TERRARIUM•A terrarium is a vivarium for smaller land animals with form of glass fronted case

•A transparent enclosure for raising plants indoors

•Vivarium- it is used for keeping and raising animals or plants for research

CLOSED TERRARTIUMClosed terrarium contains tropical plants varieties like mosses, orchids, ferns, and air plants. It is because of having similar condition to the humid and sheltered environment of the tropics.

CLOSED TERRARIUM•A closed terrarium allows the circulation of water but it must be opened once a week to remove excess moisture from the air and walls of the container to prevent the growth of mould that can damage the plants and discolour the sides of the terrarium.

•Requires a special soil mix to make sure the good growing conditions and to reduce the risk of microbial damage

Succulents•A kind of plant which is drought resistant and its leaves, stem, or roots have more than usually fleshy because of having a water-storing tissue.

Desert Terrarium•You place cactus and other types of desert

plants and flora in the terrarium. You could also put colorful stones on top of the soil

•Do not mix normal soil with beach sand. This sand usually has an extremely high salt content which will be toxic to your plants.

Materials Needed•A Container (terra cotta or arizona themed is perfect)

•Several plants, cactii or succulents (generally an odd number is best 3,5 or 7)

•1 bag of sand, do not use sand you get at the beach - there are lots of contaminants

•Potting Soil, can be specifically for cactus or can be general potting soil

Materials Needed•A dozen stones in a variety of shapes and

colors, go find them!•Pebbles, Pearlstone or small rocks as

drainage in bottom of container (1 or 2 cups is enough)

•Spanish Moss or Sphagnum Moss (Acts as a barrier so soil doesn't work its way down into the bottom of the dish or pot

•Arizona or desert themed ornaments

ProcedurePlace about an inch of pebbles or pearl stone in the dish

Place a half inch to inch layer of activated charcoal

Place an inch thick layer of sphagnum or spanish moss

Fill about half the intended final volume with soil

Place your larger stones and arrange them in a pleasing manner

PROCEDUREChoose materials for the bottom layer of the terrarium. It can be all sand, all shells or a mixture of shells and sand. 

Fill the bottom quarter of the terrarium with the chosen layer.

Arrange shells and succulents as desired.

Display the completed terrariums with candles, extra shells or other summer beach mementos.

Forest Themed Terrarium•Use lush ferns and lots of spanish moss or

spaghnum moss. A tiny ceramic tiger or monkey would add a nice finishing touch.

Begin by adding a layer of about 1/2 inch of sand to the bottom of the bowl.

Insert the roots of the fern (or chosen plant) into the soil.

1. Prepare your glass container•Clean the glass container, remove

unnecessary things on it because it may affect the health of the plants

2. Add your drainage layer•Use rocks or pebbles to fill the bottom of

the container. It will allow the water to settle at the bottom instead of overloading your plants

3. Add the Activated charcoal•Just put enough charcoal to cover the

rocks .Activated charcoal/carbon will keep the terrarium healthy, it will reduce any bacteria and fungi.

4. Add the Soil •Add enough soil to allow the roots of your

plant to grow, try to the depth slightly bigger than the height of the plant’s original pot

5. Make some room•Use a trowel, your fingers or any things

that will dig on the soil to put your plants in

6. Prepare your plants•Take each plants out of its pot and gently

remove the hard soil until you get down to the roots. You may trim the long roots

7. Start planting•Start planting then add more soil around

the top and sides and gently press the soil around the base

accessories to it like, moss or pebbles to it.
