C.A.M.P. (Commission Assisted Mentoring Program)C.A.M.P. is an effective way for CLG historic commissions to maintain their annually required training. The training is sponsored by the Town of Greeneville through/with a matching grant from the Tennessee Historical Commission. Instructors are drawn from preservation specialists from across the nation. Organized by the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions, C.A.M.P. is based upon the NAPC’s four fundamental elements: The legal framework of public preservation, identifying and protecting historic resources, commission role and responsibilities, and public support and outreach. Modeled after summer camp experiences, this entertainingly effective training program fea-tures terrific counselors who help the “campers” improve their preservation skills. C.A.M.P. offers an opportunity for CLG commissioners and staff to receive training required to keep certification; others interested in historic preserva-tion are also encouraged to attend as space allows.

Historic Windows Workshop- A special historic windows workshop will be conducted by Chris Keenan in conjunction with The MCR Group General Contractors. Chris and MCR have completed numerous commercial historic window rehabilitations throughout Tennessee and have conducted historic window workshops across the state. In addition to covering the rehabilitation basics with a working historic window, they will demonstrate and teach a special window gasketing and sealing process that they have successfully perfected for commercial historic window rehabilitations. The class will be applicable to both beginners and preservation professionals. This class will lead into the Historic Window Rehabilitation Classroom Session on Friday Morning. The workshop will be taught both Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.

This year’s conference theme references Greeneville’s most famous resident, Andrew Johnson, 17th President of the United States, and his early career as a tailor in Greeneville. It builds upon the mission of the Tennessee Preservation Trust and its partner organizations, the Tennessee Main Street Program, and the Tennessee Historical Commission. We are also featuring a day-long C.A.M.P. (Commission Assisted Mentoring Program) conducted by the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions to allow an opportunity for required Certified Local Government training and certification. Our host town, Greeneville, is generously providing a matching grant with the Tennessee Historical Commission to fund the C.A.M.P. Our other host organization, the Greeneville Main Street Program has assisted with the conference organization and planning.

The conference will be held in the historic General Morgan Inn on Greeneville’s historic Main Street with sessions, workshops, leadership luncheon and our annual “Preservation Celebration” and Auction all conducted in their ballrooms. The C.A.M.P. will be conducted directly across the street in the First Presbyterian Church. Numerous special free local tours are included with your conference registration. The General Morgan Inn will be a unique venue for virtually all activities, vendors, registration and entertainment along with our overnight accommodations. Please join us in Historic Downtown Greeneville for another great statewide preservation conference.
