Wednesday Wonders Summer Series 2021 Race 10

Race 10 marks the half way mark in this summer series with ten more scheduled races to go.

Sailing in her first race this summer was MIDNIGHT MAGIC (Bernadette Moore) who was first

of 36 yachts to cross the start line. There had been some targeted handicap adjustments made

following race nine. The first four across the finish line in that race received a handicap increase

whilst 6 of the last eight to finish received a decrease. The breeze for race 10 was probably

more than what may have been expected from the forecast with a southerly breeze shifting to

the south south west and averaging 13 knots for the afternoon. This was enough to drive all 36

yachts around the 9.4 nautical mile course 13 in good time with the last yacht crossing the finish

line shortly after 1600.

SKULLDUGGERY (Garry McCarten) won Start of the Day for the second time this series with a

perfect start – the 6th perfect start in 8 races. After finishing 31st in race 9, ROLLER COASTER

(Stride/Simpson/Dixon) returned to record her first win of the series ahead of ANDANTE 1

(Keith woodruff) in 2nd place and MYUNA III (Geoffrey Nixon) 3rd. For the 3rd time this summer

ALEX TEAM MACADIE (Jock Macadie) sailed the course in the fastest time sailing the 6 legs 4

seconds faster than ESPRIT (Garry Anderson).

At the half way point of the series ANDANTE 1 moves to the top of the aggregate with a total of

12 points. She is followed by CASSANDRA of MELBOURNE (Bob Reeves) in 2nd place with 14

points with WHITE POINTER 3rd with a total of 15 points. VIXEN 1 (Christine Matheou Fox) and

RAZZLE DAZZLE (Andrew Stopp & Grahame Jones) slip out of the aggregate top ten with HOT

CHIPPS (John Chipp) and ROLLER COASTER returning to the top ten after a short absence.

ROLLER COASTER has sailed 7 of the 8 races

completed so far this series and has 3 top ten finishes

including a 9th a 3rd and now a win. She started from 12th

place, 20 seconds late for her 25 minute handicap.

ROLLER COASTER had move into 6th place on

completion of the first three legs of the race but was still

7 minutes 56 seconds behind the leader. After

completing the last three legs of the race in 37 minutes

21 seconds she was first across the finish line at

15:47:15 – 41 seconds ahead of ANDANTE 1. ROLLER

COASTER moved from 11th in the aggregate to 7th with

a total of 25 points.

ANDANTE 1 has completed 6 of the 8 races held so

far and recorded 4 top ten finishes. With a handicap

of 8 minutes she finished 4th in race 3 which was

around the same course – course 13. ANDANTE 1

started this race from 4th place 27 seconds late for

her 12 minute handicap. She was 3rd at the first

rounding of SYC 4 and after sailing the entire course

in 2:05:56 she crossed the finish line in 2nd place at

15:47:56. After spending the previous two weeks in

the aggregate top ten ANDANTE 1 moves into top

spot with a total of 12 points.

The Cavalier 37, MYUNA III has sailed only 3 races so

far this series and finished 27th in race 3 which was

also around course 13. She started this race from 14th

place 7 seconds late for her 30 minute handicap. She

completed the first 3 legs of the course in 1:10:58 and

rounded SYC 4 in 8th place. It took MYUNA III 37

minutes 2 seconds to complete the last 3 legs of the

course and she crossed the finish line at 15:48:07 –

only 11 seconds behind ANDANTE 1. MYUNA III

moves from 47th to 42nd in the aggregate.

The median start was 8.5 seconds with

SKULLDUGGERY winning Start of the Day with a

perfect start. Congratulations go to WICKED who

finished the race in 33rd place after giving herself an

additional self imposed handicap of 8 minutes 36

seconds. This beats the previous record of 7 minutes 25

seconds set by SECOND NATURE in race 1.

The median elapsed time for the race was 1:49:48.

As already mentioned, ALEX sailed the course in the

fastest time but only 4 seconds faster than ESPRIT.

Two yachts, ANDANTE 1 and BON VIVANT recorded

the same elapsed time of 2:05:56.
