Terra Worx has the expertise and knowledge to build your
sports field to any specifications, we take great pride in our
ability to create a very successful turf project. The final
results will produce a healthy, dark green, dense turf canopy.
Careful considerations are given to;- Subgrade- Drainage- Irrigation- Root zone mix (growing medium)- Fertility & watering- Grow – in
Sports Field Construction
Subgrade is a very important first step, the field needs the ability to
move large volumes of water (rain storms) off the playing surface.
By shaping the subsurface to a 1% slope, either have a crown in the
middle of the field, then run the 1% to the field edges or have the
field appear to be flat and run the 1% from corner to opposite
corner. Later when we add the growing medium, it will mirror the
subgrade and the slope.
Is the “heart” of the whole sports field project, you want a growing
medium that will give the grassplant the best opportunity to grow and
survive in. Sports fields can fail due to compaction
and poor drainage, using large volumes of sand to
create a sandy loam mix will provide one of the best
growing environments. Using soils in the mix will
bring high silt, fines, and clay content which will
drastically increase compaction and leads to poor
drainage, loss of turf and weeds.
Subgrade
Drainage
Since most water that lands on the field (irrigation or rain)
will leave by gravitation pull, it's very important that this water
has somewhere to go once it has drained through the sandy
loam mix. Having drain lines trenched into the subgrade will
help to achieve this. A field that repeatedly reaches the
saturation point (after rain storms), will produce poor
playability & safety issues, maintenance problems, and
will have a negative effect on the growing conditions of
the grassplant.
An irrigation system is needed to maintain high
quality turf, this is very important during the
grow in stage (light & frequent applications) and
the on going life cycle of the grassplant. When
there are high volumes of groups using the field,
damage will inevitably occur, and having the
ability to turn water on to assist in recovery is
essential.
Irrigation
Root Zone Mix
Hydroseeding typically costs 50 – 80% less than using sod,
Costs associated with sod;- Shipping many sod pallets to location using tractor trailers.- A crew of 5-7 people for 2 days, for complete instillation.- Bobcat equipment to move sod pallets where needed on the field.- Reshaping & smoothing the surface damage, from labour and equipment movement.- Hours spent on clean up & removal of all left over sod material. Benefits of Hydroseeding;- Sprayed down & completed in the same day, by 2 professionals - All material is in spray tank, no hours needed for clean up- Root system is healthier and grows deeper- No layering of different soils - Very little disturbance to the field surface when being applied.- Fewer weeds
