IMPORTANT UPDATE

In light of revised guidance from CDC, and with the

understanding that Brevard County is currently an area of high

transmission, Temple Israel of Brevard requires that all

individuals entering our facility (i.e., INDOORS) wear a mask.

Temple Israel of Brevard recommends that people maintain social

distancing outside while unmasked.

PARASHAT

Chol HaMo-eid Sukkot

סכת המעד חול Intermediate Days of Sukkot

Moses said to the Eternal, "See, You say to me, 'Lead this people forward,' but You have not made known to

me whom You will send with me. Further, You have said, 'I have singled you out by name, and you have, indeed,

gained My favor.'"- Exodus 33:12

On the Shabbat during Sukkot, we are reminded of the age-old desire to know God. Moses implores God to let

him see God. While God will not allow Moses to see God’s face, God tells Moses, “I will make My goodness pass before you…” Perhaps we experience the divine

presence through the goodness we create in the world. The Torah then sets forth the thirteen attributes of God, among them that God is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger and abounding in kindness. By emulating these very attributes, we create the goodness which allows us

to know God.

7:00 PM Shemini Azeret/Simchat Torah Yizkor

A little insight into this holiday courtesy of Rabbi Pat:

Historically, Sh’mini Atzeret and Simchat Torah were two separate holidays (a day of reflection after the end of Sukkot and

a celebration of Torah the following day). However, in Israel and in Reform congregations, which generally

observe one day of holidays rather than two, Sh’mini Atzeret is observed concurrently with Simchat Torah. Yet, on Sh’mini

Atzeret we are to remember our loved ones as one of the four Yizkor services we have throughout the year, on Yom Kippur,

Sukkot, Pesach and Shavuot. This year we will be having a Yizkor service on Monday night, September 27 at 7 pm, which will conclude our Fall Holy Days

Services.

Sisterhood

We hope you all had a Happy New Year and easy fast on Yom Kippur. Our bagel and cookie break the fast worked well for those

who were in the synagogue at the end of the day.

Help is needed to organize Onegs. At this time, we have been doing abbreviated Onegs so the preparation has been scaled down. Please consider volunteering to help. We will give you all the information you need. Contact Sue Glazier at [email protected] or 321-480-

5815 to volunteer. THANK YOU!

We still need volunteers to help with the Gift Shop so please contact Joy at 321-253-8579 or Bobbi Rodriguez at 321-795-7941 if you can

help.

If you are interested in the position of Corresponding/Recording Secretary or Membership Chairman, please call Joy or Bobbi.

All Temple members are welcome to attend our Sisterhood Book

Club, and to suggest books. We meet monthly via Zoom, usually on the third Thursday at 7 pm. October’s selection is The Coffee Trader by David Liss. If you are new to the book club, contact Holly Del Valle

at [email protected] so that we can send you the Zoom link.
