The Crystal Charity Ball’s 10 Best Dressed have
arrived again with heels on, and to celebrate,
we’ve asked this year’s lineup and hall-of-fame
honoree to answer a few personal questions with a
stylish slant.
Little did we know that nearly every lass onboard
would name the Crystal Charity Ball or Tuesday’s 10
Best Dressed fashion show and luncheon the most
style-conscious party in town — OK, so maybe that
question was stacked — and many said their husbands
are the best-dressed men around. Gene Jones was
a shoo-in for best-dressed woman; Elsa Norwood,
Devin Chapman, and Shelle Sills each popped up more
than once as go-to girls for fashion advice; Madison, in
Highland Park Village, has stolen plenty of hearts as a
favorite spot for last-minute gifts; Hermès Birkin bags
incite almost universal lust; and no one — read: no one —
can bypass the second floor or the shoe department
at Neiman Marcus downtown.
So what else did this iconic panel have to say? Read
on to find out.

The one thing I’m not brave enough to wear is anything sleeveless!
For fashion help in a pinch, I can always call Devin Chapman at Neiman Marcus downtown.
Hands down, Doug McCabe is the most skilled hair stylist around. And Kim Rozell does the best makeup.
My favorite local jeweler is Rebecca Collins.
To me, “casual” means comfortable, but chic. And “fancy,” in the most upscale sense, means glittery cocktail attire.
In terms of style and overall primping, makeup needn’t consume too much of my time. But I wouldn’t leave the house without eyeliner and mascara.

One clothing accessory I’ve been coveting for a while but haven’t bought is an oversized ostrich handbag in a fabulous color.
Doors seem to open for me when I put on a big smile.
The one thing I am not brave enough to wear is anything red.
When I walk into Neiman’s downtown, I always make a beeline for the popovers! Just kidding (I wish); I usually head straight to the second floor after a detour through shoes.
For fashion help in a pinch, I can always call my friend Matthew Simon.
The best personal shopper in the area is Devin Chapman at Neiman’s downtown.
Hands down, Libbie McClure at Studio One Ten
is the most skilled hairstylist around.
To me, “casual” means jeans and boots (or shorts in the summer!). And “fancy” means a little black dress and some dangerously high heels.
Diamonds can liven up any ensemble.
The best place to get a last-minute gift is Avant Garden or St. Michael’s Woman’s Exchange - both in HP Village (or my friend Susan Palma’s secret closet!)
The two best-dressed women in town are Muffin Lemak and Deedee Lee. They have completely different styles but always look fabulous! The best-dressed man in town is of course my husband, Dwight, and my friend Niven Morgan runs a really close second.

The one thing I’m not brave enough to wear is a two-piece swimsuit.
When I walk into Neiman’s downtown, I always make a beeline for the shoe department or the Chanel handbag department.
For fashion help in a pinch, I can always call Trinh Cao at Ralph Lauren Highland Park Village or Vicki Newsom at Neiman’s NorthPark.
Hands down, Christi Farris at Jean-Philippe Salon is the most skilled hair stylist around. And Sophia Nguyen at Sophia Nail Salon on Lovers Lane does the best French manicure.
My favorite local jeweler is Bill Noble.
To me, “casual” means black Escada jeans and a great Ralph Lauren cable-knit sweater. And “fancy,” in the most upscale sense, means a beautiful ball gown designed by Michael Faircloth.
A great belt or jewelry can liven up any ensemble.
In terms of style and overall primping, acces-sories needn’t consume too much of my time.
The best-dressed woman in town is Gene Jones. She has such exquisite style and beautiful clothes.
And the best-dressed man in town is my hus-band, Alan White. He wears beautiful business suits, custom-made shirts, and Hermès ties.

SPONSOREDBY:
One clothing item or accessory I’ve been coveting for a while but haven’t bought is: I love vintage jewelry, clothing and accessories. I’m always looking for something stylish and unique to enhance my wardrobe. I love to find shops and boutiques that are off the beaten path. I have discovered rare finds in the least likely places. Doors seem to open for me when I put on a radiant smile, which will not only open most doors but typically will be greeted by a smile on the other side of the door. The one thing I’m not brave enough to wear is thigh-high boots. Not that I’m not brave enough to wear them (ever), I just don’t think that they are appropriate for me to wear ... in public. When I walk into Neiman’s downtown, I always make a bee-line for my personal shopper. For fashion help in a pinch, I can always call Shelle Sills, vice president and general manager of Neiman Marcus down-town. The best wardrobe consultants or personal shoppers in the area are Gregory Hicks of Neiman Marcus NorthPark, Devin Chapman of Neiman Marcus downtown, Paula Acosta of Barneys New York, and Taft Bakal of Stanley Korshak. Hands down, my daughter-in-law, Maleiah Rogers at Phillip K. Thomas Salon, is the most talented hairstylist around. I love Michael Flores and Jessica Nicole at Michael Flores Salon for color, cut, and style. In my opinion, Jeanna Doyle is one of the best makeup artists in town. In addition to using Mary Kay skin care products daily, I go to Kari Feinstein and Noel Patton at Enlighten at Medical City to keep my skin look-ing younger and more radiant.
My favorite local jeweler is Lawrence Bock of Bachendorf’s Jewelers. Its founder, Harry Bock, and Mary Kay Ash started their friendship and business relationship in the late
1960s. Lawrence, the current president of Bachendorf’s, is one of my dearest friends. I also love Sue Gragg of Sue Gragg Precious Jewels and consider her a close friend, as well.
To me, “casual” depends on the location and time of year. Casual in Baja, Mexico, is a swimsuit and coverup, while in Aspen it usually means blue jeans with some type of fun top or jacket. I think that in Dallas, casual can be anything from a simple dress to capris, jeans or slacks worn with any com-bination of tops, sweaters, and/or jackets. I always like to finish a casual look with fabulous accessories.
A great attitude, along with true friends, can liven up any ensemble.
If I don’t know many people at a gala or seated dinner, a comfortable icebreaker is travel. It’s the best thing to talk about with anyone and a great way to learn about other people’s life experiences. But I cringe when someone brings up money. The best place to find a tasteful, last-minute gift is Neiman Marcus. I have literally called at closing time and still had a wonderful, wrapped gift ready to pick up in under 10 min-utes. I also like Casa Di Lino on Oak Lawn, and Madison in Highland Park Village. The best-dressed woman in town is every woman who car-ries herself with confidence, dignity and love. She treats those around her with respect and kindness and is empow-ered by her own life’s choices. I believe that my husband’s late mother, Mary Kay Ash, was one of the most beautiful and stylish women because she lived by the Golden Rule every day and encouraged women to be the best that they could be.
The best-dressed man in town is my husband, Richard, who is my world. He wears his brilliance, honesty, and compas-sion as a true gentleman.

Doors seem to open for me when I put on the color red. The one thing I’m not brave enough to wear is a loud print.
My favorite local jeweler is David Blank at the Diamond Doctor. The tackiest apparel I’ve seen this season (or this year) is skimpy clothing on bodies that shouldn’t be wearing skimpy clothing! To me, “casual” means simple, easy and fun.And “fancy,” in the most upscale sense, means get out your jewelry!
Fabulous shoes can liven up any ensemble.
In terms of style and overall primping, makeup needn’t consume too much of my time. But I wouldn’t leave the house without kissing my kids goodbye. If I don’t know many people at a gala or seated dinner, a comfortable icebreaker is to ask about their children and their family. But I cringe when someone brings up the state of the economy! I wouldn’t leave the house without a charged iPhone!
If I don’t know many people at a gala or seated dinner, a comfortable icebreaker is the score of the Cowboys game!
But I cringe when someone brings up gossip.
The best-dressed woman in town is always my mother; she is so poised and perfect, even in her hard hat!
Doors seem to open for me when I put on an upbeat attitude.
The one thing I’m not brave enough to wear is fishnet hose.
For fashion help in a pinch, I can always call my mother.
The best wardrobe consultant or personal shopper in the area is Delisa.
Hands down, Paul Neinast is the most skilled hairstylist around. And Kim Rozell does the best makeup.
My favorite local jeweler is Sue Gragg, by far.
The tackiest apparel I’ve seen this season (or this year) is overemphasized shoulder pads.
To me, “casual” means my workout clothes.
Accessories and jewelry can liven up any ensemble.
If I don’t know many people at a gala or seated dinner, a comfortable icebreaker is talking about my son, Turner. But I cringe when some-one brings up the recession.
The best place to find a tasteful, last-minute gift is St. Michael’s Woman’s Exchange or Madison.
The best-dressed woman in town is my mother.
And the best-dressed man in town is my father.
