoft Awards Dinner to be held on the second night of the conference.

The 2011 Microsoft Innovation Awards will be judged on two components:

• Thecontentandqualityofthepapersubmission• Thequalityofinformationpresentedduringtheconference

Both the written and presented components of the innovation paper should concentrate on service achievements and how the applicants’ inventive solutions have made a difference to an organisation or key customer group.

Judges will also take into consideration the size of the institution and the effect the service innovation has had on that institution to give equal footing between larger Universities and smaller Polytechnics.

All innovation submissions should be completed and returned by Friday the 17th of June 2011. Successful applicants will be notified by Friday the 8th of July 2011.
