From the Principal’s Desk… Congratulations to all the students who competed in the Athletics Carnival last Friday and a SPECIAL Thank you to Forest Lodge Public School for once again organizing the carnival and inviting our students to attend. Hopefully next year we will have a sufficient number of students to run our own carnival. (The results have been attached to this newsletter and awards will be handed out at our next school assembly on Thursday) Don’t forget the P&C Trivia Night Is on this Friday. You might still be able to get tickets if you hurry! It is anticipated to be another fun, community night. Details of this event are on the poster added to this newsletter. A lot of activities have been planned for this term and I encourage parents to regularly check your child’s bag for notes. If you have downloaded and subscribe to the FREE school app. you will automatically be notified of these notes and avoid disappointment. Peter Johnston Principal

Bourke Street Public School acknowledges the important role that nutritious food plays in the growth and development of children and is committed to providing students with a variety of healthy menu options every day.
We have made a few changes to the canteen menu this term which we hope students will enjoy. This is in addition to all our regular menu items including freshly made sandwiches, wraps and salads.
Just take a look at the new Term 3 2014 menu for all the details.
Elham looks forward to seeing you in the Canteen!
OMELETTES AVAILABLE EVERY DAY
We have added a tasty egg, feta and spinach Omelette to the menu. It is available hot every day as is or, even better, on an English muffin with salad of your choice.
SNACK CUP SURVIVOR
Following the trial of new “go green” snack cups this year, we are pleased to say that Elham’s carrot sticks with hummus in the snack cup was hugely popular and will remain on the menu.
NEW DAILY SPECIALS • YUMMY OMLETTES • NEW DRINKS • SUSHI
NEW DAILY SPECIALS
We have added three new hot dishes from
Allied Chefs to our daily specials menu:
Monday: Ravioli Napolitana
Hokkien Noodles
Tuesday: Sweet & sour chicken
on fried rice
MORE SPARKLE TO THE DRINKS MENU
We are expanding the drinks menu this term
to include Just Squeezed 100% pineapple
juice as well as the refreshing Mount
Franklin Lightly Sparkling Mineral Water
with a Hint of Wild Berry. The Sparking
Mineral Water as well as all fruit juice drinks
sold at the Canteen which are 200ml or less
are rated ‘GREEN’ by the Healthy Kids
Association.
GOUJONS ARE ON THE MOVE
In an effort to keep the canteen running
efficiently as the school grows, and in light
of the success of sushi on Tuesdays, we will
no longer offer goujons, nuggets, or
drumsticks on Tuesdays. Instead, goujons
with veges will now be available on Fridays
along with the old favourite – fish fingers.
SUSHI SUCCCESS!
This year we changed sushi suppliers and
trialed offering it on two days rather than
one. The delicious Komachi Sushi has
been a HUGE success and we encourage
you to try it. We will continue to offer
Komachi Sushi every Tuesday and
Thursday and hopefully on even more
days in the future if the success continues.
EVENTS – EVENTS – EVENTS!
Look out for more canteen news flyers this
term as we participate in “Celebrate
Canteen Week" from 28 July to 1 August
including competitions and a Pizza Day.
We will also announce the date and theme
of our Special Food Day later this term.
CANTEEN HELPERS NEEDED
In order to ensure the Bourke Street
School Canteen service can continue to
grow with the schools requirements,
the P&C would like to call on all parents
and carers who have some time, even if
it is only a few hours a month, to
become part of the BSPS Canteen
volunteer network. Please drop into
the Canteen and let us know if you can
help or email:
