buildings are calculated to meet British Safety

Standards, Wind Loading BS6399 and General

Snow Loading BS6399, the same as for

permanent buildings - and some have been

in use for more than 25 years.

Acquired by the DX Group in 2012, the DX Freight operationhas seen rapid national expansion, controlled from its “Hub” at Willenhall in the West Midlands. However, thedevelopment of DX’s logistics network, and the advent ofdouble decker lorries caused DX Freight a problem. Theirexisting facilities just couldn’t accommodate the largerlorries making loading and unloading impossible. Loadinghad to take place in the open air, meaning there was a riskof stock damage in bad weather.

Spaciotempo’s solution was to attach a loading canopy, with an increased eave and apex height, to DX’s existingbuildings. As a result, lorries can load and unload in allweathers and keep the stock safe and dry.

North Kent Distribution

As a member of Pallet Track in the South East, North KentDistribution needed to accommodate fully loaded 40fttrailers arriving at their depot through the night, before theycould be distributed onto rigid lorries for next day deliveryto customers.

Additionally, pallets that had been collected during the dayand stored in the warehouse needed to be loaded onto the40ft trailers for the long journey north.

MD Gary Knight, explainsthe problem; “Unfavourable weather meant therisk of damaged product and late deliveries. Our newloading canopy acts like a big umbrella for all our loadingand unloading operations, enabling these works to go aheadin time, whatever the weather or time of day.”

Y Pallet-Track, approached Spaciotempo to help improvetheir overnight pallet distribution operations at theirWolverhampton Central Hub Facility. Unable to risk a delayto loading operations, or stock damage from exposure tobad weather, Spaciotempo installed three loadingcanopies. They were on a 6m eave ranging in size from25m to 19m in length.

Spaciotempo’s latest warehousing solution for Kuehne &Nagel was designed specifically to meet these needs.

Dan Barker, Area Sales Manager for Spaciotempo explains,“Five warehouses, ranging from 15 x 20m to 30 x 20, all on a6m eave were linked not only to each other, but to the site’sexisting warehouse. Tunnels were also used to link existingand new warehouses and to create loading canopies whererequired. The end result, over 2000m2 of extra warehousingspace. And because the customer opted to hire the space,they have even more flexibility in the long term!”
