and help with homework if needed.

SCHOOL APP
If you haven‘t by now, please load the app onto your phone so that you can have regular updates from us. This is a vital tool for communicating with you. If we can get all of our school community on this it would be great. An information sheet on how to do this is
enclosed in this week‘s newsletter.
SUMMER AND SUNSCREEN
As summer is in fine form, it is important to ensure your children apply sunscreen every morning before
they come to school. They can then reapply at school at playtime and lunchtime. Each class will have its own sunscreen for the children to use.
SWIMMING LESSONS—WEEK TWO & THREE Instructors from Napier Aquatic Centre Swim School
started lessons with all students yesterday. The cost is
$2.50/lesson (there are nine lessons) and this will be
added to your school invoice. If you have any queries
regarding swimming please see your child‘s teacher. All
students are expected to swim each day—please send a
note if you‘d like them kept out of the pool. We
encourage students to make sure they take
responsibility for their belongings however at times,
with so many children getting changed at once, mix-ups
can occur. Please ensure all school uniform and swimming items
are appropriately named.
CANTEEN / PIE WARMER Canteen lunches are available daily—order forms are
available from the Office. If students are bringing
food to be warmed up for lunch please
ensure it is in a container or wrapped suitably for the
pie warmer. Staff will NOT cook noodles or other
convenience foods at lunchtime—it is too time
consuming and there are lots of other lunch options
available. An updated canteen price list for 2016:

SCHOOL BANKING
We continue our partnership with ASB Bank this year
and have the opportunity for students to start saving
$$!! The Bank Deposit Box will be on Jennie‗s desk each
Wednesday morning. More information regarding this
opportunity and how to get started is available from
the office.
SWIMMING
Our cluster swim is yet to be determined. Once we
have more info from our event organiser we will let you
know times and venue. Also – please ensure all children
have a towel and suitable swim wear for the next 3-4
weeks.
PALS Selected senior students will be participating in a programme that develops leadership through physical activity. This week we kick off the programme with a visit to Pettigrew Arena. Students will then
come back to school and lead various activities that support what they learnt.
Gardener / Lawnmower / Caretaker / Cleaners A special mention to our two wonderful caretakers and cleaners who did a massive job over the summer cleaning classrooms and ensuring we came back to a tidy school. You may not be aware but we built some shelves in the sports shed to ensure our sports gear is
safely packed away and tidy.
School Wide Goal Thank you to the many parents who turned up last week to meet the teachers and get a feeling of what they will do with children in the classroom this year. We encourage you to email teachers to set up meetings. I ask that you respect cell phone use and if you have been given teacher‘s numbers,
that you contact them during the week at appropriate times. Writing is a major focus this year with our goal being ―85% at or above the National Standards.‖ We will provide you with some ways via the newsletter and homework letters in which you can help at home with
writing. As a staff we have 10 actions laid out that will motivate, stimulate and foster a love for writing in our school. Please ask at the office for this plan so that you are aware of what we are doing.
Thanks—Sean Moore
Assembly this week—House Leaders (2:20pm)
HOUSE LEADERS
Congratulations to our leaders. On Thursday last week the leaders for the year were selected. We
like to encourage leadership and instilling enthusiasm and empowering others to take up
responsibilities, it‘s not about doing it all the time yourself.
We will have a short assembly on Friday to acknowledge this achievement and present their
badges.
