term 4 week 2 - home - bomaderry public school
TRANSCRIPT
Dear Parents & Carers
Week 2 is here and brings our annual Book Week – what
fun! The big event for the week occurs TOMORROW –
our Book Character Parade, so get busy tonight digging through your wardrobes and bits and pieces so that you
can arrive tomorrow dressed as a book character or
something ‘WILD’ to fit in with the 2020 theme: “Curious
Creatures, Wild Minds”.
Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, community can
not attend this year but we will share lots of photos via Facebook and the newsletter.
Have a fantastic week celebrating everything ‘books’ and
don’t forget the
Book Fair which
runs all week in
our Library. Thank
you to Mrs Urquhart for all of
her organisation.
PARENT SURVEY – WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK
All parents and carers would have received a link to the
‘Tell Them From Me’ survey last week via SMS as well as from your child’s teacher. Pease click on the link to
complete the quick survey. We appreciate and value all
of your feedback. The survey is open until the end of this
week only. If you have not received the link, please
message your child’s teacher or give us a call at the front
office and we can text it to you. Thank you in advance for your contributions. Your feedback will help us make plans
and set improvement measures for 2021 and beyond.
Front and Back School Gates
Our front AND back gates are now in operation in the
mornings and afternoons. Please organise your afternoon pick up, bus, walking or gate exit arrangements
with your child.
We hope to alleviate the crowding at the front of the
school around 3pm especially. Please wait at a safe
distance from others in the carpark, on our footpaths and
near the gates.
The back gate will be unlocked, and supervised by a staff member, between 8.40-9.05am and 3.00-3.30pm. We
are pleased this has added some convenience for those
who live closer to this school entrance.
COVID-19 Reminders
We MUST continue to be vigilant about cold and flu symptoms, so please do not send your child to school
with sniffles, headaches, temperatures, coughs or any
other flu-related symptoms. They will be sent home. We
will continue to comply with all Health
Department guidelines at school.
Non-essential adults visiting schools, including parents and carers, are still
not permitted for Term 4 with some
exemptions. Parents and carers can
attend the school office for the purpose
of picking up their child if they are
unwell or where they have been asked
to arrange for a COVID-19 test after their child has
displayed flu-like symptoms while at school.
Kindergarten, 2K and HeadStart
Is your child or someone you know turning 5 by the end of July 2021 or 6 sometime in 2021? Now is the time to
enrol for Kindergarten. Our HeadStart Program has
commenced and runs on Monday and Tuesday from
9:00am- 2:30pm. Contact the office now for information
on Kindergarten enrolment and the HeadStart Program.
If your child turns 5 before the 31st July 2021 and you are unsure if they are ready to start school next year
please consider our 2K Kindergarten Program. This
program allows your child to enrol and attend school like
they would in Kindergarten, however, it runs over two
years. The first year they engage in a play based learning
environment and the second they attend school in the traditional Kindergarten class. Please contact the school
for more information and enrolment forms.
Achieving Our Goals
Every BPS student has individual learning goals and they
strive to achieve these every day.
During the very first week of term, students still managed
to kick a learning goal! Congratulations to Jayden in 4M
who can spell 100 high frequency words. Lyra in 3B also kicked the same goal! Skyla in 3B achieved her goal of
reading a level 29 text.
Walter in KC can now recognise and write numbers 1 to 10. Jasmine, Ruby, Lola and Caleb from 3B were so
pleased to celebrate their goal achievements. Jasmine
can read level 22. Lola and Ruby can tell the time to the
minute and use the terms ‘past’ and ‘to’. Caleb can read
analog and digital clocks within 5 minutes and use the
terms ‘past’ and ‘to’.
Term 4 Week 2 19 October 2020
A bubbly group of 2K students visited my office to
explain all of their achievements. Hayden, Annabelle,
Amelia, Brax, Aylah and Dillan have learned more
letters and sounds and have improved their backwards counting skills – oh, and they were super confident and
excited to talk about it!
Quality Work
At Bomaderry Public School teachers ensure that their
class has a clear understanding of what they need to
achieve during each lesson. This explicit teaching
allows students to strive to achieve high quality learning
and work samples. Students know the criteria and can
work hard to achieve them.
Lance in 1/2F wrote interesting sentences using his
personal spelling words. He edited his work and could
explain his spelling strategies.
Riley in 3/4B used research skills to present information
about Ben Hall, the bushranger, as part of an
informative text (poster/visual display). The driving question was ‘Who is Ben Hall?’
News from our NEST - Community Centre
Supported Playgroup will recommence on Thursdays
from 9-11am in the NEST room. We can’t wait to see you. Bring along your little ones and a piece of fruit. All
infants and preschool aged toddlers are welcome and
are to be accompanied by one parent or carer. It is a
fantastic, relaxed, play-based
session which also allows adults
to have some conversation, share ideas and support one another.
You are invited. Please call
Kristen on 4421 6577 if you would
like more information.
Employing New Teaching Staff for 2021.
We are currently working hard on the processes involved
in employing new permanent teaching staff at BPS. We
have formed three selection panels to employ three new teachers. A busy, but exciting time. We will keep you all
up to date with the outcomes as they are finalised later in
the term. We thank the local AECG and our P&C
committees for organising representatives from their
groups to join our selection panels.
BPS – Stay Up to Date
Please also stay informed via our school facebook page
– Bomaderry Public School. Jump on and like the page
so you see the posts. We post photos and updates
frequently, as well as important information that comes to
light during the school day. This weekly newsletter is also
posted, where you can see the photos in colour.
Once again, welcome to Term 4. We are looking forward
to supporting your children as they strive to achieve their
goals in our final term of 2020.
Aim High, Achieve High.

Library Matters
It’s Book week! Students are invited to come to
school dressed as a favourite book character on Tuesday 20 October. Our annual Book Fair will run all week in the library. Some students like to write a wish list from the items on display as a guide for their parents/carers. Students can buy directly from the Book Fair or place an order at the office with their name, book title and money in an envelope. Updates of the items available through the Book Fair will be made available through the
school Facebook page. Please note all Book Fair sales are cash only.
Looking forward to seeing all the dress-ups on Tuesday.
