This past week I spenta few days at an awesomechurch planning confer-ence in Orlando, Florida, and then headed to thebeach for a day or two torelax before heading backto Madisonville to work. I personally am a

workaholic and strugglewith relaxing. I pastor the

OAA Worship Center, teach Celebrate Recoveryon Monday nights to helpthose with hurts, habits, and hang-ups get theirlives back on track, I runthe OAA RestorationCenter - Monroe County’sonly homeless shelter -and I also run Full Throt-tle Warriors - a motorcy-cle ministry - and in myspare time I’m a ride cap-tain with the PatriotGuard Riders who escortour fallen veterans to theirfinal resting place, and justthis week I leased anotherbuilding to open the OAAMinistries Thrift store. Whew, I’m tired look-

ing at that list, but God

Moment With

MORGAN

Preacher Morgangave us an example thatwe often try to overlook. In the beginning Godworked six days and com-manded us to rest on theseventh just like He did. Now, I’ll be honest, I reallydon’t think that Godworking those six daysmade Him exhausted, butinstead I think He set theexample for us. Jesus also many times

in the Bible would retreatoff to be by Himself, sometimes to pray andsometimes just for soli-tude. I learned a long time

ago if you need somethingto get done, ask a busyperson, because the per-son doing nothing will stilldo nothing and the busyperson will make a hole inhis or her schedule to addthe task but we must fol-low Jesus’ example and re-treat away to solitude torelax. We are like an ATM

money machine. Oncefilled with money, it worksdispensing cash all daylong to anyone with adebit card who desires totake a swipe. But one daysomeone is going to comeby and swipe his card andno money will come out. Why? The machine isbankrupt. It needs to berefilled with more money. We are exactly like that

ATM machine. We pourout of ourselves to ourfamilies, our jobs, and yes,to God, and just like thatATM we will go bankruptif we don’t take time awayto refuel and refresh. You don’t have to be

like me and sit on a beach

dosing into a comatosestate at the sound of thewaves. There have beenmany days that I havegone to the Island in Pi-geon Forge and sat in therocking chair around thepond just listening to themusic and watching thewater for three to fourhours and that’s free to do.I know some people

love to go to the river inTellico Plains and listen tothe water while otherslove to go fishing or hunt-ing. My point is this, don’t

let yourself get so over-worked, over-stressed, orover-capacitated that yourpersonal ATM goes bust.Take one day a week

and set it aside to honorGod, set aside time awayregularly, and know whenyour beginning to get uglybecause you are over tired. If you don’t have a

home church to go to, youare hereby invited to comehang with me at the OAAWorship Center. We evenhave the Cracker Barrelstyle rocking chairs outfront to sit in and relax be-fore or after service.

Caution with Outdoor Burning The historic 2016 Ten-nessee fall fire seasondrastically brought atten-tion to how wildfires burnour woods, especiallywhen the state is under se-vere drought conditions. While the severity of thedrought has been reducedthis spring, the State FireMarshal’s Office and theDepartment of Agricul-ture’s Division of Forestryremind Tennesseans thatit is still important to re-main cautious with anyoutdoor burning activi-ties. “As residents head out-side to begin sprucing uptheir property, we remindthem to be aware of out-door-burning safety pre-cautions,” said State FireMarshal and Commerceand Insurance Commis-

sioner Julie Mix McPeak.“Fire spreads quickly, ig-niting brush, trees, homes, and belongings. By plan-ning ahead and ensuringthat burnings are con-ducted properly, you canhelp protect your propertyand your loved ones.” If your spring cleaningplans include the burningof limbs, lumber, andother debris, take the fol-lowing precautions tomake sure your outdoorburning is handled safely: Check with your localfire department or munic-ipality for any restrictionsbefore starting an open air, recreational, or outdoorcooking fire. Obtainproper permits, if re-quired. You might not bepermitted to do outdoorburning in some munici-

palities and during someseasons. • In addition to notify-ing your local fire depart-ment, let neighbors knowyour plans to burn. • Closely supervise alloutdoor fires. Make surethe fire is out before leav-ing. • Supervise childrenaround any fire outdoors, including campfires, firepits, chimineas, and out-door fireplaces. • Permitted open fires(such as bonfires or trashfires) need to be at least 50feet from anything thatcan burn. • Permitted recre-ational fires (such ascampfires or fire pits)need to be at least 25 feetaway from anything thatcan burn, including treesand overhangingbranches. Never leave acampfire unattended. Ex-tinguish your fire com-pletely.

• Establish wide controllines down to bare mineralsoil at least five feet widearound burn piles. • Avoid burning onwindy, dry days. Whenconditions are windy ordry, it is easy for openburning to spread out ofcontrol. • Where outdoor burn-ing is allowed, never usegasoline or other flamma-ble or combustible liquids. • When burning, have ahose, bucket of water, orshovel and dirt or sandnearby to extinguish thefire. • In the unfortunateevent that a fire does getout of control, call 911 im-mediately and wait in asafe place for the arrival ofthe local fire department. From October 15through May 15, anyonestarting an open-air firewithin 500 feet of a forest, grassland, or woodlandmust by law secure a burn-ing permit from the Ten-nessee Department of

Agriculture’s Division ofForestry. Permits are notrequired for burning incontainers such as a metalbarrel with a half-inchmesh screen cover. The permits can be ob-tained by calling your localDivision of Forestry officebetween the hours of 8a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondaythru Friday. Permits aregenerally good for 24hours and can be issuedfor weekend burning. Per-mits can also be obtainedonline for small-scaleburning of leaf and brushpiles measuring less than 8feet by 8 feet in area. Theonline system was devel-oped to more efficientlyissue permits to landown-ers conducting small-scaledebris burns, and to pro-vide better access throughthe weekend and eveninghours for landowners. These permits can beobtained on days and incounties where burn per-mits are allowed. Visithttp://BurnSafeTn.org.The website is also a goodsource of information forsafe debris burning prac-tices. Anyone needing toburn within an incorpo-rated city should contactcity authorities about anylocal burning ordinances. Many towns and citieshave their own burningregulations that supersedethe Division of Forestry’sburning permit program. For information onwhat materials may NOTbe burned in Tennessee, please visit the TennesseeDepartment of Environ-ment and Conservation'sOpen Burning Guidelines:https://www.tn.gov/envi-ronment/article/apc-open-burning.
