Updated on: 24/Mar/09 SPORTS PROGRAM DESCRIPTION TENNIS ACADEMY ECUADOR BRIEF PROGRAM DESCRIPTION Tennis is one of the many sports practiced in Ecuador, which requires intelligence, thought and fitness. The Tennis Academy is a place where participants can improve their technical and physical tennis skills as well as learning the rules of the game through a program that includes various recreational methods applied by a group of qualified teachers. This is a great way to learn the sport while you are part of the daily life of the Ecuadorian culture. The tennis academy is at a well-recognized Tennis Club in Quito. The facilities of the Tennis Club include synthetic and clay tennis courts, swimming pool, meeting rooms, game rooms, restaurant, jacuzzi, gym and more. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS *Enjoy living in the capital city of Ecuador. This beautiful city will take you back through 500 years of history, cultural sites and places you will never forget. Quito has colonial churches, structures and historical sites of hundred of years such as La Iglesia de San Francisco, La Plaza de la Independencia, the mighty Basilica and more. * You can’t miss the Teleferico, this is a sky tram that takes passengers up the flanks of the Pichincha Volcano to the top of Cruz Loma. The view form here is something spectacular. * Adjacent to the Old City in Quito, El Panecillo is a large hill on top of which a large statute of the Virgin of Quito sits and is visible from miles around. From the top there are marvellous views of the whole city and the volcanoes. * Just outside of Quito is where measurements were first made that proved the shape of the Earth is in fact an oblate spheroid. Commemorating this, there is a large monument that straddles the equator called Mitad del Mundo- you cant miss stepping on both the northern and southern hemispheres. *Take a weekend tour to and hike the Cotopaxi volcano. The Cotopaxi National Park is located in the “Avenue of the Volcanoes” a breathtaking place. Hike to the glaciers and enjoy the view!

SERVICES TO. IN CASE OF RESCUE CENTERS OR ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS INCLUDE THE TYPE OF ANIMALS AND ENVIRONMENT IT WORKS WITH. The tennis club works with children from ages 8-18 and with adults. The majority of its clients are medium to high-income kids and families. Usually during the morning they have corporate clients and elite athletes and in the afternoons teenagers attend classes after school. The trainers held one on one lessons and also group lessons as part of the core training. The club also has a physical fitness trainer and a doctor on site at all times. They develop custom made programs for any elite players that want to train in Quito.

2. SERVICES THAT THE ORGANIZATION/INSTITUTION PROVIDES (DESCRIPTION) The club is well known and respected in Quito. The facilities include --- Tennis courts (synthetic and clay), swimming pool, meeting rooms, game rooms, restaurant, Jacuzzi, gym, etc. They have professional coaches working year round (except room December 15th until January 10th.). The Tennis Club focuses on teaching children and adults about the sport and ways to improve their skills.

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION 3. How many volunteers can the Project employ monthly? The Tennis Academy can receive as many participants that are interested in learning the sport as long as there is advanced notice of participation. 4. Has the organization received volunteers in the past? The Tennis Academy constantly receives students who want to learn the sport. 5. If it has received volunteers in the past, please write since what month and year: They constantly receive participants. 6. Are there any special features to which the volunteers have to pay attention to when

working at this project? (Religion, illnesses, extra-vaccination, etc) No 7. Are there any requirements to attend this program? No tennis experience is necessary, you will learn based on your skills. 8. The project receives volunteers all year round? No, it closes for holidays. 9. Please specify holidays or other dates when the project closes and can not receive

volunteers: December 15- January 10 10. Is there a minimum amount of weeks volunteers can work at the project? Two-week minimum. 11. Is there a maximum amount of weeks volunteers can work at the project? No 12. Please give detailed description of tasks and duties of the volunteer: The participants in the tennis academy would receive one on one and group training lessons and also fitness preparation. They would be part of drills and the coach will focus on improving the participant’s performance. The participant will also have the chance to use the club facilities while at their placement. Participants are encouraged to help and/or participate in weekend tournaments and events. 13. Indicate the times and days the volunteer will be working in the week: Tennis students can take one tennis session a day (3 hours each) from 9am to 12pm. There is also the option of two tennis sessions in a day (2.5 hours each session) from 9am to 11:30am

and in the afternoon from 12:30pm to 3pm. All these sessions take place from Monday to Friday.

ACCOMODATIONS AND MEALS 17. Type of Accommodation? Volunteers will be staying at a home stay. All home stays are located in good residential neighborhoods of Quito. Home stays have been selected after an application process to make sure they have everything you need. 18. Are meals included? Breakfast and dinner is included at host families.
