A. Equipment Setup Introduction to Windows Mobile 5.0TM and GPRS configuration 1. Tap / Settings /Connections / Bluetooth.

a) Open up the Windows Settings screen, by tapping on Start in the Windows toolbar.

b) From the Settings menu, tap the Connections tab, and then the Bluetooth icon.

c) From the Bluetooth page, make the Mode tab active by tapping on it. To turn Bluetooth on

tick both check boxes available as shown in figure 4.

d) Ensure that the device that you want to connect to has Bluetooth turned on and is

discoverable. Refer to the documentation that came with your phone to adjust the Bluetooth settings.

f) From the Bluetooth page, make the Devices tab active by tapping on it. You should see the

devices that have a Bluetooth® partnership associated with them. Tap New Partnership to add a device such as the cellular phone that you want to use for your internet connection. This will start a scan for all active Bluetooth® devices within approximately 10m/33ft of the Controller.

g) Wait until the scan is complete, once complete, from the list of available devices, select the

phone you will be using by tapping it, for example ‘W600i Jason’. Then tap Next.

h) You will be prompted to enter a passkey. This is to ensure that your device is connecting

with a device that you want connecting to it. A passkey such as 1234 or 1111 should be suitable.

i) Your cell phone may ask for confirmation to connect and will then ask for a passkey. Enter

the same passkey that you entered in the controller.

j) Back on the Controller, in the Partnership Settings page you can enter a more descriptive

Display Name or leave the default. Note: By entering a display name you do not change the name of the device you are partnering with, just the name that is displayed on your Controller.

k) Select the Dialup Networking check box. And tap Finish.

l) The device you just created a partnership with will now appear in the Devices list. Confirm

this. Note: It is very unlikely that any changes will ever need to be made under the COM Ports tab. Making erroneous changes under the COM Ports tab can disable your Bluetooth. m) Tap ok to exit the Bluetooth Settings page.

You have now created a Bluetooth partnership between your data collector and your cellular phone. This will allow the two devices to communicate when they are within approximately 10m/33ft of each other.

1. Create a connection for connecting to the Internet.

a) In the Settings screen with the Connections tab active, tap on the Connections icon.

b) With the Tasks tab active, under “My ISP”, select Add a new modem connection.

c) Enter a name for your connection and then select Bluetooth as the modem from the drop down list, as shown in figure 14.

d) Tap Next to move to the My Connections page. e) You should see the cellular phone that you created the Bluetooth partnership with. Select it by

tapping on it and then tap Next.

f) Enter the GPRS access number you need to dial to connect. You should have this from pervious exercises performed, however if you are unsure please check with your trainer. Tap Next to proceed.

g) Key in your User name, password and Domain if appropriate. You should have this from

pervious exercises performed, however if you are unsure please check with your trainer.

h) If your service provider requires additional modem strings or AT commands to connect you will need to enter them by tapping the Advanced button. If there are any you should have this from pervious exercises performed, however if you are unsure please check with your trainer.

Note: These settings are all specific to the service provider and may change without notice.

i) Enter in any settings as required and select ok to accept and proceed.

j) Tap Finish to save and exit.

You have now created a Bluetooth partnership between your controller and the cellular phone that you will be using as a modem, therefore allowing the two devices to communicate with each other. You have also created a connection in Windows Mobile 5.0 which defines the procedures that your devices must follow to connect to the internet. We will now test your connection to ensure that you can connect to the internet.

2. Test your connection

a) From the Start menu select Settings.

Tip: Refer to step 1a, for guidance.

b) Once in the Settings menu select the Connections tab and tap on the Connections icon.

c) Select Manage existing connections to display a list of existing connections.

d) Tap and hold on the connection that you want to use. A menu will appear asking if you want to delete the connection or connect with it. Select Connect.

e) A user name and password may be needed depending on service provider. If you are unsure check with your trainer. Once you have entered the user name and password or if none is needed tap the OK button.

f) The controller will attempt to connect to the modem/cellular phone that is associated with the connection you are using. The cellular phone you are using will probably ask you if you want to accept connections from the controller, refer to figure 25. Accept the connection on the phone.

Note: Some cellular phones may allow you to set them up to always allow connections, thus eliminating a step.

g) Once you have successfully connected the Connection Status icon will change to indicate that you are connected.

h) To ensure you have an active connection to the internet try opening a web page that you are familiar with. From the Start menu select Internet Explorer.

i) In this example we have navigated to http://www.purple.com as it is a site that does require a lot of time to load.

j) To disconnect simply tap and hold on the “Connection Status” icon until the pop up menu appears and then tap the Disconnect button.

Collecting the GeoXH with Ntrip

1. On the handheld, tap /Programs / TerraSync 2. In the Setup tab, click GPS Setting.

3. Set GPS Receiver Port COM1, click on Productivity Precision, click OK

4. Click Real-time Setting 5. Set Choice 1 Integrated SBAS and Choice 2 Use Unconnected GPS, Click OK

6. Wait any minute give fixed the SBAS Position 7. Re-click Real-time Setting 8. Set Choice 1 External Source, click the button

9. Set Type VRS, put down the Connection Method button set Internet, enter the Address and Port number. (e.g. Ntrip address 207.153.107.249 & port 2101).

2. Field Session Create a new data file 1. Tap the Section list button and then select Data 2. Tap the Subsection list button and then select New. The New File screen appears:

Create the Point & Line feature 1. In the Choose Feature list, highlight an appropriate point or line feature and then tap create. The

attribute entry from for the feature type appears:

Note: For using H-Star technology with better accuracy, carrier phase logging interval should be changed prior in

Options/logging interval.

2. Fill in the attribute fields with appropriate values. 3. As the software logs GPS positions, the counter beside the logging icon increments. 4. When you have finished entering the attributes, tap OK to close the road sign feature.

Collecting an area feature 1. In the Choose Feature list, tap Options and then select Log Now.

2. In the Choose Feature list, highlight an appropriate area feature

3. Tap Create, the attribute entry from for the area feature open, and the software starts to log

positions. 4. To pause logging, tap Pause. The software stops logging positions and pause icon flashes in the

status bar. To continue collecting the park feature, tap Resume to resume logging. The pause icon disappeares.

5. You can view the map while collecting feature. To do this, tap the Section list button and then select Map. The feature that you have collected appear on the map, along with the park perimeter that you currently collecting.

6. To go back to Data section, tap the Section list button and select Data. The attribute entry from is

still active and the software is still logging positions for the park. 7. When you have walked around the perimeter of the area, tap OK to close the feature.

Configuring the H-Star data 1. Tap the Section list button and then select Setup to open the setup section. 2. Tap Logging Setting. The Logging Setting from appears. 3. Verify that the Log H-Star Data field is set to Auto. 4. Tap OK to close this from and confirm the changes you have made.

3. Data Processing Transfer data to the office computer 1. In the GPS Pathfinder Office software, select Utilities / Data Transfer. 2. From the Device list, select the device called GIS Datalogger on the Microsoft Windows CE

operating system. Alternatively, if you have set up a device definition for your data collector, select that device name from the list. The Data Transfer utility automatically connects to the data collector.

3. Select the Receive tab

4. Click Add and then select Data File from the drop-down list. The open dialog appears. 5. Highlight the rover file and then click Open. The Open dialog disappears and the selected file

appears in the Files to Receive list :

6. Click Transfer All 7. To exit the Data Transfer utility, click Close.

Differential Correction Wizard 1. Select Utilities / Differential Correction. 2. To add any SSF files that are listed, select them and click

3. In dialog box, select the SSF files, click Open

4. Click Next. The Processing Type page of the wizard appears:

5. Select one of the processing types for differential correction. The options are explained in the

previous sections. 6. Click Next. The Correction Setting page of wizard appears:

7. If setup appropriate setting, click Change to open the Correction Setting dialog.

8. If not change, click the Next. 9. With H-Star processing you can select more than one base station with which to correct your

data. To do this, select a number of base stations and then save them as a group:

10. Click the Select button next to the Base Provider Group field. The Base Provider Group dialog appears:

11. Click New to open the New Base Provider Group dialog and create a new base provider group.

12. Click to open the Select Base Provider dialog and select a base provider to add to the group. Repeat this process until you have added all the required base station to your group.

13. Input the detail of custom base provider group information.

14. Input the base File Address Format, Time Format and Station ID carefully.

(For example: HKLT_2007042201.07o)

15. Click New again to open another New Base Provider Group and repeat the steps above.

16. Three User-defined Base Provider groups has been created on above example. 17. Click OK to return to the Differential Correction Wizard. 18. Click Next. The Output page of the wizard appears:

19. Select Start. The differential correction process starts.

20. If the base data coverage and reference positions are correct, click Confirm. The data is processed.

21. Click Close.

Create a GIS export setup 1. Select Utilities / Export. 2. In the Export dialog, click New. The New Setup dialog appears:

3. Enter a name for the new setup. 4. In the Create group, select the New setup option and then select ESRI Shapefile from the list 5. Click OK. 6. Select the Data tab.

7. Select the Features / Positions and Attributes option: - Feature – Positions and Attributes – exports feature and attributes information - Include Not in Feature Positions - exports not feature positions as either one point per Not in

Feature positions or as one line per group of not in feature positions. - Positions Only – exports positions as either one point per GPS position, one point per file

(mean position), one line per input file, or one area per input file. 8. In the Create Point Feature From group, you can export the following as point feature:

9. Click OK. 10. In the Input Files group, click Browse. 11. Select the corrected file to be exported (if it does not appear in the Select Data Files dialog) and

then click Open. 12. In the Choose an Export Setup group, verify that the newly created export setup is selected and

then click OK. 13. Click More Details to view the text file created from the export. 14. Click Close to exit the export utility.
