    Steps to connect the Samsung Note4 with TEMS:

    Prerequisites The Samsung Note4 Device must have engineering build firmware installed and additionally rooting of

    the device. The firmware installation is shown below. This document is an instruction how to TEMSify

    Samsung Galaxy Note4 SM-N910T UEs. Android Lollipop is not supported.

    Engineering Firmware Installation 1 On the mobile device, go to Settings -> General -> About phone and look in Build

    number. Ensure that the device contains a build version of KTU84P.N91-

    TUVU1ANK4_IPSec. If this is does you may skip to rooting the UE. If it does not continue

    with these firmware installation steps.

    2 Download the firmware internal to T-Mobile from the following folder: DOWNLOAD (This is

    a 1.8GB File)

    a. Extract the file. Password is note4ipsecoff

    3 Shut down the phone if it is currently on. Press and hold the Volume Down key and Home

    key while pressing the Power button on the phone. This should present a warning screen

    like the one below:

    4 Press the volume up button. A new screen with the text Downloading should appear.

    5 Connect the phone(s) to the PC using USB cable(s) and start the NK4_IPSecOFF.exe

    a. This will start a one click flash Odin application for the Note4 device

    b. Up to 8 phones may be possible to be run at the same time

    6 In Odin3 v3.09.3.exe:

    a. Press the Start button. When the flash operation has completed the phone will reboot.

    7 The reboot is finished when the phone is ready to accept some kind of user input.

    8 If the device did not reboot successfully, perform the following steps:

    a. Power down the phone.

    b. Boot the phone in Android system recovery mode by simultaneously pressing and

    holding Volume Up, Home and Power buttons. Phone starts up and when some blue

    text is displayed, release the buttons.

    c. In the Android system recovery menu (see image below) perform the following steps:

    i. Navigate to wipe data/factory reset and press the power button. A warning

    screen will be presented.

    ii. Navigate to Yes delete all user data and press the power button.

    iii. Navigate to reboot system now and press the power button. The phone

    should now start up successfully.

    Configure the device with required settings: 1 If not already enabled, enable developer options menu and USB debugging by:

    a. Go to Settings -> General -> About phone

    b. Click on Build number until developer mode is enabled (click ~7 times)

    2 If not already enabled, enable USB debugging by

    a. Go to Settings -> General -> Developer options and enable USB debugging

    3 Disable Verify apps:

    a. Go to Settings -> General -> Security

    b. Uncheck Verify apps

    4 Disable Collect Diagnostics:

    a. Go to Settings -> General -> Backup and reset-> Collect diagnostics

    b. Uncheck Allow Diagnostics

    Root the device:

    1 Download and install the latest Samsung device drivers to the PC from Samsung if not already installed: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SM-N910TZKETMB

    2 Enable Developer Mode a. Go to Settings -> General -> About Phone/Device

    Scroll down to "Build number" and touch 7 times, message "Developer enabled" will appear

    b. Go back to Settings -> General -> Developer Options and enable "USB Debugging" c. Go to Settings -> General -> Security and enable "Unknown sources" installation d. Go to Settings -> General -> Security and disable "Verify apps" (uncheck)

    3 Place the UE (N910T) into "Download Mode" a. Power off Device b. Restart pressing the Power+Home+Volume down button until the Download Mode is

    entered(8-10 s) c. Press the "Volume Up" key to verify you want to go into "Download Mode"

    4 Download and unzip the root files from: DOWNLOAD ROOT 5 The following files will be present:

    6 Run the "Odin3-v3.07.exe" file to open the Odin Window 7 Connect the Samsung Note4 (N910T) device to the USB cable already in "Download Mode".

    8 It should show in the Odin menu as a "Com" device 9 Select the "PDA" option on the Odin window and choose the "CF-Auto-Root-trltetmo-

    trltetmo-smn910t.tar.md5" file 10 Up to 8 devices may be done at a time. This typically only takes 30 seconds though. 11 Press the "Start" button on the Odin window

    12 Go to the device -> Applications and open the SuperSU app

    13 If SuperSU is not in the application list, you can download from the PlayStore

    14 Complete the rooting in the application by allowing it to install binaries and disable Samsung

    Knox. User Normal if SuperSU asks for which type of recovery to utilize.

    15 Suggested SuperSU Settings

    a. Enable Superuser (Checked)

    b. Re-authentication (Un-Checked)

    c. Default Access [Grant]

    d. Enable su during boot (Checked)

    e. Trust system user (Checked)

    Other Useful Settings Although not required, there are some useful applications and settings that may improve the general

    performance and usability of the Samsung Note4 device for TEMS and potential future TEMS Pocket

    installation. There are the recommend apps to install from the Google Play Store.

    1. AnyCut This is a simple application to create shortcuts on the screen for menus and activities

    2. ES File Explorer This application is a file browser as well as a decent FTP program for

    verification of FTP Servers.

    a. Enable Root Browser Settings Menu -> Tools -> Root Explorer On

    b. Show Hidden Files Settings Menu -> Tools -> Show hidden files On

    c. Add T-Mobile FTP Servers Settings Menu -> FTP -> New

    3. APN Update The T-Mobile FTP servers currently do not support IPv6 protocol. Due to this, the

    default APN can not be used for data. You will need to create a new APN in the Note4 and

    select it for use.

    a. Go to Settings -> More networks -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names

    b. Click the + at the top right

    c. APN Settings (Set only the listed, the rest are blank/default)

    i. Name = TMO Testing IPv4

    ii. APN = fast.t-mobile.com

    iii. MMSC = http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc

    iv. MCC = 310

    v. MNC = 260

    vi. Authentication Type = None

    vii. APN Type = default,mms,supl

    viii. APN protocol = IPv4/IPv6

    4. Lookout Suggested to complete disable lookout application. Essentially acts as a firewall

    application that can stop TEMS processes or connectivity.

    a. Select the application in the menu and drag to disable. Agree to disable or uninstall

    application.

    Temsify the device: 1 Download the TEMS ODM Installer for the Note4 in the following folder: DOWNLOAD

    2 Connect only one device to the PC

    3 Accept in the device (a popup) to connect ADB to the PC. This will appear the first time.

    Prior to this appearing on the device and the user accepting, the installer will not be able to

    recognize the device.

    4 Run the latest version of the installer and follow instructions. Version

    TEMS_ODM_Note4_1.5.0.39.exe at time of documentation

    5 The device reboots after successful Temsification but may also reboot in the middle of the

    process. The process takes a few minutes. If for some reason nothing happens check the

    screen on the device and accept the device request.

    6 If the error in the picture below happens, start again from 3a. At repeated errors, contact

    Ascom global help desk (See below).

    Register ODM: 1 The device must be registered in order to function. In order to register, follow these steps.

    2 Upon restart, the message window of the device (Top Swipe down) should show an

    OnDeviceServer application running. It will say License problem if it not registered.

    3 The ODM only tries to register at device startup. Ensure that there is a data connection

    available on the device at startup (WiFi or Network) to make sure it has tried to hit the

    server.

    4 Submit an email in the following formats exactly from an @T-Mobile.com Email address.

    Verify Temsification Registration: 1 Once notified by the Ascom GHD on the ticket completion, restart the device.

    2 On the device, go to Home -> Apps and look up TEMS Firmware Version app.

    a. Start the TEMS Firmware Version app.

    3 If it does not exist of if the app does not display the firmware version number, please repeat

    step 3 Temsify the device above.

    4 If the verification fails in spite of one repetition, please contact TEMS Support

    Install TEMS 16.3.1 TEMS 16.3.1 installation file can be downloaded from the Ascom GLS: DOWNLOAD You must have

    a valid GLS Login. Please contact T-Mobile POC or [email protected] for registration

    process.

    Please ensure that you use TEMS 16.3.1 or above licenses to test this software

    Setup the license pools within the TEMS License Control Manager on the PC through the following

    ODM Update:

    To ensure you have the best performance in TEMS with the device, ensure you perform ODM

    Updates, by accessing Ascom/TEMS Products/Utilities from the Start Menu

    Steps to connect the Note 4 for Voice Call Testing: 1. The device must be set in MTP+ADB mode and tethered (*#0808#) 2. Make sure the DPL Log is activated. In TEMS Investigation, right-click the device in the Navigator

    and select Properties. In the tree view, select Generic & CDMA. Scroll down to the bottom of the list of available logs and toggle the state of log 0x11EB On.

    3. For proper DPL log activation you MUST put the device in Flight mode manually before pressing activate in TEMS Investigation. After the device has connected you turn off Flight mode on the handset.

    The device should be detected by TEMS as Samsung SM-N910T

    Steps to connect the Note 4 for Data/CSFB Call Testing without the ODM software

    (No VoLTE): 1. Put the device in MTP+ADB mode and tethered (*#0808#)

    2. It should now detect in TI. Activate the device in TI

    3. Ensure that the network connect activity in the script is set as below:

    Steps to connect the Note 4 for Voice Call & Data Testing (No Tethering): 1. The device must be set in DM+Modem+ADB mode (*#0808#) 2. Make sure the DPL Log is activated. In TEMS Investigation, right-click the device in the Navigator

    and select Properties. In the tree view, select Generic & CDMA. Scroll down to the bottom of the list of available logs and toggle the state of log 0x11EB On.

    4. Ensure you see the OnDeviceFTPService running (top drop message window) on the device for data testing. VoLTE testing does not require it.

    5. Scripts need to be modified for the FTP Download & FTP Upload to use the Ue rather than the PC setting.

    The device should be detected by TEMS as Samsung SM-N910T
